Looking forward to it - I hope it's up to the challenge Anthony Daniels laid down. I don't think any other actor has had as much contact with Star Wars at as many levels as he has so I think he's got an informed perspective. A lot will depend on editing and post-production but I've been cautiously optimistic since Lucas sold out to Disney.

My Dark Lords, Ladies and Loyal Imperial Gentlemen,
A Day that Will Long be Remembered
If you only knew the Power of the Dark Side in its ability to relinquish everything in your wallets.

You can have Han solo in carbonite all you want...some of us prefered leiakan.

They all know the recipe:
a good scenario + good actors (acting) + a good director to manage it all the best way
It's quite easy to do but if you try to have a war without victim or blood it gonna be complicated...
I only expect a good (real) villain; I'm not even asking him (or "the tall one her") to be as good as Vader, just good enough to be impressive.
I also dream to see an Ewok and Gungan extermination camp but I'm afraid I'm asking too much... still...

They described one scene as a "force unleashed moment".

So, basically the story is that Luke goes a bit nuts. As the son of the "chosen one" the Force's prophecy and power falls to him. He gains power to the point of having random "expolsions" of power that he has a hard time controlling, or they jsut concern him, in regards to his effect on the galaxy. Will someone try to use him and his over abundance of force power to evil ends? Can he trus himself with this knowing his father was essentially a good person, but still fell. So, he goes into isolation, becoming a hermit like Obi Wan did. The plot involve others trying to find him to get him involved in solving a major problem, because he's the last Jedi.

What do I hope to see in the next Star Wars movie?
Simple.
Do you know how people say that "this movie" or "that movie" is the Star Wars of this generation.
Well how about we have a Star Wars the IS The Star Wars of this generation. For any generation while we are at it.
I want the silver screen to have all the elements that made my 7 year old self eyes go wide and mouth drop. I want Star Wars VII to bring back my sheer love and utter awe of Star Wars. I want the orchestra to play long and the audience to cheer wild. I want my villains properly British and my scoundrels with a heart of gold always shoot first. I want to go back and be transported to a long time ago, in the galaxy far, far away, and meet my 7 year old self again and we have the time of our lives.
I just want my childhood back for a couple of hours.
Now you kids get off my lawn!

You're not going to get it because you're not 7 anymore.
Today's seven year old may get that, but you won't.

I kind of have reached that point where I don't really care that much about the new star wars movies. Like...I don't think they will be a trainwreck, nor do I think they will be the best thing ever, but my whole attitude is kind of blah.
Part of it is, admittably, nothing I have heard so far really seems that interesting. Most of my friends agree with me in that we would rather see new characters, threats, and plots. It just feels like the next movie will be Star Wars: The Nostalgia edition. If I want nostalgia, I will watch the original trilogy.

That's a lot to expect from J.J. Abrams. After all, he created his own alternate Star Trek universe where he could ignore all canon from the various series and all the other movies, enabling him to do just about whatever he wanted, and then gave us...a rehash of Khan.

And instead of using the Thrawn trilogy, and digitally de-ageing the stars, he chose to disregard 30+ years of extended universe. Nice job. JJ. You putz.
sorry, but the thrawn trilogy isn't going to be made, at least not by him. For the same reasons we aren't going to see an x wing TV series or anything else that's already been in print - it's already been done and there's no money in it, especially for Disney. You have a problem with no thrawn movies, new jedi academy TV series or any other the literal HUNDREDS of things that could have been done in the past 30 years, talk to lucas.

Sigh, just imagine the awesomeness.
Best move he could have made. Unequivocally. Cleared the slate as much as possible.
And spit in the faces of the entire collective trust of minds who contributed to the EU for almost as long as he was alive. Yay.

Sounds like you're blaming Abrams for Lucas' bad decision making.
Once Disney buys your property, the slate is officially clean. Everything that has come before will be saved(good luck getting a physical copy of it if Disney puts it in the "vault"), but the IP will be handed to whomever they wish and they will move forward, not backward. You have a problem? Kick the mouse in the overalls or write Lucas an angry letter.

Yeah I can't fault Star Wars for doing that, since keeping all the canon effectively straight jackets any storyline they want to run for next hundred years on from the original trilogy. And most of the movie going public probably doesn't care about the EU.
On the other hand, that would actually force Disney and Abrams to actually pursue an entirely new story, and not making us sit through Star Wars: the retirement years, while waiting for the new characters to take over.

Someone said that the Star Wars fans are among the most devoted of all the fandoms. They got the awesome episode IV and V, they got KOTOR, they got the Thrawn trilogy, and they got The Force Unleashed. The rest has been... less than spectacular. On these, they have subsisted for time out of sodding mind...
