I hope to get in a good post tonight.
Stupid life hogging all my time!
Rhea Stardust
Damn I want to post but I have a date watchin "stardust" tonight!
Rhea Stardust
Can I talk to you guys for a second? I know what your thinking. Dman GM is backing out. But that's not it at all!
I started serpent skull because of my buddy Julian, who has now mysteriously vanished off the Paizo boards. I LOVE all your characters, but I'm having touble with the AP story itself. I thought mabe I could spice it up with some home brew, but here I am bored. Not with what YOU guys are doing, but with my own adventure ideas.
I wonder if you guys would be too put out if I proposed doing something else? I have Iron Gods. I have Reign of Winter. I have the World Wound. We could keep any characters we wish, or recast anyone who really isn't in to their character...
Anyway, let me know your thoughts? Thanks fur understanding folks.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
I'm game for whatever you want, If we do something else I may make Ivar a slayer to pick up some of the rogue skill we lost when we lost Julian.
I'm already in a Iron gods game {with one of Julians other characters) but I'm good if you want to do that, or anything else. Or if you just want to play serpant skull strait, just as it is, I'm good for whatever.
As long as it is pathfinder, no AD&D, I promised :)
Rhea Stardust
Poor Duke. He hasn't posted in your Iron Gods game in a few months yours either. Hope he's not getting beat up by life!
Tusara Khione
Gotta say, I have a lot of respect for you just coming out and saying you have gotten a little bored with the game. Its not an easy thing, and I'm 100% ok with switching to a different AP. Just a note that I'd potentially switch up characters if we switched APs just because I tend to build characters for the style of the AP I'd submit it for. I can keep similar personalities, but I always struggle to keep the mechanical benefits :(
Merelinda Falvian
I'm cool with another AP, as well. In my real-life game I've tried modifying, and the adventures are usually just very well-written and work best with little mods or none at all. As much fun as a sex-loving priestess has been, I think I'll switch it up this time.
Merelinda Falvian
I have Serpent's Skull at home (a friend just gave it to me). I have to say...I found it rather uninspiring, myself. Especially the portions where you're trying to organize forays to the Snake-people kingdom and all that mess.
I believe Tusara's in a Reign of Winter game, and an Iron Gods game I was in just breathed its last, so I'd be down for Iron Gods! :)
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
Once we decide what AP will we discuss what "role" or "character" changes or just kind figure it out as we go? Sorry that makes no sense what so ever. I like Ivar, hard to see him in an AP starting away from the ocean. I try to build characters I like that, at least for the beginning, seem to fit the theme and fill a role in the party. Still just new enough to the PBP that I get attached and then nervous building a different one. Yeah I stress-eat building characters...
Once we figure what AP I'll either put Ivar, with or without changes in it, or a character with similar skill set and mentality, is that OK?
Tusara Khione
Don't worry about what I am and am not in. I'm involved in like, WotR, IG and RoW, but whatever we decide will outstrip where I am in any other AP because we are all active posters so ZOOM ZOOM.
Captain Albrecht
I am fine with switching APs. I like my character but am somewhat disappointed with his effectiveness. I thought Grease would be more useful and I didn't realize how long the casting time is on Enlarge Person.
I am fine with filling a different role if need be or staying an arcane caster. Either way I will probably have another character with an accent because that was fun :).
Rhea Stardust
Awesome! I'm actually relieved everyone is cool with this. Thank you so much...
Bayani Nishou
Not a big deal for me either.
I've got a PbP RoW, Skulls&Shackles, Kingmaker, Curse of the Crimson Throne, and second darkness game in progress. I wouldn't want to duplicate any of those. I've already got some characters worked out for a few other APs, but I'd be happy with IG, WotR, or whatever else we want to use. Even Giantslayer if you have a subscription and expect to be getting the first volume soon.
Rhea Stardust
I would like to do Iron Gods if you guys are up for it. I've been wanting to ever since it came out. I believe I will stay interested in the story line:) Plus, the evil android antagonist is a hottie.
Rhea Stardust
Do we think we have enough players or does anyone want a freshy for our new game from the recruitment boards, or someone you know? We had a few drop outs from this game - Which left us just with you loyal goldies...loyalty forged in the pain of playing a Rhea game, haha!
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
If all five of us are sticking to the new game I'm good with going without fresh meat. since I'm playing in an Iron Gods I will see what everyone else is wants to play and I would try and round out the team...
that doesn't sound right, I'm not saying I would metagame, since I've already started a game with the type of character I wanted to play, I will pick a character that fills a role, Like I said change Ivar to a slayer so we had someone who could do traps, that sort of thing...
Captain Albrecht
Iron Gods sounds good. Without reading the player's guide yet I'm thinking of a hunter, scholar, gentleman druid with great interest in dinosaurs (saurian shaman) with a domain instead of a companion. He would go to investigate the alien stuff because of his scholarly interest and to fund an expedition to wherever dinosaurs live (Mwangi?).
Bayani Nishou
Warpriest of whom, Mere?
I'm going to stick with Bayani as the character but change to some other sort of fighty caster, perhaps a magus or an arcanist.
Tusara Khione
Hmm, not sure what I'll end up playing for Iron Gods. I am already playing a Warpriest, and kinda feel like playing a sort of caster, like one of a Magus/Druid/Arcanist/Sorcerer/Wizard/Alchemist.
I'll prolly see what everyone else will pick before finalising what I'll play.
Captain Albrecht
I guess I should ask about summoning since that will be about half of what my character is doing past 4 or 5 and I understand it is considered one of the most something (strong? time-consuming? Over-powered? Morally ambiguous? board-consuming? All of the above?) spells in the game. Are there any PbP rules/considerations for it or rules you have Rhea? I do plan on only summoning once per fight or to replace dead creatures, not to summon every round to create a horde of creatures.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
Bayani if you go investigator I'll assume you will do traps/devices. And I will stay combat oriented. If that is all right...
Are we going with the same descriptor
Characters:
-lvl 1.
-20pt buy
-300 staring gold
-Core races. Serpentfolk are the BAD guys in this adventure so you can't BE one. Unless you want to kill PCs with me.
-Gunslingers are okay, but no technology characters please. Old school baby!
-Although we start out on a deserted island in the shackles the AP warns that this will NOT be a pirate themed game.
-I would like a mix of new players and veterans, which I think makes for kick@ss fun. So tell us how long you've been playing and what you like in your games, okay?
Rhea Stardust
Iomedae is a little of an unusual choice for Iron Gods but hey whatever works for you.
Inner Sea Setting book says the crusaders of Iomedae have set up shop in Numeria to protect knights passing through on their way north to the Worldwound. So it could certainly fit into the setting!
On summoning, I don't have any special rules accept for how I would handle it: just rolling the dice and letting the player work out what hits/misses/saves. I probably wouldn't bother tracking summoned creatures HP or anything. I'd just leave it to the honest player. Unless I got suspicious, haha!
Ivar, so it would be lvl 1, 20 pt buy, technology is okay of course this time around. Fighter max starting gold (300gp) works again.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
is anyone else having trouble creating new characters on their "my Account" page? I cannot create or edit characters when I try to it sends me here
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
@ Rhea, I realize I may be a little ahead of myself but If I build a dex. based character who uses a cane sword can he use it sheathed as a walking stick as long as the cane scabbard is build tough as a combat scabbard (not sharpened)?
Edit: Thanks Merelinda, color me paranoid...
Captain Albrecht
Ok, thank you Rhea. And, haha awesome I also plan on using a cane (club) we will be the most posh group to ever suavely beat robots with sticks. That's what we are doing right? :D
Rhea Stardust
Yesyes, starting to get excited!
Let's just do max class gold this time. I want to hand out all the AP treasure!
I see no reason one couldn't use a cane sword as a walking stick. After all, a medical droids' needle can be used to suck brains out! So it's only fair.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
Ok, let me confess, still fairly new to pathfinder and PBP. I like fighter/rogue type best, I've played eight characters, one is a cleric, one is a ranger/wizard on his way to Eldrich Knight the rest have been fighters or slayers or rangers. So I haven't really gotten used to casters yet. Honestly I'm more interested in the characters. So...
With five people we should have a well rounded group, I like playing with all the bases covered. So I wanted to talk about it, if that is metagaming I'm sorry; when I played AD&D in college it was called survival. So...
I'm looking at two combat oriented characters: the first (ranged) a Halfling cavalier Dune Drifter with a blunderbuss, cane sword and whip and a really big dog/wolf... Or...second. (melee) a very large Northerner with a lot of attitude sans the naval experience, might be a slayer, ranger or fighter, I really like Ivar, may just give him a bastard sword and a hatred for robots and let him work....any opinions?
What may change that is if it is still core races only, what do you think Rhea, just core or are we expanding the food chain?
Bayani Nishou
I'll play an investigator as long as someone else is covering the arcane caster role. Investigator just isn't good enough in that role by himself. Otherwise I'll play something else.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson
Hmm, not sure what I'll end up playing for Iron Gods. I am already playing a Warpriest, and kinda feel like playing a sort of caster, like one of a Magus/Druid/Arcanist/Sorcerer/Wizard/Alchemist.
I'll prolly see what everyone else will pick before finalising what I'll play.
@ Bayani, As an investigtor with trapfind you would have several of the "skill area's" covered right? So warpriest, druid, investigator, and a caster to be named later.
The biggest hitter combat wise of that group would be the warpriest, so...
Merelinda are you thinking ranged, Melee or a switch hitter?
is anyone thinking gun? or do they still not pan out, I'm playing a cavalier with a pistol in my other "Iron Gods" game and I'm not real impressed with it yet (the pistol that is)
Bayani Nishou
Guns work great if you are a gunslinger. The most important part of the way guns work in pathfinder is misfires and reloading. If you're a gunslinger, or a class that works with guns similar to a gunslinger, you can get class features that let you reload faster, reduce misfire rates, and clear misfires faster. Otherwise they're not practical. Gunslingers also get Dex to damage with guns at level 5, which is key to doing lots of damage.
I thought about doing a myrmidarch magus who starts out with bows and changes to guns later, but the myrmidarch gives up too much and ranged spellstrike doesn't really work until you can quicken spells like Scorching Ray, letting you do a full attack with all the rays.
Rhea Stardust
2 things: first, Ivar, other races are fine! Back in the original game recruitment I was trying to weed out those yay-hoos who always want to play Kobald-Mermaid-Drow-o-Sauruses.
Second, by the end of book 1 everyone will have found a class/character customized piece of technology that you will probably enjoy over your initial character weapon choices. So. Just for planning purposes. That's where the Germans are. On the other side of the English Channel.
Metaphors are running weak tonight, sorry.
Rhea Stardust
And I'll probably change my gm-icon for the next game but it will be sad too because I think I'm in calistrian love with this one.
