Been trying to play some 40k on this website for months, but no love. I've got 4 or 5 PCs but haven't been able to play any of them b/c GMs leave, trolls prank, or things never take off. Soooo...
Anybody wanna play? I don't care what game, as long as its a game and everyone can be active daily. I really like how this site is designed for gaming and aliases, but I'm bored and want to utilize it for more than just reading others games.

I might be willing to run a Rogue Trader or Only War campaign, depending on interest.
I have a long history with the setting and table top games, I've just found that most people don't 'get' the role of Inquisitors or Space Marines beyond the initial explanation.
If I were to run either title, the set up would be detailed as I would want to do full Ship and crew/Regiment creation with the group. That or I would randomize before character creation.
Thoughts?

Well hello there, BayouSnowman. I know the fluff, I know the background, and I've even run Black Crusade and Deathwatch via play by post.
I've got 5 Deathwatch characters made up and ready to go. I don't play the miniatures games anymore, but I've got a bunch of Deathwatch and Black Crusade hardcovers sitting around and getting no love. So I would be interested.
I do have an example of a sadly short-lived play by post game that I ran for some friends of mine here if you want to take a look. I think the admins were playing around with dice tags, but I just used a random dice roller and cut and pasted the results. I was used to the Paizo format.
I've been looking to run a game on here again, too.

I'm actually very interested in both. I've never played either one, and am currently in a Deathwatch game at the moment, it being the first P&P 40k I've played.
I understand a lot of the lore for the setting, however if we happen to be playing in a very specific sector or planet I would have to brush up on whats going on exactly.
I'd most interested in playing Rouge Trader out of the two.

Nice to see this thead getting some attention.
I'm down for any game in 40k, it'll be up to who decides to GM. Seems like a few of us here have tried some campaigns only to have them fizzle before they take off. I plan on sticking around and hope we have some others too who do the same.
Most interested in Rogue Trader, but a Black Crusade game could be fun too. I'd maybe do both. Like I said, "anything you want." Who ever GMs ( Can be multiple if people are interested and willing to run/play diff. game) can decide the rules and requirements etc.
We don't quite have enough for a full crew of RT, but that could change one way or another once the campaign details are posted and recruitment open.
So, to anyone who wants to GM, sign me up. Reply here or PM, and everyone who wants to play can move to that thread to begin.

Hey, I'm currently playing a DW game on this site. BC was fun, but my first play on this site had the GM leaving us once we got planetside. Still got that Alias I think. Anyways, if you want to give that BC book some love, I'm down, but it seems many here are interested in RT or OW.
Guess we'll see what books you got. I know its a lot to set up something without knowing if you'll have the interest, but there were many of us in the BC game that would've liked to continued. I think if you did open a campaign, you'd have little trouble recruiting.

I think I'm probably going to throw up a recruitment in the next day or so for an Only War campaign. I really want to make a Rogue Trader group work, but it simply requires more detail than I can give to campaign set up right now, and quite frankly I'm not sure I can make it work as a Play-by-Post that isn't drifting from the core rules set.
Before I throw up a recruitment thread (which I'll link to here for everyone who's dotted), I'll say I really want to go through Regiment creation with whoever ends up in the group (either by Democracy or each person takes a turn making decisions). My only restriction is that the Regiment will be fresh blood from wherever they are from, so some characters might be toughened vets in 'other' senses due to background, but as a unit they will be green.
So yeah, look forward to a Recruitment thread in the near future.

Sweet, my only attempta at OW never took off and another I created a PC, but wasn't recruited...So I'm familiar with the books a bit, but never played. Seem interesting and I'm excited to try a new book in the 40k verse. Thanks for stepping up and making my wish a reality.
As for RT, it might take a bit more detail and time, being so sandbox, you never know what they group could choose.
As for creating a regiment, I'll have to read up on that. Most people say that doing things by democracy takes weeks, like putting together the Ship point usage in RT. Maybe taking turns would be best or you set it up for us if players don't mind...maybe we give some input. I'll freshen up on the OW books and consider what I'd like to play so when the thread drops I'll be ready.

Well the other options are using an existing Regiment, which while possibly iconic also forces specific identities, or I preen one by either choice or dice.
I mean, I have fun making regiments, and I'm ok to do that. I've got one written up that comes from a Feudal/barbaric world where all of the new recruits wear their Greco-Roman style armour from their tribal warfare, the planet providing each of them with only a las pistol and a power weapon (long back story to legitimize this.) Whether this or any of my other crazy ideas would actually apply to a GROUP setting, who knows?
Honestly, if I were to go democratic I would lay out several options at once and people would just vote for whichever they want. In the case of ties I would break it, then using all of the provided information I would write up a few blurbs about our fictional Homeworld and the culture involved before opening it up for Character Creation.
I will say I think I've come up with a really cool idea for the first planet/warzone the Regiment will head in to. Still trying to decide if I want to tie it in to a specific "historical" campaign or not to try and tie in some recognizable enemy units/groups.

I only have the books for Deathwatch and Black Crusade. I was a pretty big Chaos player and fan for a while. I would have liked to pick up the rest of them, but alas, the interest waned in that aspect of 40K pretty quickly with our local group of wargamers.
If you guys are going to do an Only War game I wish you luck - and remember, The Emperor Protects!
| FuriousPhil |
I could do either Black Crusade or Deathwatch. My preference would be Black Crusade, because Chaos can be really interesting to play (especially if players have goals and aren't just "randumb evil lol") However, I think Deathwatch would be equally cool. Whichever you guys prefer!
I would need a little time to prep for either - it's been a little while (over a year maybe?) since I ran the game and used the rules.
I would be looking for four players. I would also need about a week to get things ready, so if you're interested, let me know in this thread.
Once we have enough people, we can go through character creation, and then jump right into it. These games (40K RPGs) do tend to be combat heavy...which sometimes makes it a little difficult to do by play-by-post, but hey, let's give it a shot!
| FuriousPhil |
I can accommodate all five of you for a Black Crusade game. We can use everything in the core book, plus The Tome of Fate and the Tome of Blood (Tome of Excess and Tome of...Nurgle can be used too, I just need to get copies of those).
PLAYERS:
BayouSnowman
TerraNova
Nohwear
The Doom That Came to Sarnath

If you would like to start thinking about character creation, it basically breaks down like this:
If you would like to play a Chaos Space Marine you can choose from the following Archetypes:
Champion - a warrior and commander, leader of soldiers either by fear or devotion.
Chosen - A consummate soldier and hard bitten veteran
Forsaken - An outcast from his former allegiance, a lone wanderer who joins other warbands out of necessity.
Sorcerer - A Chaos Space Marine that has mastered the art of the psyker.
If you would like to play a Human, you can choose from these archetypes:
Apostate - An infiltrator and silver-tongued serpent, a powerful leader of the masses.
Renegade - A warrior who survives on skill of arms rather than brute force
Heretek - One initiated into the mysteries of technology, a rebel from the cult of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Psyker - An unsanctioned and chaos-turned psyker, extremely powerful and infused by the warp.
I have a couple of options. I started off with a version of "Broken Chains" that I still have a bunch of text for - that was the previous game that got cut short. There are a couple of other things I can adapt (False Prophets, Rivals for Glory). Or, we can jump right into a big campaign like Hand of Corruption. I like using the published stuff as a base, and then jumping off from there.
Personally, I'm inclined to jump into Hand of Corruption. Because it is 1) amazing 2) gives us a lot of leeway in terms of accomplishing PC goals and 3) I already have it, and it reduces my work considerably!
If we are good to go I can start a new thread for character creation. I'll outline all the stuff we need to know there. Don't worry, you can roll d10s and actually select where you want to put them, as opposed to straight rolling or whatever.
Hey - I'm actually kind of psyked about this.

Character Creation / OOC Discussion Thread is up HERE. I'll be creating the campaign thread and all that fun stuff shortly.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I don't know what everyone's level of experience is, but I'm a pretty easy-going GM. I've only played this a couple of times and run it a couple too, but the system isn't too hard to grasp.
