Counterpunch unavailable for monks

Rules Questions

Counterpunch is a pretty cool new high-level feat in the Advanced Class Guide. What I find bothersome is that monks are excluded from qualifying for it. The prerequisites are: Dex 18, Combat Ref lexes, Improved Unarmed Strike, Weapon Focus (unarmed strike); base attack bonus +16 or brawler level 12th.

Since a monk caps at +15 base attack bonus, and isn't a brawler, the feat is simply not available for a monk. I find that a bit odd and assume it is not intended. Any thoughts?

(The ACG has loads of great options for monks and other classes, I just find it odd that this particular one is not included.)

Aside from that, for what the feat does, the prerequisites are quite high.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice feat, but it should be available sooner IMO.

And how do you counterpunch with your feat? Shouldn't you be counterkicking? /s

Because Snake Fang is so much better:

Snake Fang (Combat)
You can unleash attacks against an opponent that has dropped its guard.

Prerequisite: Combat Reflexes, Improved Unarmed Strike, Snake Sidewind, Snake Style, Acrobatics 6 ranks, Sense Motive 9 ranks.

Benefit: While using the Snake Style feat, when an opponent’s attack misses you, you can make an unarmed strike against that opponent as an attack of opportunity. If this attack of opportunity hits, you can spend an immediate action to make another unarmed strike against the same opponent.

This is why Master of Many Styles is the best archetype. Crane, Snake, Dragon. Everything is so cool.

Don't forget Unarmed Fighter. You can snag 3 of those feats while ignoring the prerequisites by taking both.

My guess is there should be a part that says ", or monk level 12th." at the end.

HOW DID I MISS THIS

DEX BASED SNAKE STYLE + COUNTERPUNCH BRAWLER/MOMS COMING THROUGH ALL ABOARD THE BEATDOWN TRAIN CHOO CHOO

Edit: Once per round? Hype and Beatdown trains both derailed.

*Tosses Feat in the garbage where it belongs*

Well, there's always Crane Wing. /trollface

It's funny there are like 4 other feats that specify "lvl x monk or brawler", when the brawler already counts as a monk for qualifying for feats, and then there's a brawler only feat for some reason.

Shadow Lodge

It comes from a loooong tradition for paizo to design unarmed feats and items that monks cant use or are annoying to use, such as the "Brawling Armor"
