Interest check for a Pathfinder Forgotten Realms campaign.

Recruitment

Well I have recently been reading through some of my old Forgotten Realms novels and I would love to run a campaign based off the swords coast area. This is assuming there is enough interest anyway.

Character creation would be something like this. If we were to do this it would start at level 3, no summoners or guns, 20 point buy, and any race up to 15 rp. There would be no 3rd party products allowed.

As far the actual campaign goes it would kind of depend on the players interests and goals. I like to run very sandbox style games. That being said, there will most certainly be a main plot, however I like letting the players effect whats happening in any which way they want (alignment allowing).

Given all this info, what say you community?

Tentative interest... Although I would ask how much the no 3rd party products is set in stone... Martials do need some love after all and psionics does have it's place in the realms.

If someone wanted to do psionics I would 've willing to look it over. However I remember 3.5 psionics was TERRIBLY unbalanced. If anything I would most likely use the newest playtest material for psionics.

As far as martials go, I am inclunded to say no to the 3rd party stuff. I would much prefer to stick to piazo material.

Dreamscarred press has solved the balance problem with psionics, you cannot spend more then your level in power point augmentation (except for the Wilder and a few others and that comes at a price akin to a barbarian's rage).

Need a link to Dreamscarred psionics?

I am probably interested. Which era is this set in?

Not quite sure on the era. Again this would be a consensus among the players. From there I'll develop a campaign.

And yeah, if you could post a link to the dreamscarred psionics that would be great.

There you go.

Before the time of troubles (maybe even during) and i'm interested.... just about all Realms story telling after that has been garbage.

To be honest, I've only had exposure to the Forgotten Realms through the various CRPGs set in them--Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Pool of Radiance.

I'm interested in playing in the setting, certainly.

I was thinking of doing it right before the time of troubles. I do enjoy the story of the whole event.

Something where water based environments are enough of a thing that chars good in such become viable would be nice.

I would be interested.

@ nohwear It will definitely be along the swords coast region so sailing will be a major form of transportation.

Wow. I obviously have a dog in this fight as a Realms author, but this is quite a bold statement given that the first Time of Troubles novel was...the fifth Forgotten Realms novel published. At a guess I'd say less than 5 percent of all Realmslore and gaming material antedates the Time of Troubles.

But, speaking to the actual thread at large, I'd be very interested in a Realms campaign using Pathfinder rules, though I must admit if psionics and much else in the way of third party material comes into play it's probably not for me.

I hope much fun is had whatever happens!

Well, that means we have quite a bit of room for adventures! :)

@ Christopher

I think for psionics we will just use the recent playtest paizo put out. I'm not a fan of using 3rd party stuff.

but yeah its looking like this may be doable so I will post a actual recruitment thread later and post the link here. If you would like, feel free to post submissions here early for consideration. Keep in mind though that I like
players to have a balenced party. The goal is to bring something to the table that they need. I will be accepting 5 more players as I have one spot reserved.

If your talking novels.. I don't read the novels (outside Salvatore and even his stuff has been low grade lately), i'm talking games setting books. After the Forgotten Realms setting book of 2001 the Forgotten realms wide story went to crap.... sensationalist non-sense (must have giant changes to stay relevant and edgy).

Before and during the Time of Troubles... sounds awesome GM.. many possibilities abound.

I wouldn't called the Occult psionics... Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Super interested. Anything pre-4E is fine with me, from 1357 DR at the start of the 1E Old Grey Box to the end of the 3E era in 1375, I'm good with anytime in there. I do sincerely hope the atrocity known as the Spellplauge will never occur in your version of FR. ;)

My rough initial character idea is a NG Moon Elf Wizard who grew up on Evermeet but has spent his last 5 years living in Waterdeep desiring to study various forms of magic, including hopefully from Khelben Blackstaff Arunsun himself. He is friendly with Dandelus Ruell of the Old Xoblob Shop and is a frequent customer there. He even occasionally visits the Hidden Blade, tavern of Elaith "the Serpent" Craulnober, to hear of the current clack of back home in Evermeet.

How would we be doing HP?

It's max first level then roll. Anything below average is rerolled

Alright then.

HP Gain 1: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
HP Gain 1 Reroll: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
HP Gain 1 Reroll Again: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 Yay!

HP Gain 2: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 I'll take it!

Time to get my swashbuckler fleshed out.

I've had an idea for a barkeep drawn into a game of adventure and intrigue for a long time and would love to play him in a Sword Coast game. I need to dust off my copy of Volo's Guide to Waterdeep and get some inspiration!

He will be an alchemist/brawler, think it fits the concept perfectly!

Huge fan of the real here...so of course interested.

First game I ever played was FR. I would love to revive my Aasimar sorcerer I was playing at the time.

I would love to join you, I dont know if your full or what but let me know im flexable on character creation and can play almost any role.

unfortionatly I dont know anything about the forgotten realms series but I m willing to give it a try! =)

Silver Crusade

So Zomblishan do you think you have enough interest and information? If not your probably better giving a bit of a guide and a timeframe..

Grand Lodge

I am open to whatever era....whatever you want, I'll play.

Oh, traits...2 I assume?

I will have more info up tomorrow. I have started planning and I will close recruitment in one week.

as for traits you can have 2 with a 3rd if you take a drawback. that being said drawbacks should be role played.

I will be accepting a total of 6 players. Two spots are filled by previous players from old campaigns. I will have them post here with their character concepts Within the next couple days.

And the era will be just before the time of troubles.

Any news on the new recruitment thread?

I am sorry for the late post on the info. I will try to have it up tonight. I travel for a living and it makes it difficult to get lots of info up as i am posting through my phone. Once it is up however, I can post most likely 2 to 3 times per day.

As of right now we are going to be playing as a crew of a pirate hunting ship that recently came out of waterdeep. This will be 1 year before the time of troubles.

As of now, If you wish to play a specific role such as captain, first mate, navigator, or such that would 've very helpful. That way I know what I have to make in the way of npcs.

I think that a Shark Shaman would make for an interesting master of discipline.

Well it is common for various pirate ships and hunters of said pirates to have a caster on bored for helping with weather, navigation, and ship battles.

My first experience with D&D was in the Old Forgotten Realms and would love to play in it again. Though my experience was after the Time of Troubles in 2nd ED.

GM can we use psionics (the Occult playtest is not psionics, it is victorian spiritualism)?

I really do not want to use third party material sorry. The playtest can very easily be reflavored to fit psionic classes. I understand if this is a deal breaker for you however it is just how I feel.

But yeah feel free to roll up a character traywets. Any knowledge of forgotten realms will definitely be appreciated And I feel that it will make the experience better the more people know about the setting.

Grand Lodge

im thinking of making a slayer...unsure race....

Here is my submission Robert Macintyre. I see him as first mate maybe.

I think I'm going to bow out of this one. Here's hoping the rest of you have a good time!

Hmm, how sea-bound will this campaign be?

Silver Crusade

interested! thinking ranger...

It will definitely be a solid mix of land and sea adventure.

DM

The grenadier alchemist arcehtype give proficiency with a martial weapon, I could be proficient with bows but taht somewhat kill the fluff of the character I'm foreseeing, can I take instead rapid reload(crossbow)?

I mean, replacing the martial proficiency feat for the rapid reload one. Sorry, no native speaker.

@elians

Yeah that seems reasonable since crossbow combat needs some love.

Crunch complete, any special consideration to take into account at the time of making the background/personality/goals?

@ Evans

If you could flesh out the character with where you are from, why you became a pirate hunter, and what position you want to hold on the ship, that would be great. As of right now one of my players from a previous campaign who will be joining is playing a psychic And will most likely work in some compacity as a navigator.

Done.
