Folks have come VERY close to guessing the location. They haven't guessed the EXACT location yet.

(Does a search of the thread using one word...)

EDIT: Yup. "Your search matched no items."

If someone DOES guess, by using logic and not just throwing darts blindly at the wall... I'll send them a prize. Only the FIRST person to guess right wins said prize, and said prize might be lame... but it's still a prize.

As long as the general area has been identified I feel enough accomplishment to wait until the full reveal.

It's in the Mwangi Expanse right?

Osibu? Because Durvin Gest's disappearance was somehow tied to his tossing of the Lens of Galundari into the Nemesis Well?

It's a Rovagug AP? :D

I'm going to guess Mzali, with the party opposing the reanimated boy god Walkena and his cult, which is familiar in the sense that we just did something very similar in Mummy's Mask. :p

Every third AP seems to be set in Garund, so my bet is also on Mwangi. The last Mwangi AP only focused lightly on the African- and dino-parts of it (being mostly serpentfolk/azlanti themed) so it would be great to revisit that area, or beyond that in southern Garund off the map somewhere.

Note that "familiar" versus "traditional" may not mean that the AP takes place in the same location or near the same location as previous APs/modules. It may just mean the AP revolves around trope(s) commonly used in fantasy literature and gaming. Which kind of opens it up to a lot of things.

I'm thinking Mediogalti Island. The Red Mantis have made cameos in several AP's, but they've never had an AP about them, which i think is a shame, because I think they're awesome, and not just because I think entomology rules.

Freehold.

That's awesome.

An entire AP set in a oneroom apartment in the bad part of Absolom.
Modernist high fantasy adventure.

There's got to be a way to do it.

I was going to comment on how this was baiting the audience when it suddenly dawned on me: our favorite Tyrannosaur isn't doing to to be cruel, but is instead using a marketing technique to keep the audience interested.

Even the "prize" mentioned is just a way of drawing up further interest (and even once the location is mentioned, this will just adjust the discussion to what sort of adventure would be located there).

Well played, Mr. Jacobs.

Rovagug? End of the World AP? Tarrasque AP? *Looks up subscription costs*

My official guess is Falcon's Hollow. Probably just wishful thinking on my part though, don't think that region has been touched since Mike McArtor was here.

Lantern Lodge

for an official guess I'll go for Iobaria as we've payed short or optional visits but haven't really explored it and we have had hints that something nasty is there.

my hope though would be to sometime soon either see a return to Tien Xia or a first visit to Vudra.

It is the return to Sandpoint AP.

Nisroch, Nidal and tentacle horrors beneath it. Lovecraftian themes and horror in a city that has appeared in a book.

The only way I'll accept an AP that returns to Sandpoint is if I'm riding a Solar dragon burning it to the ground.

You know, after everyone evacuates. I don't want 'em dead.

You just made the Creative Director cry. Just so you know.

And then you redoubled the Creative Director's desire to do something MAJOR with Sandpoint at some point in the future.

Spoiler:
The next AP after Giantslayer does not take place in or go to Sandpoint, but now I'm gonna make sure there's at least one Sandpoint easter egg in it!

If it helps the tears go away, I love Sandpoint, and Varisia. I hope for many more adventures and APs set in both!

Hey, it ain't because I dislike Sandpoint as a location, I just have bad memories with it as a player!

...That being said, if Shayliss Vinder shows up in another Adventure Path as an assassin-for-hire I will be both very unnerved and very happy.

That reminds me. I need to have Shayliss show up as an assassin to try and kill my GMPC after the various things that happened to Shayliss behind the scenes. Heh heh heh.

Okay, one word, doesn't appear in the thread at all... My guess is HERMEA and the theme is some twisted nightmare between 1984 and Brave New World with a dash of Kingmaker and some Dragonslaying for dessert and a side of pickled Sandpoint easter eggs.

Logic: Not in the thread, and I do recall some rather interesting thread topics on Hermea with input from more then one Paizo staff member that did disagree with each other a bit on the topic and alignment. Maybe a chance to finish the argument once and for all with an AP? Having the dark nature of social engineering on top would be a lovely bonus.

If Dreaming Psion's guess about it being Shadow Plane/Kyton/Dou-Bral related is correct, then maybe it is set in Shadow Absalom.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

The location/theme is apparently one word in length, so any location or theme that is longer than one word isn't correct. Plus it hasn't been said before.......Absolam?

Liberty's Edge

Absalom was mentioned upthread I believe.

We are close geographically...

Familiar, but not yet mentioned...

I would guess Iobaria, but we haven't been talking about the places close to there I don't believe. Though, an Iobaria AP would be pretty boss.

My sleuthing skills are at a loss.

Liberty's Edge

I'm going to guess something culminating in Aucturn and the Citadel of the Black. Previous APs have danced around mythos/dominion of the black and distant worlds, but there has not been one directly focused on it yet. Plus James loves that sort of thing too. (Hmm...not exactly traditional fantasy though...) This would be my number one pick for an AP though, so I hope we get it at some point!

For Pathfinder #100 I'd like to see a visit to the Spire of Nex, written by Erik and developed by James. Iconic location, iconic names. An aboleth involvement would be nice...

Cheliax. "Familiar" due to previous AP Council of Thieves? PFS Season 5 mission for Cheliax faction had to do with finding nasty stuff. They found it? Now the world needs saving?

Dark Archive

Absolom and Iobaria have both mentioned up thread.

So far, among all APs, there has been 2-3 Avistan APs and then 1 Garund AP. (50% 3 Avistan - 1 Garund, 50% 2 Avistan - 1 Garund). So there's about a 50% chance that the AP is indeed in Garund.

Running down the list of major Garund locations as single words.

Rahadoum, Thuvia, Osirion, Sodden, Mana, Wastes - no search hits

Mediogalti, Shackles, Alkenstar, Geb, Nex, Sargava, Mwangi, Katapesh, Absalom - yes search hits

I'm gonna rule out the northern coast of Garund because of Mummy's Mask and People of the Sands. I'm gonna rule out Mana Wastes because a whole AP there seems like it would be very caster unfriendly, plus Geb, Nex and Alkenstar are ruled out.

There's one remaining name: The Sodden Lands. That's my guess.

I don't know how, if indeed at all, it would fit with James' clues of having laid down groundwork in previous products. Having said that, James and Adam talked about how somebody was creepily close, in proximity to Neongelion's post, and I do seem to recall that James is a fan of aboleths, and this is James' AP.

Sodden Lands would seem to be well suited to underwater or amphibious adventuring that could well feature the aboleths...

I have the feeling that Skull and Shackles has been one of their better selling APs because it got to be a card game so soon, so proximity to the Shackles could also be a point in favor of the Sodden Lands, allowing for piratical themes on the side, mayhaps.

There's even two decent possibilities for a fairly cohesively themed "People of" book. "People of the Storm" could cover Sodden Lands, Shackles and Mediogalti, while "People of the Jungle" could cover Sodden Lands, Mwangi and Sargava.

So, I'm guessing Sodden Lands, with the aboleths as an opponent, maybe a bit of pirates and/or Red Mantis on the side, and maybe having something to do with the Eye of Abendego. Lirgen and its astrology could have something to do with AP #100...

Realms of the Mammoth Lords. Jump into the Earthnavel and explore the Darklands.

That's my guess.

Mu guess is either a underwater theme, with a possible attempt for a Azlanti return to prominence possibly under the Inner Sea with a Azlanti tie in. This would be hinted at throughout AP's, modules, and novels, (things about Azlanti one way or another). I haven't read the Emerald Spire super dungeon but from my understanding it it Azlanti themed and so is Thronkeep.

Or a Dark Tapestry AP possibly kind of like "At the Mountains of Madness" and is located on either the north or south poles.

Kingdombuilding in ancient Azlant! Or possibly dungeoncrawling on Azlant? No, underwater espionagedrama, where you play undercover Aboleths!

That, or travel from Sargava to Kyonin, fight the beastie, look at the Galtian border, and say "nah, that place is a mess".

Actually, it may or may not be one word. All we know is that one word was SEARCHED for regarding the location.

After checking the schedule, Erik, #150 means you need to start writing in a week. #200, due to the aggressive nature of said schedule, means you're already 2 months behind.

If we're guessing Garund, here is my prediction.
Starts in: Eleder, capital of Sargava, ultimately moving to Kalabuto and surrounding environs

1. Kalabuto is right on the edge of Sargava and the Mwangi Expanse. (So could fit a definition of “so close as to be right”, with many people guessing the next AP will be in the Mwangi Expanse and a couple people guessing Sargava. In fact, under the right conditions Sargava might lose Kalabuto.) This location also potentially allows access to several adventure plots (Jatembe and Walkena related plots, for example)

2. Eleder is a good starting place because it allows comparatively easy access to the rest of Garund. It has a large Zenj population (Jatembe and his Ten Warriors were the Zenj tribe’s cultural heroes

3. Eleder has been visited before in the Serpent’s Skull AP, and the general area is talked about in Sargava: The Lost Colony. So this location could be considered “familiar" fantasy.

4. The potential themes (colonialism, war, what makes a god, etc.) have been explored in fantasy and to some extent the adventure paths, but a more colonial setting is a somewhat less “traditional” fantasy than the pseudo-European medieval setting.

5. The Sargavan ethnic tensions are simmering to a boil, and it’s been hinted that the Mwangi underclass in Kalabuto might rebel and join with those from outside to overthrow the Chelish colonialists. If so, Walkena might try to take advantage of the situation.

6. Kalabuto has a number of mysterious ruins in it, allowing for at least one adventure site.

7. There has been some build up lately to the question, “What makes a god?” (Mythic Realms, Iron Gods, etc.).

The trick here is such AP would almost certainly involve a lot of sociopolitical issues, so they would have to be handled with some care.

I don't care much about what the specific adventure is about, but I do hope to see a bona fide HOLY CRAP offering for #100.

Several years ago, the mere fact that #100 was on some list, somewhere, and no longer entirely theoretical was in itself cause for celebration. Now? Now it's just cause for work.

That and coolness.

If it’s on Avistan, I am strongly thinking it’s going involve one of the “demihuman” races (dwarf, elf, etc.) My best guess is that it’s going to involve the dwarves, and, more specifically, one of the Sky Citadels (if not Highhelm since I already guessed it.) Nonhuman-centered adventure paths (including “one race” adventure paths) have been asked about for some time now, and dwarves seem to be one of the more popularly demanded races. Plus you potentially have a lot of hooks (finding the lost Axe of the Dwarven Lords from Droskar’s Crag, the Sky Citadel links to the Darklands, the ultimate meaning of the Quest for Sky, etc.)

Why a Sky Citadel? Well, if you could make it mobile and float from place to place, it would let you have your cake and eat it too in the dilemma of seeing far off exotic places while still having a home base. Dwarves themselves a fairly iconic, familiar fantasy fixture, but having an adventure path centered on the plight of the dwarves or their Sky Citadels is less traditional. After we get a Giantslayer Adventure Path, it’s only fitting that we get an adventure path relating to dwarves.

Now for a location, I’m somewhat stuck between Janderhoff and Kraggodan as a guess to which Sky Citadel. Janderhoff seems to have been mentioned more, but I think it’s fairly likely it will be visited in the Giantslayer AP. Kraggodan is a little bit farther removed from the area purported to be in the Giantslayer AP, and generally Paizo (with some exceptions) has liked to make their Aps modular. Therefore, Kraggodan seems like the more likely choice.

Another thing Kraggodan has going for it is that it’s smack dab right in between Nirmathas and Molthune. (But it still tries to remain neutral) Both of these countries have been guessed by posters in this thread, and a floating Sky Citadel in between them would qualify as “very close” or perhaps even “so close as to practically be right”. Like, Kalabuto, Kraggodan is a border land. It technically sits within a couple of country’s borders, yet as a floating city, it is technically part of neither of them. And by having the dwarves’ situation trigged by a Molthune/Nirmathas blow-up, the AP writers can hedge their bet with a single race centric AP by bringing in said Molthune/Nirmathas conflict.

Regardless of whether any given guess is correct or not, thinking them up as thought experiments is still fun. And hopefully even if any set of particular guesses are not correct at all they'll give somebody some ideas for their home campaigns. That's one of the best parts of these "Speculate on what the next path is gonna be" type of threads.
