Will the maps be player friendly (i.e. not show any secret DM stuff) or is it designed mainly for DMs to use when they are preparing the adventure?

Personally, I'd be more interested in a player friendly map.

Assuming you're talking about the regional map, that's a difficult question to answer at a regional scale, since we're not talking about secret doors and traps at that scale. The map will be primarily a GM map but should still be fairly player friendly. It shouldn't show any secret citadels or anything, but most adventure sites tend to be known by local cartographers. It'll show labelled areas but won't have numbers areas.

The Endhome area poster map should be the same one from the original book as far as I know.

I was talking about the Endhome and Wilderness area maps but thanks for your answer Greg! Now I really hope we make it to the regional map stretch goal because that sounds awesome!

Greg A. Vaughan wrote:

I own the original Barakus book, but the reason it is confusing is that the book has two versions of the same Wilderness map, one with tags (p. 58) and one without tags (p. 6).

Oh, and by the way Greg, I love the sample Gulf of Akados Region map that you drew by hand.

That's a good point. I was thinking the poster map that came with Barakus was a wilderness map. I just went back and checked and realized it is the city map that is on the poster! I had forgotten.

So let me revise my early statement:

For the color regional wilderness map, it will be much the same level of detail as on the sample Sword of Air regional map that is linked to the KS update.

For the black and white poster map, my assumptions were incorrect. I don't know what exactly is going to be on it (whether surrounding wilderness or city or what). That is a decision that Bill will make, so I'm not sure.

Sorry about the confusion.

Thank you! And while I appreciate your compliment, let me just assure you that the final version from Robert Altbauer looks A LOT better. My goal on these campaign maps is to channel the old Greyhawk folio maps in their look and feel, and Robert has nailed it. Can't wait for you all to get to see the final versions!

I heard "Greyhawk folio maps" and immediately upped my pledge. Darn you guys and your shrewd sales tactics! Let's chip away all the stretch goals!

Pathfinder Lead Developer, Frog God Games

Guess I should have mentioned it earlier. ;-)

I haven't purchased a FGG title since Rappan Athuk. Has the layout style changed much? Is the font size still incredibly small?

The font size in the original LCoB is perfect, very easy to read. Is the font size going to change with this new version?

Pathfinder Rules Conversion, Frog God Games

Should be the same as all of our recent releases.

I have Sjogrens and have not had any issues reading any of FGG materials, pdf or print. I do increase everything by 125% for screen viewing regardless of source.

Dunes of Desolation

In a land where the sun relentlessly bakes its sandy surface, water is king. In the desert, the life-sustaining fluid is more valuable than the most precious metals, desirable gems and mightiest weapons. Most adventurers believe that the scarcity of water makes the desert an
inhospitable place devoid of life, riches and challenges.

The incessant glare of a distant, roiling inferno, the intolerable heat of day, the monotonous expanses of sand and the fierce winds are enough to break the will of any man or beast, but natives and experienced adventurers know that the dunes conceal many secrets and treasures. Scratch a few feet beneath the surface and the wondrous ruins of lost cities miraculously come to life. Some of these settlements succumbed to the natural forces of the desert, while vengeful deities, demons or spirits condemned others to an eternity beneath the dunes.

Marvelous oases abounding with life and mystery also dot the forbidding landscape. Those fortunate enough to discover these refuges are delighted to find fresh water, but danger often lurks amid the lush vegetation or beneath the surface of the water. Those intrepid souls hardy enough to brave the elements and explore the wonders of this harsh terrain are well-rewarded for their efforts

Ok guys, goes on sale in July. Backers of this product can get the pdf of it early (on the survey) as well as a hardcover sourcebook on release. ONLY Barakus Kickstarter backers get this--and you get the pdf a couple months before everyone else.

This is how it works: On the survey (but not before), you can add the Dunes book for $16.95 pdf or $34.95 hardcover plus pdf. It will ship with your copy of Barakus. The pdf will be available within a few days of you completing your survey, and the hardcover in August.

The book itself will release at Paizocon in limited numbers (don't want to make anyone mad because a few people got it a few days earlier), but those guys don't get the pdf. After that, the actual book releases to the general public the same day that we start shipping Barakus.

Another note--This book is in Pathfinder rules. There is not really a S&W version (in S&W, lots of rules are kind of off base). Whether or not its of value to SW players is up to you (I think it is, but acknowledge there is a lot of material that is not SW (e.g. feats and skills).

It also includes adventures set in the Lost lands, as well as very well researched material by Tom Knauss on desert ecology and survival. Is it a secret we timed this with Paizo's desert themed AP? I think not!

I have run four one off days in RA. The most recent of those was what my family referred to as Keller Con 2014. Most of my kids and there spouses got together to try and survive the Mouth of Doom (S&W style). All of these games have been a lot of fun and it has all been in the Mouth of Doom...

When I finish up my Serpent Skull Campaign (start chapter six in a week or two - after about three years of Serpent Goodness) I plan to start a new campaign.

ALL LOST LANDS ALL THE TIME.... RA, Tsar, Barakus, Stoneheart Valley, maybe some Black Monastery thrown in for the fun of it. Keep it all coming...

I hope to run this material for years to come and leave my other group to continue through Paizo APs, maybe Mummy's Mask.

I'm pretty much a Lost Lands convert also - I've always loved Necro material and used it, but now I'm "all in" just like you Shem.

That's all I plan on running going forward with D&D (whatever rule set) - plus some Raging Swan Pres material (to keep with the 2nd ed AD&D feel).

I can't remember being as excited about a campaign release since IDK when, 20-30 years ago? And they haven't even announced a date yet.

That KS is going to break me.

Scarab Sages

Same for me, Auxmaulous. My new campaign will be set in the Lost Lands, though timing-wise I willbe starting it prior to the SoA completion (i.e. can't wait to get started!)

Presently running my Friday group through Legacy of Fire, but I asked what they wanted to do after we finish. That's not going to happen for another 18 months or so as we are just starting book 4. I suggested RA and they agreed that a "Killer Dungeon" would be just the thing.

Publisher, Frog God Games

RA is the mother of all dungeons..or the granddaddy if you will. Not sure anything is actually bigger or more white box.

It's thread discussions like these that got me into this kickstarter in the first place. I've never played/run any FGG or Necromancer Games material ever. I've always homebrewed and my current setting is closer to Midgard by Kobold but my players were getting bored with both my style and the "dark fairy tale" kind of theme. They're all old school gamers so I decided to homebrew my first megadungeon in years.

In researching I inevitably came upon RA. I am also old in the gaming hobby and RA started pulling those primal chords in my memory. Unfortunately I didn't have the dough to grab a copy but I found myself continuing to search ALL of FGG's stuff with that same heady mix of nostalgia and inspiration.

Then fortunes for my family changed a little over a month ago. The first thing I did was start evaluating my initial frog purchase. At the same time I caught sight of this upcoming kickstarter. Hearing you guys in this thread and others going on about FGG, reading about their stuff for months and now having the opportunity to buy into the material myself; its really psyching me up for my games!

I don't know if I'll end up purchasing the whole lost lands setting, but I know I'm saving a little from each paycheck to pad my kickstarter contribution for that big huge book of old school madness called Rappan Athuk. That and Barakus alone will probably be enough for half a decade of gaming.

TL/DR. Bottom line: I think in me you've got a convert FGG. If I'm ever out west or at one of the bigger cons I'd love to meet some of the Frogs in person, if nothing else than just to shake one of your hands and thank you for re-igniting that fire that smolders in all gamers for epic adventure.

The pdf will be $2.50 more and the book $5 more post kickstarter

Things seemed to have stalled. We need about $10,000 to free of the regional map.

Come on folks let's get the map.

I know adding stuff on during the KS lets them take a cut, but I think a big part of the stall is that all of our 'discounted book add-ons' that we just unlocked are going on post-funding. We'd skyrocket past the last few stretch goals if there were something to add on during the KS.

Speaking of the add-on's, Bill, will we know ahead of time what books will be discounted and by how much? Trying to work out my budget. Thanks!

Scarab Sages

We definitely need to reach the color map. Iconics and the color map are the last stretch goals we have left to achieve. We can do this!

For existing pledges, don't forget to add in money for HeroLab files, b/w map of Endholme + wilderness, and for the color map (presumes we reach that stretch goal....we will!) for those that want these items.

Dark Archive

I'm maxed out on KS right now - came in this as a herald early on and I've already added everything else in for the maps (pdf and maps).

Maybe we need a 10 or 15 dollar Lost City of Barakus exclusive module? Could be something similar to what they did with RA's bonus KS exclusive level 7B or the print only module included in the back of the Slumbering Tsar (Sleeping Dogs)? I think a separate module might make more sense vs. adding it in the book but I don't know about the pricing differences.

It would add to page count and there would be labor involved to create the content, but I think something like that would drive the number of people jumping in on this.

I would love to see a large urban dungeon/adventure in Endhome or maybe another lost level in Barakus or another dungeon location associated with Barakus (much like what Thule was to Atlantis).

This would be useful. I'm not so interested in Barakus but I am interested in a bunch of FGG pdfs.

I am still working through added shipping costs on the ones that weigh a ton (e.g. Tsar)--pdfs will also be offered. The goal here is all Lost Lands stuff on the survey--some older stuff will be highly discounted. I want to help Canadian/Overseas folks get a deal on shipping.

Hmm so if I go back now and add some $$ for HL files it will help unlock the map?

Publisher, Frog God Games

yes

Need....more...recruits...

You said it A bomb. Where are we going to find $10k in another week and a half? What if everyone that's pledged already, besides Auxiliary that is, kicked in an extra $12.70? We'd knock it down, everyone gets a map, and we're all winners! Either that or 500 new recruits all come in at $20 so they can get the PDF and some extra files.

Or else we get one REALLY motivated collector. I'm lookin at you 1%.

I'm good for 12.70.

Layout and Design, Frog God Games

In all honesty, guys, we'd rather have the "new recruits". We're more looking to spread our brand with this Kickstarter than anything else.

Well C-dub, you got 2 new ones last night. Plus me that's at least 3 noobs to FGG. Probably more, but at least 3. C'mon, 1%!

well, Kicktraq shows it trending towards 65k+, so that's a good thing for all of us :)

fwiw, in the last hours of the last day the CSotIO blew past their projections...

So I remain optimistic :)

I have a question.

"$40,000 Black and White Double-Sided map of Endhome and the Local Wilderness Area (UNLOCKED) This Black and White map shows the locations within Endhome one one side, and on the reverse is the local Wilderness Area. (Add-On price $4 each for physical copy, $2 each for PDF copy)"

Does the fact that the goal was reached just mean the maps are created? Does the Add-on price still apply?

Yes, the add on price applies. The maps would not even have been available for add on until they reached the 40K goal. The same is true of the color maps a their goal.

Scarab Sages

Sorry, forgot to mention the player's guide as an add-on item. I'm planning to add a few to make it easier to share around the table.

"Add $5 per player's guide for softcover (price goes up to $10 after the Kickstarter.)"

Fine, I'll keep my $12.70 :p

jk, I at least have to add in enough for hero lab files.

Was it the LAST day that this thing is supposed to smash the last goal? Seriously, anyone who's casually browsing through and is mildly interested should go to page 3 of this thread. Halfway down is a link in one of Skeeter's posts. Follow it, watch the video, then get out your cards 'cause you'll want to throw in at least $15 (or more depending on where you live). This project is that good and its FGG.

Publisher, Frog God Games

We only need 8 grand to get the maps in 8 days--the last couple days are often pretty big.

You guys can help by getting the word out!

This may be the best "meet the Lost Lands" book we will make--so new folks who want a taste of what we do can get a relatively cheap buy in.

Maps costs a fortune to make--if for some bizarre reason we do not get there--have no fear, we will make the maps later.

That is great Bill but I want it NOW!!!

Sorry, I am not the most patient game nerd around.

Here is hoping for $8,000 more...

Publisher, Frog God Games

I am sure there is. The text is all to edit/layout already. Think bacon...

Layout and Design, Frog God Games

The Swords & Wizardry text is to layout (me), the Pathfinder text will take a tad bit longer, but we're hoping it will be to me by mid-week.

Wow, not quite Scarlet Heroes, but a tad better than some other KS I am still waiting on!
