All right, gang! We all know things have been quite different here in Round 1 of this year's RPG Superstar Contest. As the announcement came out for what the contestants were to submit, many felt the collective groan as hundreds, if not thousands, of wondrous item ideas scattered into the wind.
But let's not have those ideas fly away unshared! Please feel free to share the wondrous item idea you were GOING to submit!
Here's the deal: (Please please, pretty please read these rules!)
1. Please only post your wondrous item. JUST YOUR WONDROUS ITEM!: Do not post ANYTHING that will allude to what you submitted for this year's contest! For Example: "I was going to submit this as a wondrous item, but I made it a Sword instead!"
2. Please feel free to discuss and critique: But Do not post ANYTHING that will allude to what you submitted for this year's contest! For Example: "I had that same idea, but I made it Armor instead!"
3. Participation is purely optional. Just have fun!: But DO NOT POST ANYTHING that will allude to what you submitted for this year's contest!
4. Do not get yourself disqualified by posting ANYTHING that will allude to what you submitted for this year's contest!
Anyway, without further ado. Here's what I WOULD have submitted. And I'm SO GLAD I didn't.
Prismatic Sweets
Aura moderate transmutation and abjuration; CL 7th
Slot none; Price 9,000 gp Weight ¼ lb.
Description
These seven tart, tasty candies are housed in a rune-embroidered, palm-sized burlap pouch. Each individual candy boldly shimmers with its own color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Although they are different colors, all seven sweets bear the same tangy punch of lemon and tangerine flavors.
A creature removes a sweet from its pouch and consumes it using the same rules as drinking a potion. Alternatively, a creature may spend a full-round action to consume up to five sweets at one time. Each sweet consumed provides DR 1/-, which stacks only with DR provided by other prismatic sweets from the same pouch. Additionally, the red sweet provides the consumer with fire resist 5; the yellow sweet bestows lightning resist 5; the blue sweet applies cold resist 5, and the purple sweet adds acid resist 5. (For example, consuming the red and green sweets will give a creature DR 2/- and fire resist 5.) All of these effects last for ten minutes, starting when the first sweet is consumed. If, during this time, a sweet from a different pouch is eaten, all effects from the first pouch of candies immediately end.
A pouch of prismatic sweets can be divided among any number of creatures. If a single creature consumes four or more sweets within a ten minute period, he becomes sickened for 1d2 hours after the effects of the sweets wear off.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, stoneskin, protection from energy; Cost 4,500 gp

Yes, I was totally going to submit what my counsel group repeatedly referred to as, "Magic Skittles". I was coming up with a new idea just as the announcement was made to submit a magic item instead. So you can imagine how grateful I was for that.

JJ Jordan |

I would like some version of these magic skittles. Their primary competitor would be potions of resist/protection from energy which seem much more effective from a cost perspective. Granted, the effects of the skittles last much longer than potions.
The potions, however, would be about a tenth the price to cover all of one's short-term resistance needs. I think the stoneskin/DR aspect is increasing the price quite a bit. The sweets currently don't include a sonic resistance.
Lightning = electricity in the paizoverse.
If a GM included these in a treasure horde, these would be neat to have.
If I put my own spin on it, I would:
- drop the DR to drop the price
- increase the number of uses
- perhaps randomizing the resistance acquired; flavored as just grabbing a handful of sweets and popping them in???
- perhaps more rare random candies in there that do things like enlarge or reduce person???
- my ideas are quickly turning into some weird Bag of Trick Candies so I will stop now

I had a fun core idea but it never made it to a draft because I was waiting to see if there were any curve balls. I would have guessed a 200 word limit curve not a no wondrous item curve.
Trapper Belt- Mustalid(I'm prolly mispelling it in this post) Belt - Skunk's belt
description would have included an intact number of tails.
Skunk version-
-Immune to skinking cloud
-+4 on fort saves vs nauseated/sickened condition
-10ft burrow speed
-3/day stinking cloud
Mustalid Belt (a surprising number of decent animals are Mustalids.)
Much happier with what I submitted though I stand by this would have been original and interesting

I had only managed a vague musing about an item based on the "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" monkeys, perhaps as a variation on figurines of wondrous power or some such.
Three Wise Monkeys
The following amulets may be worn individually, or in any combination of them strung along the same necklace. They are not active when the neck slot is occupied by any magical item that is not a wise monkey.
--------------------
Mizaru (See No Evil)
Aura moderate abjuration; CL 5th
Slot neck; Price 15,000 gp; Weight —
DESCRIPTION
Mizaru appears as a stone carved monkey, with his hands held to cover his eyes. While wearing Mizaru, its wearer is always treated as averting their gaze when dealing with gaze attacks from evil creatures, and gains a +8 circumstance bonus on saving throws against visual-based attacks (any attack that a blind creature would be immune to) from evil creatures. These bonuses do not stack with those granted from items such as smoked goggles, nor does the wearer's attacks have the 20% miss chance for concealment nor do they take the penalty to Perception checks from Mizaru that they would from wearing such items.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
Craft Wondrous Item, blindness/deafness; Cost 7,500 gp.
-----------------------
Kikazaru (Hear No Evil)
Aura moderate abjuration; CL 5th
Slot neck; Price 15,000 gp; Weight —
DESCRIPTION
Kikazaru appears as a stone carved monkey, with his hands held to cover his ears. While wearing Kikazaru, its wearer is immune to spells with the language-dependent descriptor, and gains a +8 circumstance bonus on saving throws against spells with the sonic descriptor.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
Craft Wondrous Item, blindness/deafness; Cost 7,500 gp.
----------------------
Iwazaru (Speak No Evil)
Aura faint abjuration; CL 3th
Slot neck; Price 6,000 gp; Weight —
DESCRIPTION
Iwazaru appears as a stone carved monkey, with his hands held to cover his mouth. While wearing Iwazaru and under the effects of a spell in the compulsion sub-school cast by an evil creature, its bearer retains control of their voice, so long as the wearer is aware that they are being compelled. If they are not aware of the compulsion, they will simply remain silent.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
Craft Wondrous Item, silence; Cost 3,000 gp.
That was a fun little challenge!

I'm game to share, if nothing else just so this item can leave my hard drive!
Devouring Creel
Aura strong evocation and necromancy; CL 13th
Slot none; Price 26,000 gp; Weight 4 lbs.
Description
Constructed from twisted rattan and woven reeds, this tattered fishing basket is worn slung over both shoulders. Although quite sturdy, numerous gaps make the creel unsuitable for hauling equipment securely. It can however, carry creatures with surprising ease.
With a successful grapple maneuver, the wearer hoists a creature of at least one size category smaller than himself up over his head and into the creel. The confined creature immediately gains the exhausted condition and is slowly drained of life.
While in the basket the creature is considered grappled. Each round the grapple is maintained, the creature suffers 1 hit point of damage for each Hit Die it has (minimum 1). Lost hit points are transferred to the wearer as temporary hit points that disappear after 10 minutes, or when a new creature is placed into the basket, whichever comes first. A maximum of 60 hit points may be transferred per day. Creatures that die in the basket turn to desiccated bones and unceremoniously spill from the creel.
The wearer suffers no movement penalties for carrying the target, is not himself considered grappled, and automatically maintains the grapple with a free action each round. Use the wearer's CMB or CMD to resolve checks to break or escape the grapple.
Undead creatures held in the basket are considered grappled but suffer no other adverse effects.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, grasping hand, vampiric touch; Cost 13,000 gp
If anyone likes it, please feel free to use it against your PCs. ;)

Prismatic Sweets
Assuming you wanted feedback...
Consumables that offer resistances don't do much for me, although the details surrounding them did make them more interesting. What I really enjoyed was your writing style. There are a couple of places where I think you could have pared down your description, but overall it was an enjoyable read. There are some template errors that need to be addressed as well:
Avoid using special characters like your 1/4 fraction.
Spells in Requirements should be in alpha order.
In short, this would likely get some up votes, but the top 32 would've been safe. :)
Looking forward to seeing what you submitted this year.

Three Wise Monekys...
Clever approach! The see no evil monkey needs to be smoothed out a bit, but I like the overall gist of these. I might have also made all three monkeys in the same necklace, but the monkeys rotate to reveal one at a time. Maybe.
I think you have a good knack for this.

Here was one I was proud of: Forgive any mistakes. I have been working on this one for a year or so but still wasn't finished (no formatting):
Cackle Vest
Aura moderate transmutation and enchantment; CL 9th
Slot body; Price 18,000 gp; Weight -
Description
Created from the hide of Hyenadons (Dire Hyenas), this item is a favorite of gnoll raiders that live along the border of Osirion since gnolls are usually killed on sight in the country. When worn, this dirty vest offers a +1 natural armor bonus to the wearer, and the ability to take the form of a normal Hyena once per day as a move action. This resembles the spell beast shape II, and lasts for up to one hour. This ability can be ended early, but then it cannot be used again for 24 hours. Additionally, once per day as a full round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity, the vest allows the owner to burst out in evil-sounding laughter. Gnolls, Hyenas, and Hyenadons are immune to this effect, but all other intelligent creatures within twenty feet that can hear the wearer must make a DC14 Will save or be afflicted as per the hideous laughter spell for 9 rounds. This is a mind-affecting compulsion, and a sonic effect. This ability can be used in hyena form as well.
Construction Requirements
Craft Wondrous Item, creator must be a gnoll, barkskin, beast shape II, hideous laughter or
Cackle Hex; Cost 9,000 gp.

I was hoping to submit this one for this year, but as it turns out, they not only started it way sooner than I anticipated, but changed the entry criteria. :P This was also supposed to be part of a small set, but I hadn't worked those out yet.
Anyways! Here it is!
Scale Token (trench)
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 7th
Slot none; Price 300 gp Weight 0 lb.
Description
A somewhat failed attempt by kobold shamen to replicate feather tokens for the purposes of expanding warren tunnels, these tokens were are not without their uses. These tokens are made from a single reptilian scale (usually kobold scales) with a string looped through it. When used, the token disintegrates and a 5' x 5' trench digs itself adjacent to the user in the direction specified.
This trench permits creatures of size Small or littler to gain a +1 AC bonus when crouching in it. If laying prone, the creature gains a +2 AC bonus. This bonus stacks with other benefits or penalties associated with crouching or laying prone.
In addition, any creature size Medium or larger takes a -1 penalty to Acrobatics checks, attack rolls and combat maneuver checks made inside that space. The space is also considered difficult terrain for the purposes of moving through it.
The trench will revert back to solid normal ground after 24 hours or filled in with dirt.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, major creation Cost 150 gp

Those three wise monkeys are a fun item(s?), I really like them. Hopefully your submission this year is just as good. :)
Unfortunately, when I submitted I did not fully understand my items 'design space'. Frankly, no one has been able to fully explain them to me, though I think I get it better now than I did. My entry could probably be called a SiaC or a Wondrous Item.

SB:)
I agree about Mizaru, but I whipped these up quickly. Honestly, it would probably be easier to understand and make more sense for the expense if I went with a smaller save bonus against illusion spells rather than gaze attacks stuff that can be had (albeit with some penalties) from a 10 gp mundane item.
I like them as a modular item, partly because that isn't really done outside of Necklace of Fireballs and the like, and partly because adding the costs together would make the item prohibitively expensive and the description too wordy for one item.

I thought we weren't allowed to do that? Aw, screw it. It doesn't matter if I get DQ'ed, my item is hosed anyhow.
