That you did.
How to drum up more excitement for the land rush? post a blog about how exciting the land rush is ^.^

Typo in first paragraph: "pepole"

Goblin Squad Member

Sweet!!

Goblin Squad Member

Very exciting, can't wait to get in game and see what you all have been creating! And now for a shameless appeal for all good folks looking for a home to check out the 'guilld' TEO and it's settlement of Brighthaven!

Goblin Squad Member

Are you sure that is the word you want at the first there?

and? 'Cause if it is intentional I will send it out as widely as I can. Otherwise I will hold off just a little while.

Good write up. Should help more people understand what is going on and get interested. However, I didn't see an e-mail go out about it. I did get one on the pending pledge manager shut down, and that too should get a lot of people who have been inactive to look around a bit.

I like the part of the phone call (from another thread) and clarifying what "guild" is (also from another thread), shows how much attention Ryan is giving to our concerns. :)

Goblin Squad Member

Sweet! I hope this message reaches a lot of the Land Rush participants. I know many folks have been hoping for just this sort of message to get sent out.

And is a typo I am not going to fix (it could screw up the URL and various other things). pepole is a typo I will fix. :)

As long as it isn't "peep-hole" - that might confuse people as to what this game is about. o_O

Holding and running a Settlement is going to be something that we expect will require dozens, if not hundreds of members to be successful, so size matters.

I think that "dozens" has a lot of folks breathing a big sigh of relief :)

Because you think people were underestimating or overestimating how big they'll be?

Settlement size will be a function of density. If there are 100 settlements and 50,000 players, it's not unreasonable to expect that the average settlement would have hundreds of players. We hope to get to that point in reasonably short order - maybe 6-12 months....

Could be lots of dozens...

Awesome read, and thanks Ryan, I see the very subtle shout out you did there...

I think people have been underestimating how big they'll be. I'm thinking settlements might almost need to be 120-180 characters just to get control of their 6 adjacent hexes. But there's plenty of time for us to figure out those sorts of mechanics.

Goblin Squad Member

I guess it will just be up to TEO working in Brighthaven to field test that question.

I was (and still am) a bit apprehensive that a settlement would require hundreds to function, and that dozens wouldn't be sufficient.

If a group has 24 active members, can they successfully make the jump to settlement control, or should they realistically expect to be managing a POI instead of a settlement?

Goblin Squad Member

Ryan can you define weeks away? I've been reading it for weeks now, or so it seems :p

Because I think some of the smaller guilds that are currently stakeholders are now looking at growing up to 35+ members "relatively soon" (several months into EE) rather than trying to crack into the hundreds "relatively soon".

I confess, the allure of Maple Syrup and Poutine is not proving as effective as I had hoped....
