Here I present to you a database to add all the items that you see and have survived the cull.
Please use it responsibly.
that means
- Do not edit or erase entries made by other users
- Only add items you will see from now on
- be sure to not write in a cell where someone else is writing(also, you don't need to use the first free cell, you can write wherever you want in the first column)
- Always use a free cell in the first column so that we can sort it in an alphabetical order
- If the rows are finished add more rows (the button is at the end of the sheet)
- Do not give indication about your item
- Entry the item via copy and paste to make sure is spelled correctly
I hope everybody will use it correctly as a tool to discover the item that have survived and the actual number of survivors.
I could be wrong but calling out the specific names of items might be going too far into the 'do not discuss items until voting is over' area. Even if your not talking about them.
246 items in less than 10 minutes.
As you may notice I'm deleting the items that are entered twice and putting the items in alphabetical order.
Be sure to write in a free cell, possibly try to always write in a free cell near the bottom so you don't risk to find yourself in a filled one when i sort the items alphabetically.
When the entries will be enough it will probably be more practical to check the list for the items before adding a new entry since most of the items will be already on the list.
Have fun voting and good luck finding your item in the list
Thanks for the effort. I considered doing something like this, but I somehow felt that it might run afoul of DQ. Plus I just assumed Paizo owned all these item names as part of the submission to the contest.
It seems to me that part of the voting mechanism is to have entrants keep voting until they see their item ;) At least that's how I made Marathon voter!

EDIT: Thanks, Sean!

I think this is fine.
(Runs off to randomly rename items, just ta mess with people...)
Curaigh wrote: I could be wrong but calling out the specific names of items might be going too far into the 'do not discuss items until voting is over' area. Even if your not talking about them. umh... I think something similar has been done the last year.
Of course if the judges say it causes a problem the list gets obliterated but I don't see how as long as no indication of quality or identity of the creator are given.

Admit it, you just wish your sword of killing Hitler made it into the list.

The list last year was posted between voting close and top 32 reveal as I recall, I could be wrong though as my wife often tells me ;)

With Sean's endorsement, that should help you with people's willingness to add to the file.

My urge to playfully vandalize this is under control. ;p
Thanks a lot! It's a nice tool for making my own personal top 32.

What about the items that have the exact same name but are different entries? I see one listed in the database, but not both.
And yes, they BOTH made it through the cull. Go figure.

Add the one that's missing, but be sure you add the right one. It would be silly to have one of them listed twice.

Well, the problem is they have the same name EXACTLY. So if duplicates are being removed, it will continue to appear only once.

I made reference to said items the other day. They do a darn similar thing, but slightly differently, and with different spell requirements.

why not just put a (ii) after one of the names

Have seen each since, and made sure to note there were stylistic and requirement differences.
Interesting. Though I watched one person add their huge list to this database in the first few minutes of the thread, I'm not sure how many others have done the same. I expected to see a larger number of items. Given this data, I expect the Top 32 should represent somewhere in the ~4-7% range of post-cull items. I guess we don't know how many were dropped in the cull, but now I've got a better idea of how many entrants there were. (I initially figured Top 32 was more like 1-2%)
I haven't been watching this contest for very long. How many entrants were there in, say, 2008?
There's more than one item with the same name, add the word count to any metallic parts that go in the mouth all 4 survived the cull I believe

And for ever more the people will wonder, "Which one got the (ii)?" ;)
I'm only a Dedicated voter so far, but I sent ScarletRose 5 items I have seen post cull that weren't listed, so I daresay quite a few are missing, as I haven't even been keeping complete track of them.

And for ever more the people will wonder, "Which one got the (ii)?" ;) Obviously the inferior one of the two items.

I'm not sure I had noticed there were two of those.

With the list it makes the fact that a lot of item start with
Cloak of _____
Gloves of ____
More visible
They removed 20% with the cull. Using the 800-1000 estimate, that means that 640-800 items survived.
Up to about 419 items in the list.

Ok, I added my share from my Marathon adventures. Taking out the duplicates that were already there, it amounted to about 50-60 new items.
Hopefully after the voting we can compile a book of all the entries. I'd be game to editing it and printing it with permission from the submitters and Paizo. There's some good stuff here. Definitely more than 32 at any rate.
If nothing else, I wouldn't mind seeing this database updated afterwards with the usernames of the entrants so they can be contacted by interested third party publishers.

Bummer.
::edit:: I wonder, since I can actually PRINT them, if Paizo would be willing to do it like it is under Wayfinder, where they set the price and hold the copyright.

Your best option is likely to grab the text of any items that strike your fancy while voting, and compiling them in a pdf for personal use.

Nine more items added. (I didn't preserve any all-caps formatting in those item names.)
I don't have a google account and I block google cookies, so I can't view this spreadsheet.
Anyone want to take my list of 508 unique and tell me the ones I'm missing? ;-)
You've just made my blood pressure return to something resembling normal - my item is there! Thankyou!
I don't work tomorrow, so why not?
Ping me with a PM & if you want, we'll trade emails.
I plan on voting like mad tomorrow, that gives me something between the timer if there isn't an item I have not seen.
I will make Marathon, or die trying!
(Or pull a Pheidippides and die right after)
I've often wondered about the significance of there being a dip in the middle of Pheidippides.
@James Risner - As of right now, you have a couple that the list does not. And that was just looking while my son was at drum lessons. I will do a side by side comparison tomorrow.
Feros wrote: Well, the problem is they have the same name EXACTLY. So if duplicates are being removed, it will continue to appear only once. I'm embarrassed to admit I had the wrong items in mind. While nearly identical, one is the A of the B, and the other is B A. So not identical names.
Amy Gillespie wrote: @James Risner - As of right now, you have a couple that the list does not. And that was just looking while my son was at drum lessons. I will do a side by side comparison tomorrow. Cool thanks
I'll text you the new ones I get tomorrow.
I've gotten 3 since I sent you that list.
Someone else sent me the list, so I diffed it and sent Amy the 34 I didn't have and the 60 I had the list didn't have.

The (ii) items, I'd make the second ones the larger word count versions. And put the word count in each. I've seen both and can give wordcount for each.
*checks list*
Only about ten item names are not familiar between both lists.
Either I am tired, or my eyes should be bleeding.
Will do a more thorough merge tomorrow.
And ... there shows up one of those items. No, never saw you before.
And I like you, to boot! (There is no pun here)
After another 300 votes since first adding to the DB I only added 7 new items. We may be narrowing in on the total list.
x93edwards wrote: After another 300 votes since first adding to the DB I only added 7 new items. We may be narrowing in on the total list. 508 seems low as a total, and even so there are some duplicates on the list.
Zahir ibn Mahmoud ibn Jothan wrote: 508 seems low as a total, and even so there are some duplicates on the list. There are 33 I don't have and 517 I do have (some are being integrated by Amy because I don't have Google access.)
So the total known right now when done should be 550.
