Hey guys, Now forewarning i'm still pretty fresh to Pathfinder so forgive any ignorance i portray.
A member of my brothers group had to drop from the campaign, and i'm filling in the spot.
I will be playing a Rouge, and i want to play my character up as a b&*@*~$+ artist.
Tales of great deeds I've never done, boasting of great wealth whilst being poor ect.
Trouble is my brother is playing a Paladin and has pretty much advised me not to lie to him, which throws my characters idea out the window.
Is there a way i can play this type of character out with a Paladin breathing down my neck?
Maybe if i get caught out on my lies i can water them down to the Paladin.
For example i say "I once killed 10 goblins blindfolded" and if the Paladin catches me out i can say something like "Well, metaphorically blindfolded"

I'm not sure why one can't lie around a paladin. Lying isn't necessarily an evil act. A lie that condemns a person to death is evil, but bragging about your "abilities" is more exaggeration than a true lie.
But, of course, your brother said not to lie TO HIM. I would assume that means you can lie to anyone else you'd like. Of course, you can increase your Bluff skill as much as you can and just beat his Sense Motive check. As long as you keep beating him on these checks, he technically doesn't know you lied. I've yet to meet a paladin who put ranks in Sense Motive; they tend to rely on their detect evil ability instead.

Talk to your brother and see how he feels and where he draws the line. As of yet you're just boasting, you aren't telling lies to avoid responsibility or gain advantage over otherwise honest people you're just a braggart which a Paladin might frown upon or call you to put your money where your mouth is but it really shouldn't be something he's fighting you about.

"I'm not lying!" (rolls bluff)
Also, Spy archetype (+ 1/2 level on bluff checks to lie), Honeyed words (+10 to bluff 1/day), Coax information (Use Bluff in place of intimidate to coerce co-operation).
1 level dip into enchanter wizard with viper familiar nets you an extra +5 on the checks.
Finally, start leveling Master Spy prestige class ASAP. Class level to Bluff, and at second level you get the ability to talk your way out of magical lie detection.
By level 10, without factoring in charisma and with no magic items or buffs, a Rogue 6 Enchanter 1 Master Spy 3 with max ranks, Deceitful, and Skill Focus is getting +34 on bluff checks to lie, which goes up to +44 once per day. Start adding in circlets of persuasion, a high charisma, and perhaps some magical help and it gets beyond ridiculous.
All of that is either Core or APG.

this came up in my first few games but not since.. so I haven't given it much thought ..
So this suggestion isn't the best; however. I went with a compulsive liar... The kind of guy who exagerates everything he says. After a while the paladin kind of just gave up and decided to try to correct me by example; always telling the straight truth. I t made a pretty funny set up.. but thats how i got away with things. It was all so mixed together that it passed through.

If you want to max Bluff even more you can dip a level of Rakshasa bloodline sorcerer for an extra +5 bonus a few times each day.

Honestly as long as your lie isn't harmful to anyone I don't see where it would be a problem.
I mean what happens if you get caught? Let's suppose your lies are mostly about things you've done, or more specifically things you haven't done. Like killing a great wurm all by yourself.
Lets suppose the paladin sees right through the lie, what does he do? Call you out? Lying on it's own isn't strictly evil, though depending on what happens because of the lie might make it an evil act.
Honestly you could have an interesting repartee where you constantly lie and the paladin calls you out for your (harmless) lies.

Just grab that with eldritch heritage.
