Full Caster Arcane Martials?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Eldritch Scrapper

Scroll master

Blade Adept

This right here is interesting. Each of the 3 full caster arcanes apparently now have martial archetypes. So, what do you guys think of htem and which do you feel is the most effective at playing Martial as a full caster?

EDIT: FIX'd

None of them are that effective, as you only have 1/2 BAB. If I had to choose one of them it would be the Blade Adept. If you want 9th level casting and four attacks in a round, be an Eldritch Knight.

Also, you want the Scrollmaster, not the Scroll Scholar.

Without getting at least a scaling bonus to attack rolls ((one that scales to at least a +5), they don't seem very impressive...

I'm sure one can make it work (Full casting makes anything viable) but these archetypes aren't worthy much more than "meh..." for me.

Eldrich Blade makes the Blade Adept a slightly better gish IMO, considering you can multiclass and the black blade will still level up ith you. Makes for a more viable Eldrich Knight.

Arcanist 9/Eldritch Knight 10/1 x(either arcanist or a full bab class) is ok.

Scrapper 6/DD/4/EK gets you +16 BAB and 9th level spells, but not really sure the archetype is worth it.

Personally, I haven't found a completely satisfying arcane warrior since my 2E AD&D Fighter/Mage.

Dark Archive

I still enjoy the 3.5 Duskblade. It caps at level 5 or 6 spells but it has full caster level, and full BAB, with an arcane channel that works better than spell strike since it never requires concentration checks and does not provoke.

With the FAQ ruling on SLAs counting towards prestige class qualification, it's easy enough to get an Eldritch knight started at a low level so you can have lots of BAB and casting by reasonable levels.

I have a 4th level character with wizard 1 (scryer)/ fighter 1/ eldritch knight 2, and according to the FAQ it is kosher.

This is a PFS character so I've done the figuring for 11th level (practical max PFS level), and by that level the character will have a BAB of +10 and cast as a 9th level caster.

Though I will say I've seen enough Magi in practice to really think they are a plenty effective enough combination of casting and melee. They really are quite effective when built and run correctly.

i think any of these can do pretty well from 11th or 12th on... transformation immediately fixes all your BAB issues, and if you can combine it with a contingent and/or quickened buff (or, even more so, if you get the drop on an enemy and have a round or two to buff) you're in really good shape.

i especially like the idea of the eldritch scrapper. when you use transformation you (obviously) lose spell access, but gaining martial flexibility means you'll still have some options for adapting in combat. stack transformation with a good monstrous physique, a haste or heroism, and 3 bonus combat feats and you should be able to hang with the melees pretty well (plus, you know, be a full caster again after combat).
