Hey folks, pre-registration & event submission is open for Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio June 11th - 15th.

Did you get frozen out of GenCon because the hotels sold out within 24 hours? Origins is the next best thing in the Midwest. Don't think about it too long, discount hotel rates are available to those who pre-register but they aren't going to last long! Rumor has it that over 200 PFS events will run at Origins this year. I'm sure that the local PFS leadership will have more to say on this, I'm just trying to give a head's-up 'cause pre-reg opened a few hours ago. Don't get left out in the cold!

[event submission closes March 1st - cough cough]

Just secured a room. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Do we have a VC organizer for Origins this year? If so, will there be a call going out for tier one judges, or whatever we are calling them? Are tier one judges eligible for a free-shared room and badge? If so, should they register/pay for a badge now or wait? Just wondering what the convention coordination looks like for this year.

4/5

Bob, Mike McNerney, VC of Ohio organized Origins last year. I know the call is coming out soon.

Silver Crusade 4/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thanks Doug for starting off this thread! Origins 2014 GM Registration is live! Please go to Origins GM Application to sign up. 4 GM slots will earn you a badge while 7 GM slots will earn you a badge and 1/4 hotel room. For those who GM at least 7 slots but don't want/need the hotel room, we are looking into alternate rewards.

We have a lot of fun events planned for this year and we will need even more GMs then last year to accomplish our goal of 250 tables. As we get closer to Origins, I will share more of what we have planned. What I can share now is that we will once again be holding our annual Goblin Bash on the Sunday of Origins aka the last day of the con. We will be expanding it from WBG I & II to also include Frostfur Captives, Rise of the Goblin Guild, and the PFS portion of Rise of the Runelords Burnt Offerings. One of the fun events we are looking at running but will require more GM commitment is holding our first annual Midnight Madness event. This is our first attempt to have an organized Midnight Madness event and we will have some goodies set aside for those that choose brave it. All we need are some crazy GMs willing to stay up late. This would take place 12:30 am Saturday. We will also be running Pathfinder Society Special: Siege of the Diamond City on Saturday night. Last year we had Sheila Heidmarch visit all the way from her Manor in Magnimar. Who knows who will show up this year. This is especially true since Origins theme this year is Monsters!

The Origins Media guest of Honor this year is Alaina Huffman who currently appears on Supernatural. Make sure and sign up to GM and be apart of the fun. See you all at Origins in June!

And signed up. Had a blast last year, look forward to running again this year!

Silver Crusade 4/5

Netopalis, glad you will be able to join us again. The plan for this year is even bigger and better!

For those who haven't' signed up yet, go to Origins GM Application to sign up. Don't forget by signing up to GM, you can earn a free badge, hotel stay, a special boon and other goodies!

Hmm, I missed the guest of honor. I liked her work on SGU. Not a big supernatural fan, though I wanted to see more of her. (Yes, in both senses of the term)

Maybe I'll make my will save to venture elsewhere this year.

Matthew: If we want to go old tv shows, try one called Painkiller Jane. Plot was weird, Dialogue ugly, but there she was.

Silver Crusade 4/5

Painkiller Jane was definitely weird at times. Thanks Matt and Michael for signing up!

Are we doing Diamond City for the special this year?

Silver Crusade 4/5

We will be running Siege of the Diamond City on Saturday night of Origins. We are looking into how to make it even more fun then what we did with Race for the Runecarved Key the previous year.

Scarab Sages 5/5

What are you gonna stick Vince in this year?

4/5

Why queen galfrey

Silver Crusade 4/5

Vince and I are strategizing on who will make an appearance this year. Perhaps someone else not in the scenario will show up.

Dark Archive 5/5

i applied...

almost at my 4th star...

5/5

Applied, hopefully I will get approved :) if I don't make it my GF will have murdered me...

Silver Crusade 4/5

Thanks wellsmv and Chris for applying! Still plenty of open spots for those interested. There are a lot of fun events planned so sign up to GM and get a Boon, a badge (4 slots min) and even a shared hotel room(7 slots min).

Sovereign Court 5/5 RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Note, no one has to share a hotel room with me... I go home every night :P

Silver Crusade 2/5 *

Question: when are events going to be posted? And if we volunteer to GM, how do we get badges to be able to sign up for our non-GM slots?

Doug, this is the Origins thread, not the GenCon thread.

As for origins schedules, I think I had mine last year after I had my GenCon schedule. Events were posted a month before if I recall correctly. Before the events open, we'll get an email saying how to claim our badge through Origins' online system.

The Exchange 5/5

Crap-Spackle! [Deleted post to cover evidence]

Silver Crusade 4/5

PFS at Origins is still in need of GMs. Don't miss out on all the fun. GM 4 slots and earn a special boon and a GM Badge. Up that to 7 slots and get a share of the hotel room as well. Go to Origins GM Application to sign up!

For those already signed up, typically at the end of April/beginning of May I will receive the information on GM registration. I will then send that information to the GMs. Event registration will be sometime after that for those that want to play as well. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me at ohiopfs@gmail.com.

Thank you :)

Plan your vacation now for Origins and while you are there, GM 4 games and get in free!

Hey guys, I know I'm late to the game but I'm looking for a hotel room close to the con (preferably the Drury or the Hyatt). Anyone know of a forum / thread online that is for room transfers?

Paizo Employee Publisher, Chief Creative Officer

I will be at Origins again this year! I am hoping to sneak in more than a single session this year, though I will be resorting to generic tickets as I did not preregister.

Hope to see some of you there!

You should happen to walk through the middle of the PFS room while I'm running Eyes of the Ten Part 1 like you did last year. It's really convenient to go "And there's the author who wrote this encounter that almost killed you all" right after running the first encounter.

3/5

OK, there is a strange alignment of the stars going on. It looks like going to origins would only be a one hour detour (and hotel) from a trip I'm taking to Pennsylvania. So .... since pre-reg is closed, are there any spots still open for the Eyes of the Ten tables? Oh, and on the other extreme, does it look like you have enough tickets sold for a table to go off?

Sovereign Court 4/5 5/5 ***

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I have no clue about Eyes of the Ten right now - according to the prereg system (and assuming that the number displayed is the number of tickets remaining), Part 1 has 3 people, Part 2 has 4, Part 3 has 5, and Part 4 has 3. *throws hands up in the air*

Swiftbrook I would send an email to McNerny directly ohiopfs@gmail.com

I hope EoT goes off. Otherwise that Reign of Winter table will be at least one person short that Saturday. :(

Hi Erik,

I have an extra room at the Hyatt that I'm looking to transfer off to someone. I have one girl who is interested but I'm leary... if she doesn't want it, do you? -Ginny

Is there a list of the PF Society events that will be running at Origins?

Yes, I went to the origins site and downloaded an event spreadsheet.

It looks like we could use a few more Adventure Card Game demo volunteers. If you haven't signed up as a volunteer yet, and are interested, please email me and Ohio VC Mike McNerney.

I'll be there for Eyes of the Ten, if I can figure out how to get this spreadsheet to show me nothing but Paizo stuff.

Part of this weirdness in numbers is that I'm only playing in parts 2 and 3. (I've played part I and I'm GMing Friday night during Part IV.)

I suspect that the table will fill itself out with on-site registration, but at least those two parts have the requisite 4 to run it seems.

Ah, that explains a lot.

However, it sounds like between the interest in the thread and the tickets already bought, it will be going off. (Which is good. I am a fan when the slots I'm scheduled to GM go off.)

Hi. I'll be at Origins with some friends who are new to Pathfinder (but not 3.5), and play the ACG.

Can you explain the specifics of the Beginner Box and Goblin Attack events?

Do new players need to bring anything (or purchase a Beginner Box) to participate? Our intent is to do some demos and intro scenarios on Friday and participate in some of the more structured lower level events Saturday.

I'm one of the people running the Goblin Attack event. You won't need anything of your own to play in either of these events (Goblin Attack or Beginner Box), as pregenerated characters will be available and the GM does all the prep-work. If you have some of your own dice, you can use those, but even if you don't I'm sure you can borrow some from the GM.

When you finish the scenarios, you'll be given a chronicle sheet which you can use to apply to a newly-created Pathfinder Society character if you enjoyed yourself during these demo scenarios, so I would make sure to have a backpack or at least a folder to keep these safe in for the rest of the con.

Edit: As far as specifics on the Goblin Attack, it consists of up to 5 short (less than one hour) scenarios that are meant to introduce players to combat in the Pathfinder RPG. They're fun little scenarios that should be good for all ages.

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ****

I attended Origins for the first time this year, ran 3 slots, and worked in HQ for 4 slots (first time working HQ at a con.)

First, I have to say, Michael McNerney runs a top notch operation! Things were well-organized, and what problems popped up were handled quickly and effectively.

Second, I was asked to sit at a table during one of my HQ slots because the table needed a 4th player. When I sat down, who should be sitting at the table but Erik Mona and Jason Bulmahn! I cannot tell you how cool it was to play a Society game with them. I'll admit - it was all a fanboyish experience for me, and it was a ton of fun! I'll never forget the look on Jason's face when he discovered that the BBEG in a Tier 1-5 scenario (we were playing subtier 1-2) had both SR and DR! (I had run the scenario before, so I knew what it was.) Very cool gaming experience, which was all too short, in my opinion.

Third, I ran Siege of the Diamond City on Saturday night, and at my table of 7 players, there were three boys, all of whom were under 11 or 12. When Erik and Jason went around the room passing out some promo material, the kids got their autographs, and one got them in his Character Record portfolio, along with a handwritten comment by Erik. That made that kid's night. Such a great thing to do, guys!

At any rate, I met some great people (a VO and some GMs from my own state who I hadn't met, some great players and VOs from elsewhere) and had a great time.

Great job, Mike and crew - I'll try to come back next year!

Silver Crusade 2/5 RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

I had a great time as well, and agree that Michael did a great job running the PFS area. I ran 3 PFS scenarios as well as the Goblin Attack demos, and I had a TON of fun!

5/5

I'll echo the comments above. It was another excellent convention, and kudos goes out to Michael and his HQ staff for organizing a ton of tables in the limited time given.

This was my second year going, and the organization of the playing has been handled extremely well both years. If you ever want to spend 5 days doing nothing but gaming, I can't recommend Origins strongly enough.

Looking forward to next year!

Lantern Lodge 4/5 5/5 ****

This was my first year too and I will echo the accolades for Michael and the HQ staff! He ran a tight ship. This was a delightful con to both GM and play in and I hope we see even more people in 2015! I'll be back to GM for sure. Most likely you'll see my not-so-mini-me sons on the other side of the screen next year too!
