PFS Legal Archetype?

Pathfinder Society

Hi I am a player of pfs and well i have a few questions i usually look into books before purchasing as to know what im getting into and if i really need the book for use in my local game Inner Sea Combat I've looked into has an interesting Archetype for a Ranger that i might be interested in taking called the Sky Stalker i found this from a third party site and always confirm with friends if these things are legal and in the book before purchasing for myself however this time none of my friends own this book and i cannot find specifics of what new archetypes are legal for play i do know however that most of the book is legal i was hoping someone who owns the book or knows someone who does could tell me if it is so i can get the book knowing how little money i have to spend on purchasing these books isnt spent poorly on something that i cant use please and thank you

See additional resources here to see what is legal and what isn't in PFS.

A quick scan reveals:

for Inner Sea Combat.

So the ranger archetypes seem to be legal.

There is no Archetype or Prestige Class called "Sky Stalker" in Inner Sea Combat, but there is the Sable Company Marine, which is what I think you're looking for.

If you are using d20pfsrd.com, your best bet is to stop using it. There are too many to count:

  • Name changes due to copy right such as Sky Stalker
  • Just plain wrong rules edits like adding "Special:" lines that don't exist in the printed book.
  • Shaky interpretations of the rules

Thank you all for your help its just what i needed

I find d20pfsrd to be useful for finding out if something is a thing that I would be interested in, as it shows me which book has what. I have based all my non core purchases up till now on what I've found on there

Archives of Nethys has things listed with their actual names.

Particularly, in this case, the site is somewhat misleading because it displays a version of the hippogriff mount on the archetype's page that is different than the one you can actually select.

Curious about this one. In my experience they've been invaluable at rounding up all the FAQs, and developer posts, and such into the same place as the rules text.

This is correct.

If you look up the archetype on the Archive:
http://www.archivesofnethys.com/ArchetypeDisplay.aspx?FixedName=Ranger%20Sa ble%20Company%20Marine

You'll see a little white symbol before the archetype name: This symbol means that this item or feature is PFS legal.

That being said, the archive is a third party source and could be incorrect, but it is generally the best place to look for your legal options.

d20PFSRD is very useful, but should be used with caution.

The owner of d20pfsrd has stated that they never play PFS, and they do not make any effort to accomotade PFS legality on their site. In several places they change names, and they mix 3PP content with Paizo content.

They have some very useful tools, but it is not a source to use for building a legal PFS character.

Archives of Nethys is more useful for PFS legality, but still, it's a 3PP site and there can be errors (although far less than d20pfsrd).

IF you want to be absolutely certain of what is legal, Additional Resources is the official source.

Silver Crusade

Where would I find a list of playable society legal archetypes. I tried to play pack master but was type that got nerfed due to only being aloud one animal companion. So what about others what's legal for PFS.

As others have mentioned, Archivesofnethys.com is the best website for checking if a material is PFS legal or not. It even has a search function that you can use to eliminate none PFS material from your searches.

HERE is the new link to the Additional Resources page.

Short version :
d20pfsrd is pretty well organized and reasonably searchable, but will have incorrect names due to copywrite issues and will have clearly illegal 3pp material mixed in with standard Paizo material.
archivesofnethys is more difficult to search, but will have things marked with a pfs symbol so you will know it is legal for pfs.
Additional resources is the final authority, but is annoying to search with.

Because all three have issues, I will refer to all three (and possibly other online sources as well) when building a character and leveling up.

And as always, you MUST have the sourcebook where an option appears in, to use that option in PFS. Just a website is not sufficient.

I actually find archivesofnethys the easiest to search.

Their search engine is top notch, and their website layout beats either of the others.

But they don't list rules. For that, the PRD is really the only site you can use.
