Greetings all I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do together.
@GMFW, My greyhawk knowledge is fairly limited. I've played Night Below and a few other campaigns in greyhawk so I'll recognize a few things but that's about it as far as geography goes. Now that I've had a chance to rest up from weekend escapades I'll have an opportunity to do some research. Thanks for opportunity.
I haven't played any Dark Sun I'm not quite sure which game you mean.

Oops checks records .....tribeof1 is the DM under the Dark Sun.
You're the chap who works on the front desk. Unless you have moved on from there?
If everyone can make sure their alias are user friendly and include all the relevant details in the race section so that they appear in the game thread too.

Hello one and all.
I am in the process of finishing Isandril's character sheet/profile. I do have a question or two regarding class equipment though.
1. (a) chain mail or (b) leather, longbow, and 20 arrows -> Could I take a studded leather instead of either of the options? Chain mail is a bit too heavy for my liking, and if I understand things correctly, with Isandril having fire bolt, the longbow is a wee bit redundant (especially considering he will be closing with the enemy as soon as he gets the chance unless it is physically impossible to do so...).
2. (a) a martial weapon and a shield or (b) two martial weapons -> Going with the two martial weapons here, a pair of scimitars to be more specific.
3. (a) a light crossbow and 20 bolts or (b) two handaxes -> Could I go with three daggers here? I find them thematically more appropriate with Isandril being an agile elf and all, plus I always liked throwing daggers instead of throwing axes.
4. (a) a dungeoneer’s pack or (b) an explorer’s pack -> Going with the explorer's pack here.

That's all fine by me

Excellent. Then he should ready for your perusal, I believe. I also spent 1 gp from his cash to purchase a Dragonchess set, since his noble background grants him proficiency with it and I like the idea of his being into Greyhawk's version of chess.

Hello all, and congrats for making the cut! I am a very experienced gamer (read...old), and I have some deal of experience in the Greyhawk setting. I am really looking forward to an update to the setting in conjunction with 5E.

Aerik Bear-Born |

Greetings all! By way of introduction I'll note that I've never had a chance to play in Greyhawk (I got started with 2E amid the explosion of new campaign settings) but dug into the setting quite a bit when Paizo was putting out Age of Worms. For those without a great deal of familiarity, I've been getting a lot of mileage out of the Greyhawk wiki on Canonfire, here.

Sadarr |

Long time gamer as well, and still have the original Greyhawk boxed set on my shelf. Playing since 1977.... Gah! I am old...
Travelling a lot the next two days, but will try to stay in touch. Really looking forward to this as 5E is the closest I've seen in feeling since 1E.

Well, that's everyone chimed in. I am a old geezer to though with a younger wife who keeps me on my toes. Greyhawk was the setting I started out in, however it was around Hommlett, then Keoland and latterly the Barbarians. Then the UK got the state of Onnwal which was overrun with the Scarlet Brotherhood. So this part of the world is fairly new to me.
Although I said we would start today I actually think its best if everyone get their character sheets up straight.
Isandril has a lot of useful info just below his name. Could everyone make sure they do that today. Meanwhile I'll work on fitting the backgrounds and getting things up and running.
Table Etiquette (or teaching you guys to suck eggs)
1. I'll make lots of rolls behind the scenes to speed things up - init. and because they are passive checks.
2. Try to put energy into your posts in game, i.e. use sights, smells and other senses to convey what is happening - just one line of ooc, one line of text and one line of italics isn't really enough. Not every post but at least once a week.
3. Look at your posts in a few weeks time and see if you are still doing these things. That shows commitment.
4. Weekend posting is not going to happen much, I have too much work on Saturdays and kids to look after Sunday while my wife is doing a teaching degree. If one or two end up riffing with a barmaid or whatever then I have no problem with people being creative.
5. If you cannot post during the week, let me know and I'll bot you. If you have enough time, put in a couple of generic actions that we will follow on your profile. Given time I'm sure we will get to know each others character a bit.
6. Some of you may post more than others, that's fine but often I will not move things along until everyone has had a chance to be involved. So keep posting!
7. Good luck and happy dice rolling.
Cheers

Alright. My medicine isn't a proficient skill so I've got a -2, that 6 wisdom and all, the only healing he's got is the lay on hands. Even if I made it a proficient skill that is still +0. So solider or guard would be the best fit.
How does Heironeous sound?
The book and the loon are both up to you. I meant it to be some kind of holy text (Not necessarily to Eisen's god) to fit his chosen bond, but it doesn't have to be he just has to believe it is, as it's completely unreadable to him. Or even better he can't open it.

Right forgot medicine. Maybe you should come up with something more appropriate?
Heironeous is a good choice, very brave and paladin-y.
Cheers

Looking forward to getting after it!

Eisen
He is about seven and a messenger, his sweaty face shows its been a busy day already. Just like the grown ups, the kids work hard too in Greatwall. The boy hands over a small parchment envelope with a black wax seal in the shape of a rampant bear.
It is time to stay playing and start earning thy place among the heroes of thou Brave Lord. Tis my wish to meet thee tonight at 9pm in Derren’s. Drinks and a word but do not let a soul know. A sergeant of the watch will greet thee. Ware, other parties may interfere so do not draw attention, it will spoil …….. The boy has been paid.
Eisen gets one inspiration point which can be used for any dealings with a freeman or serf in Greatwall. He has been in Greatwall for a few weeks at most so doesn’t know much about the rest of the party except by sight.
Vic
In trots a boy gasping, he takes out a message from his satchel. The seven year old boy is wild haired and sweaty. He hands over a crumpled envelope of parchment sealed with black wax in the style of a rampant bear.
It’s the early afternoon and the full sun beats down outside. Several builders are taking a lunch break before they go back to the west wall repairs. But no one is paying much attention to the half elf or his note.
Opening it, the thief reads the following short note written with thick ink;
Your heroism doth make for a fine manner of man. Tis my wish to meet thee tonight at 9pm in Derren’s. Drinks and a word but do not let anyone know. A sergeant of the watch will greet thee. Ware, other parties may interfere so do not draw attention, it will spoil …….. The boy has been paid.
Vic gets one inspiration point to use when dealing with any serf or freemen in Greatwall. This includes merchants and guards. The Lightfinger has given Vic a quick chat about the town but as far as the rest of the party goes they are barely known, except one or two by sight.
Sadarr
Across the dusty field, runs a youngling with a bouncing satchel. He has dirt and sweat up his legs but he jogs up to Sadarr and takes out a message. He hands over a crumpled envelope of parchment sealed with black wax in the style of a rampant bear.
Opening it, the wyrmkin reads the following short note written with thick ink;
Your honour and toil doth make for a fine manner of man. Tis my wish to meet thee tonight at 9pm in Derren’s. Drinks and a word but do not let anyone know. A sergeant of the watch will greet thee. Ware, other parties may interfere so do not draw attention, it will spoil …….. The boy has been paid.
The boy is already off again heading back towards the Southgate.
Sadarr gets one inspiration point to use when dealing with the freemen and serfs of Greatwall. He intimidates everyone without trying. But Sadarr has only been here for a few weeks at most and doesn’t know the party at all.
Aerik
Opening it, the priest reads the following short note written with thick ink;
Aerik gets one inspiration point for any dealings with the militia or guards in Greatwall. He hasn’t been in the town long enough to get to know the rest of the party, except one or two by sight.
Isandril
But the town is suffering and the problem is a reality. One that the humans do not appear to have a ready solution for, however they seem stoic in the face of this adversity. Something which even a foreign grey elf can notice. As he leaves, the Guard Office at midday, a young messenger boy runs up from waiting beneath a shady tree. He pulls a yellow envelope from his satchel and hands it over with respect.
Your honour and toil doth make for a fine manner of elf. I wish to meet thee tonight at 9pm in Derren’s. Drinks and a word but do not let anyone know. A sergeant of the watch will greet thee. Ware, other parties may interfere so do not draw attention. The boy has been paid.
Isandril has one inspiration point for use in dealing with the nobility of Greatwall. This extends to the officers and rich merchants too. But he has only been in Greatwall for a few weeks, and hasn’t got a chance to recognise or know the rest of the party.

Regarding Unarmed Strikes I'd say the extra half a point of average damage isn't worth house-ruling. I don't expect to go around punching people enough to get any benefit from it. I'd also like to not take extra damage from enemies who DO go around punching people.

F. Castor |

Well, he is more than a century old, so he is bound to have picked up a trick or two along the way. Of course, rolls being rolls, dumb luck really helped. Generally, I tend to preview the rolls first and then write up the post to more or less reflect them, at least as much as it is possible (plus, I do not really picture Isandril as the kind of guy who would go around punching people... :-P).

Eisen Sibyl |

Pharris Cophalis is a lovely elven lady with a penchant for attractive men. She comes from Vesve Forest and arrived since the War to support efforts to avenge Iuz and free such prisoners as still survive – all in the name of Olidammara the Laughing Rogue.
am I just reading this wrong?

![]() |

Maybe this section will help. Let me know. Eisen's knowledge of the Forest may be limited but this is "From the Ashes".
The term “Highfolk” is applied both to the largest city in this small realm and to the land as a whole. The Mayor is the elected spokesman for the free town, but also speaks for the region when this is deemed appropriate by the populace. It is principally a realm of high and wood elves, without a fixed boundary, since control over the southern and western parts of the Vesve Forest (named the High Forest by the Highfolk) fluctuates between the demihumans and rangers of that domain and the fell creatures.....
Any good?

Eisen Sibyl |

Um... what? Highfolk isn't even in the part I quoted. My confusion isn't about the geography but rather structure of the sentence taken from the campaign tab.
"To support the efforts to avenge Iuz..."
- Implies she's allied with IUZ and is avenging him.
"..free such prisoners as still survive" (Do you mean that?)
-but there is no mention of prisoners anywhere in the campaign tab so which such prisoners do you refer?

![]() |

Next time it might be best to avoid confusion by stating what you mean. I get it now. Rather than get into a discussion about the English, I'll change it.
"She arrived from the Vesve Forest to avenge the actions of Iuz during the War. Also to free those surviving prisoners taken to Dorakraa."
That better?

Aerik Bear-Born |

We've got a group that includes English-speakers on at least two continents. I'm not sure everyone is a native speaker, at that, and there are bound to be some idiosyncrasies that don't translate 100 percent (I know FW has sent me to Urban Dictionary with some Brit slang, and my Midwest American ain't exactly Queen's English.)
Luckily, with my character being a drunk, I can blame any confusion on good role-playing ;)
