If the light went out you would ask what?

Off-Topic Discussions

So I have this idea swirling through my head like so much smoke. So I wanted to ask normal folks... Or as close to normal as I can get ;)

If the light went out and the world was cloaked in unending night what would be the first questions about the situation, either on a personal level or world level, to come to your mind?

Dark Archive

How can this be undone? While we don't see the sun often hereabouts, it would be a shame if the auld sky fire demon was gone forever.

How screwed are we? Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis, right? No sun means lots of dying plants, means no fruit and veg, means no foodstock for animals.

Does it mean I get night shift wages all the time? Cause that ain't too bad. :D

Strangely, why did it happen only came to mind after all of the above. You'd think one would be more concerned with why something happened. :P

Sovereign Court

Oh crap, freeze.

The Exchange

it would suck long term but i would love the first few days

I would ask myself "How do I get to somewhere with lots of geothermal activity fast?"

The American government would ask "Which terrorist group did this and which country do we invade?"

My own brain did go to the plant question Lordsynos.

"Who forgot to pay the deity-accursed sun bill again? I took care of it last month."

I'd be too busy saying goodbye to friends and family to be asking questions.

Liberty's Edge

What d-bag didn't do his job three months ago on solstice?

The Exchange

Does this mean I never get to wear sunglasses again?

If it was all of the sudden? Most likely, the first question in my head would be "What's going on?".

If it was then confirmed to be permanent, probably would ask family and friends to organize a trip to one of the 400 volcanoes we have in this place and learn to live near a source of heat, since things are gonna get chilly soon.

"Is that a flashlight you just poked me with, or should I be worried?"

If the sun just up and vanished, my first question would be "oh crap, how long before the shock wave wipes the Earth from the universe?"

If we, in fact, do not end up getting obliterated, the follow up would be "what the #$%! happened? is it too late to invest in geothermal power? where can I get as many grow lights as possible? what do you mean 'I've got the gun, so I make the rules'?"

What the heck could do that? Its like i'm stuck in an utterly implausible science fiction premise...

Who let Yellowdingo play with cosmic powers?

I don't know, replacing the sun with a giant mango doesn't seem crazy enough for that scenario.

"What just happened?"

Wasn't there a guy in the late 90's that travelled around the world giving seminars about a "Photon Belt" that supposedly raced across the universe at huge speed interfering with the fow of light or something like that? His theory that it would cross the Solar System soon and cause the Sun's light to become so difuse we would be in total darkness.

I would think that the world had succumbed to the darkness within us all, like that twilight zone episode.

I would punch nothing so hard it exploded into a new sun to light the world again.

On the bright side (or is it?), with everything being dark, no one will notice if you don't paint your minis!

DO THE IMPOSSIBLE SEE THE INVISIBLE TOUCH THE UNTOUCHABLE BREAK THE UNBREAKABLE

Things to happen in the event of the light going out:

Panic, riots, marshal law, food rationing, opportunistic invasion, doomsday cults, and outbreaks of wanton debauchery.

Also, the more industrialized nations' governments setting up massive grow lights to keep some form of food production going.

Assuming the planet is still on its same gravitational course, besides massive dust clouds what could cause such a blackout?

Wake me at noon.

Are you ready?

Excellent. The long night would grow lonely with too many sheep and too few shepherds.

"Hey, who turned out the light?"

The mind flayers have extinguished the sun!

I have long held a fascination with wondering how humanity would die off. My assumption is that we wipe ourselves out in war using some kind of country destroying weapon. The final human to die will be the one on the international space station who finally plunges himself out of an airlock rather than suffocate slowly on board.

I suppose if the sun went out I'd then wonder if he would sooner now, since (I believe?) the space station runs on solar power. Or would it have enough energy to last while humanity died out on Earth.

Dark Day?
I would wonder where CJ Carella is and if he was laughing or wondering "oh crapy, why did I ever write for Palladium?" (well, more so than usual).
