Skull & Shackles & Errata

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

I'm not asking this to be negative, but it is an honest question... Is the next campaign going to have significantly fewer mistakes than Rise of the Runelords?

The reason I ask is that I plan on joining guild play, starting at GenCon. My one hesitation is that I really don't want to deal with having to worry about cards needing updates. For example, the BGG errata drop-ins for sleeved cards has (I think) 374 entries counting repeats like Blessing of the Gods. At that scale, I'm actually just ignoring errata and playing cards as written since this game has enough prep work already. However, in guild play, it will just be frustrating, especially if not everyone is up-to-date.

I would think so. To some extent RotR will have served as a large playtest for S&S. All these things about the rules that were discovered from thousands of people playing it should be ironed out.

Plus, I think Paizo has invested more into the editorial process of the game, which should fix some of the "oversight" on the cards. I think their ability to do that comes from the success of the game.

Mistakes can still happen, but I'm expecting great things from S&S.

FYI: The drop-ins have 121 cards (including multiples) with their powers being corrected. There are 3 "styles" for people to choose from, which might make it look larger. That doesn't include cards that just have updates to their traits. And even as their creator, I'd argue most of them are really just clarification (all the blessings for instance). I just made them all because I'm obsessive about it.

I honestly don't get it. Throwing out a huge number like that is immediately invalidated by "counting Blessings of the Gods". There are so few cards that actually need errata written down. BotG's just needs to be remembered "Hey, I can't ever recharge it from the Blessings deck power." Simple. "Ambush is automatically banished when encountered." Yep. A couple of cards need a quick mark on them to fix the Basic, Elite, and non of both. Quick and easy.

There are really so very few cards that need those inserts. Just think of them as one quarter of a page of a rulebook that you need to memorize. For all the crap this game has taken on this very issue, I was shocked that a revered game like Robinson Crusoe has a TWENTY PAGE FAQ!!! Seriously, that blew my mind. So having 10 or so cards that need something to keep track of the errata isn't that big of a deal that tons and tons of people have complained about.

We certainly hope so. Most significantly, we hope it'll have fewer mistakes. I would not rule out the same number of clarifications as people discover side pockets we never considered. But I sincerely hope there are far fewer flat-out errors.

I can tell you that the Pathfinder ACG team has put five solid weeks into proofreading and addressing issues in about 2,000 cards. I'm confident we're better off for that.

Really? I have yet to hear of or find such a large FAQ for Crusoe. Link, please?

@Hawkmoon269: Thanks for the hard work. I apparently didn't look carefully at the file, but I eyeballed it at roughly 15/page and 25 pages.

@Mike: I appreciate the response and your general awareness. I prefer to buy from a company that learns to improve their processes. So based on what you are saying, I've gone ahead and subscribed to PACG.

See you at GenCon!

I think you've made a wise choice. Enjoy GenCon! You can set your subscription so you can pick it up there and have the earliest possible access to it.

Indeed. I hope to meet and hear from you and any other PACG fans at our seminar on Saturday.

Yes—people looking at the FAQ and seeing the "giant list of errata" need to understand that our approach is that if we can make a simple change to a card or a rule in the next printing that prevents people from asking the question, we will, even if the card is not actually wrong, and even if 90% of the people reading the card never even realize that there might be a question there. Many other companies would just issue a FAQ that says "just remember that X works this way." Our FAQ entries each include a resolution that, once applied, helps you remember that.

That was from Tim at GreyElephant Gaming. They had to take down their RC play-through because of several key rules errors, and he posted on FB that he had to download the 20-page FAQ from BGG to make sure he knew all of the rules and correct interpretations thereof.

I found out / was reminded of the existence of said seminar after I had signed up as a helper for PACG Organized Play for that slot. Oh well, someone has to hold down the fort I guess. :)

Well, I appreciate you. :) It's highly likely that you'll encounter various members of the PACG team in room 232 at one point or another.
