I can only take Adam West Batman in small doses.

I used to be the same way. But I caught an episode on late at night a few weeks ago and it reminded me that I used to love it's goofiness. And that, for all said silliness, the Batman character had a heavy emphasis on detective skills and smarts, which I consider to be part of the essence of the character.

And it's something I can share with the boy without worrying if it will give him nightmares.

Fun with the kid I understand, but if that is an example of an emphasis on detective skills and smarts, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree- Black Dynamite was more logical in the chicken and waffles scene.

You are to be commended for your wisdom, here.

Only in that he uses his "detective" skills just as much as his fists in the old series. Very different from some of the movies.

But, as far as the plots and writing - well, it was the 60s.......

Also, what's Black Dynamite?

Scarab Sages

I haz mead now! It's tasty!!!

Scarab Sages

Came out a bit darker than I expected. Probably the generic honey I used.

Scarab Sages

Also, it's not as strong as some of my previous meads. That's something I'll have to work on for the next batch.

Scarab Sages

My best ever was still the Spawn Mead - 17%. It had a nice kick.

Scarab Sages

It's beautiful day in the neighborhood. Won't you be my neighbor?

Scarab Sages

In the words of the great Tigger - TTFN!!

Mmmm.......Ta-Tas

Nuh uh! I know what your kind does to their neighbors!

Does he host cook outs for them?

<heads over to the Aberzombie's for a cook out>

It's a trap dude! It's a trap!

Glad you put that in quotes. Because it sure as hell isn't hard to figure out who did what in those episodes.

...where have you been these past few years?

Scarab Sages

Ah, that explains why. I watch very few TV shows, hardly any comedy movies, and I've cut back on my comics reading.

Also, I have finally accepted that there are no more safe zones. No matter where you go or what you do, someone will be there to intrude upon your life with the latest "outrage" or "injustice" or "offensiveness". Nowhere and no hobby is safe. Not gaming. Not sports. Not music appreciation. Hell, probably not even knitting anymore.

Brewing may still be safe, for awhile. I haven't seen any "outrages" yet. Just give the a!%~#!#s time, though.

Scarab Sages

Although, calling people like that a*$~**!s is really an insult to a@*@@##s the world over.

Scarab Sages

I would say "f**!ing losers" but that would be an insult to people who have sex and to losers.

Scarab Sages

On the other hand, I got a bonus check at work. And my supervisor made sure to emphasize that not everyone gets one (very different from gov't service).

So....I must be doing something right.

The life of a stylite might be for you, then.

Pretty much. And people wonder why I'm a hermit.

What's even worse is when "I don't want to hear about it" is taken as tacit approval of whatever the status-quo of whatever the latest thing to be complained about is, which of course just paints a huge bullseye on your forehead for the people doing the complaining.

Provided you don't have issues with heights.

Scarab Sages

Also, my boy is obsessed with wedgies lately. His Halloween costume is a bit tight on him, and I guess it was giving him one, something my wife asked him about. So now, he's constantly asking if anything we show anger or frustration towards has given us wedgies.

Scarab Sages

Time to get busy.

Scarab Sages

Came home to find my boy watching the Star Wars: Rebels movie. He loved it. And it was pretty good.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, today was just kind of crappy.

Sorry to hear that man.

Scarab Sages

And, thank you greenish, bloody phlegm, for letting me know I do indeed have a sinus infection!

Scarab Sages

Because knowing is half the battle!

Scarab Sages

Not too thrilled by the season premier of Supernatural. Demon Dean is really just kind of an a%*&!!!. And Crowley has just sort of become annoying and petty. And way too many plot threads opened up in just one episode.

Scarab Sages

But the latest episode of NCIS was very enjoyable. A nice look back into Ducky's past.

Scarab Sages

Agents of SHIELD was awesome. No surprise there.

Scarab Sages

Tonight, I'll watch the DVR'd premier of The Flash. It was just too late to watch it last night, after my other three shows. But, if it shows promise, I may have to slap it in place of Supernatural as the show to watch that night!

Scarab Sages

Eventually, I'll get back into reading heavily. It's hard though. Most of my favorite authors are dead, so no new stuff from them. Others are not writing as much (Brian Lumley), or showing themselves to be kind of a@%%#@+s and douchbags (Stephen King).

Then there are these young people I've never heard of who get published.....yeah, no thanks. I tried that once when I still collected FR novels. WotC brought in some newbs and I figured what the hell. Big mistake. It was one of the first times I've ever not finished a book.

It's why I don't have a subscription to Pathfinder novels. Too many newbs/people I'm unfamiliar with. My reading time is limited. I won't waste it on potential crap.

Scarab Sages

Oh well, guess it's time to put on my happy face (or at least my "I shall refrain from gutting you with this paper clip" face), and get to work.

Scarab Sages

Oh, wait! I forgot. They're the same face.

You look like you're trying to gut someone with a paper clip. Would you like some help with that?

I'd be surprised...

that's a bit unfair. You never know who's going to be good until you try. I hate FR with a passion, but I love Kemp, Pierson, Byers and DeBie. I have to thank FR for introducing me to their work.

Back when he was working for U.N.C.L.E.?

Yes, it is unfair. But I'm old and cranky and can be that way. I've enjoyed some of the "newer" writers FR introduced me to - Kemp being one of the better examples. But there are others I didn't care much for, such as DeBie.

And it's not to say I might never read a newb. I read and enjoyed Sutter's first book. I have his second, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. But there are several PF books that just haven't appealed to me, partly because I didn't think much of the story synopsis, but sometimes didn't think much of the writer.

I've seen pictures of him from the old series, and the guy they got to play Ducky the Younger has a strong resemblance.

Scarab Sages

So, I watched The Flash TV premier last night. I gotta say, for the most part I liked it. At first I had thought the kid they were getting to play Barry Allen was too young, but after watching him (and checking out his actual age) I think he comes across very well. So, kudos to the casting folks for getting that one correct.

And I loved all the little bits of Flash history dropped into the mix. John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen, the empty Grodd cage, STAR Labs. Detective Chyre (sorry to have seen him killed), Weather Wizard, the hint of Professor Zoom, etc.

Couple of things I had a problem with:

Iris West - WTF?!? She's supposed to be a journalist!! Not a DAMNED waitress!
The Cisco character - I found him to be too young and annoying.
Not sure I liked the Eddie Thawne character, although it would be interesting to see if he actually is Eobard, or just his ancestor.
And I don't think any city in its right mind would also such a facility, and such dangerous experiments, to be located in its downtown. New York maybe.....?

Scarab Sages

I look forward to seeing more episodes, especially if they have actual plans to bring Grodd into the mix. He was always one of my favorite Flash villains from the Wally West days.

Scarab Sages

I also look forward to some of the guest stars, especially William Sadler and Clancy Brown.

Scarab Sages

FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!

Scarab Sages

If it ain't one f&#!ing thing, it's another. Like death by a thousand paper cuts.

Scarab Sages

And, of course it's just in time to ruin my weekend.
