The development team would like to look inside your game box once again. Specifically we want a snapshot of what your character looks like after he or she finished Spires of Xin-Shalast. (That is, you've completed the scenario Into the Eye and have gained adventure and adventure path rewards.)

Here is my team Seoni and Lem the dynamic duo. I played Seoni. She died facing Karzoug but Lem raised her. The only time he ever go to use that spell. He almost traded it out. I am so glad he didn't. After he raised me, we beat Karzoug on the next turn! It was our last chance.

We shook up the decks in the last scenario, as I'm sure everyone does. We took all spells for our scenario reward from AP6S5, and it worked out pretty well! We wanted to beef up our combat abilities, because up to this point Seoni only had Lightning Bolt and Blizzard (we found her fireball power sufficient to kill any monster, given that it, with Lem's 1d4+3 buff, had a minimum roll of 14. A blessing was enough to guarantee just about any victory, Pharasma or not.

So Seoni had a heavy scouting deck (2x Scrying, 1x Augury, 2x Wand of Treasure Finding, etc) but it felt more prudent to pick up more cloud and attack spells for the last boss. Lem's deck remained pretty much the same. He swapped out a second Restoration for one of Seoni's Scryings, and the Dominate was another AP6S4 addition (though I don't remember what he ditched for it, it might've been Swipe).

We decided not to "game" the game by optimizing our decks for the final conflict. Instead we kept our decks like they would be if we were going to continue on additional adventures.

For example, we could have ditched the Holy Candle since there is no clock.

Nobody died throughout the entire campaign. In fact, nobody was ever even close to dying except during a few of the early scenarios where we were learning the game. We only lost a scenario 2 or 3 times (definitely twice, but we thought maybe there was a third one in there...hard to remember!).

Our MVC (Most Valuable Card): the Holy Candle. Those extra 1d6 turns enabled us to win several scenarios that otherwise would have been a defeat.

Nobody died, but we timed out A LOT (I think our record was 5 attempts to complete a scenario). Most of the time, it came down to what number Harsk rolled for the Holy Candle - definitely our most valuable card since about adventure 1 or 2. We ditched it at the last for an extra spyglass, as this was our second playthrough, and we wanted everything possible to scry the deck before running into Karzoug.

Don't have the other two since we disassembled the decks but they were:
Harsk as a sniper with 2 spells but no Divine (go figure) he would carry an extra major cure for Kyra.
Seoni as the abyssal sorcerer with +7 to arcane checks. Didn't get the bury/banish an ally to draw 3 cards. She had the ally who can heal and an acolyte pretty much the entire adventure path.


Two person team, no deaths, but had to repeat Approach to thistletop and Them Ogres aint right. The ride became easy with auguries and revelation quill. Holy candle made things quite easy too.

Defeated Karzoug in the first run at 3rd encounter with cards 2-3 cards left on deck, last combat 40 check was just 40.

We had a very good time from september, only problem is the gap between adventure decks.

This was definitely the toughest one - time was rarely a problem, although we did run the clock down once or twice, but there were just so many gaps in our resources - particularly locations we couldn't hope to close - the 3-villain scenario was particularly stupid this respect, as we couldn't even auto-close the location by defeating the villain, as there was generally another one hiding underneath.
We got to the start of Adventure 5 with quite a lot of basic spells in our decks - lightning touches and forces missiles, so gave them all to Meri and spent a few times through trying to pick up better boons before pressing on in earnest.

You did read the scenario card that stated that Karzoug was only defeated if he was the last card in the deck, right? If you just defeated him like a normal villain, you didn't actually win.

Astute viewers will note that my four-hero party is missing a significant member. Sadly, Ezren died on the final scenario of Sins of the Saviours (Into the Runeforge). It was a noble sacrifice, defeating the Highlady Alexis on his last turn and closing the location. Unfortunately, having burned through cards in the combat (all heroes were struggling by the end of this scenario) and failing to recharge his spell, meant he was one card short when resetting. A sad end, but his death meant that the rest of my team were able to go on and defeat the bad guy. I considered resurrecting him but it just didn’t feel right. I wanted his loss to sort of mean something – so I headed into AP6 with my three surviving (and much wiser) characters.

The last scenario was a lot of fun. And lucky for me that Karzoug was the last card in the location deck so I only had to face him once! (About time I had some luck.) The honors fell to Merisiel who, with the aid of blessings and a spell, managed to pummel that final villain into the ground with a whopping (and personal record-breaking) damage score of 68! Take that sucker!


This is a bit different for me. My first try ended in a total team-whipe, but after sleeping over it I realized, I made enough rule-errors to fill a book about how not to play Pacg. So I decided to give Karzoug a fair Chance to beat me and rerun the Adventure, with much better results.
If you consider this Cheating feel free to ignore anything I write here.

And always remember: don't play games at 2 am or you make all the stupid errors you can.

No one died the second try but Harsk and Ezren would have died if I had failed to defeat Karzoug.

As a sidenote: Playing with 6 Characters gives a huge increase in your chance to grab the really good Boons. I feel even greater than your increased need for good Boons. Plus it is easier to get a choice from the Box for your Card Feats.

*Note* We were sad we never got to see so many of the book 5 and 6 boon cards, wish there had been a way to cull lower level boons and banes quicker/sooner. Dropping cards by adventure deck level instead of the basic and elite removal system for example. We could have farmed adventures I suppose, but that didn't seem fair. Maybe our experience was unique, seems a lot of groups had no problem getting mostly higher powered cards into their decks.

Most of the game felt easy, the last half was generally unchallenging. The exceptions were when some of the mid-level encounters which didn't allow direct damage spell-casting. We started using locations for an extra (non-existent) player.

However, the final battle was very difficult. Kyra took enough damage in the final Scenario and was our only death. Seoni was extremely lucky on the final check, and just barely manged to overcome Karzoug.


Poor Karzoug in the first round Valeros hits him with 60 damage and in the second round with 92 damage. Not a lucky roll, just all the things we can put together.
This last battle was all or nothing.
