My question is more centered on "words" that are used in the entries. Have you come across anything that you didn't know what it was and therefore had to look it up?
Or
Did you get a new perspective from a word or idea that you might have always thought used one way that the item allowed you to venture into new areas with?
I have found a few combinations of words put together (especially in the names of items) I never thought would go together. That doesn't mean they are wrong just interesting use of language.
Was curious in your adventures in voting have you found any of these also?
Ok these are a few things to discuss.. good things to look at verses the item itself. I know a few items have educated me on some cool new words.

I've had to look up a couple words, actually. Both are in items I really like (one I've seen only once or twice, and would not be at all shocked to see in the Top 32; the other I've upvoted a number of times but don't really expect to make it).
I like when I learn new words; I actually give a lot of credit to gaming for my vocabulary in general and doing so well on the SATs back in the day.

I learned two new words -- one was a kind of seed and the other a kind of warrior.
I also learned that other GMs must give out a lot more cash than I'm used to. I've never seen a character with more than about 50k gold. Even the ones who were so high powered they were essentially demigods. (Although in those games good magic items are essentially priceless.)

The crafting rules end up making even fairly simple items seem very expensive. There's some inherent problems there I think, but I cannot brain how to fix it.
If you're trying to stick to Pathfinder's guidelines as closely as possible, an average 10th level PC will have 62,000 gp worth of gear (which also of course accounts for the expensiveness of items). Mind, at high levels, it's sometimes a challenge to find appropriate places to drop that kind of gear.
As to the OP, I've learned I will probably never come up with the sort of "it" creative concept that generally is superstar for the wondrous item level.
Oh, new words? Not really, but I haven't had a lot of time to vote now that I'm back to work after the holiday/snow day. I did discover a few non-core spells I'd not been aware of before, if that counts for anything.

I have honestly had to look up a few words which I was happy to do. I got to learn not only about the item but the history/background of the word which more than helped me associate the item better. Clever crafters we have here.. lol
I also have seen some words put together that seem to not fit. Oddly enough, that made me recall the item better. (I still scratch my head thinking about the wordplay of the item but its a mind worm.)
Lastly spells.. wow Hydrolics have come into their own! Everything has it but a magical toliet! LOL
I had never researched that spell nor had a player cast it before so it's nice to get some new spells into the mind.
Great feedback folks..

Learned two new words. That's always a plus.
Also learned that if you read the same word over and over often enough, it ceases to have meaning and becomes an annoying noise.

Guess I need to work on that 'Tureen of Endless Marzipan' idea.
(in-joke for anyone around since Dungeon 131)...
For some reason when I read this, rather than picture almond paste, I pictured the character Marzipan from Homestar Runner standing in the middle of a shallow bowl looking pissed off.

One of my favorite words related to hair is "hoary"
1. white with age: describes hair that has become white or gray with age2. covered with pale hairs: covered with gray or white hairs

My brother is the definition of hirsute. :D
I learned... that if I ever want to be in the competition again, I'm going to have to put at least two weeks of work into it, and not two hours. The competition is that strong now. ;p
If I do chance to get in this year, I'm making time for it: Quitting my job, breaking up with my girlfriend, releasing my cats into the great outdoors, and feeding myself creamed corn through an IV.

Don't forget to blackout all your windows, or the outside world will distract you at some point. Plus you'd have to look at that stupid ball of flame in the sky doing its cyclic thing...

I've learned that the lure of the vote is too strong to ignore, even when you should be doing much needed monster practice. Only the posting of the Round 2 rules was enough to snap me out of it.
I feel good about round 2. I have my idea, the template and about 90% of the idea fleshed. Just waiting to see what happens with Round 1.
Crazy how I'm still seeing a new item every now and then. Thought by now I would have gone through them all at least once.

I heard aluminum foil does wonders for this. Make sure you also make a hat from it as well so people dont steal your ideas with secret NSA mind-reading technology.

I can completely agree. Between a freelance project, my day job and voting I have failed to do much more than conceptualize a round two entry.
Fortunately (but only in the context of RPG Superstar) for me we'll be finished closing my Blockbuster location in the next 3 days and I should have plenty of time for the competition after that.
