In case anyone missed it, the New Paths Compendium from Kobold Press has now officially been announced :)
The New Paths Compendium collects all the New Paths classes into a brand new print/pdf book with a completely new layout and organization - the classes themselves are all together in a Classes chapter, all the archetypes and spells get their own chapters, as do all the feats (close to 100 of 'em!)
In addition, there are a number of cool, brand-new things inside - 2 of which are exclusive to this book!
The popular savant class from the pages of Kobold Quarterly, completely updated and expanded!
A brand-new spell-less ranger variant class, the skin-changer! That's right, instead of a favored enemy and animal companion, the skin-changer can shapeshift into animal form (using a specialized form of wild shape called animal shape) right out of the gate at first level! He also gets a specialized type of combat style, called Animal Combat that makes the skin-changer one heck of a combatant when in animal form
Last but not least, the theurge, a base class that combines arcane and divine in new and interesting ways!
New Paths Compendium includes:
- 28 new archetypes for monks, ninjas, gunslingers, barbarians, fighters, clerics, and 7 Compendium classes
- 7 tracking sheets for animal companions, favored enemies, prepared spells, summoned monsters and more
- 20 new spells for druids, rangers, shaman, and more
- Almost 100 new feats for new and existing classes
The seven Compendium classes each bring something new to your Pathfinder Roleplaying Game:
- The spell-less ranger, a skilled warrior of the wilderness
- The shaman, with otherworldly new abilities and an animal spirit guide
- The battle scion, a master of sword and spell
- The white necromancer, wielding death magic for the side of Good
- The elven archer, deadly ranged fighter capable of astonishing feats of marksmanship
- The savant, master of all trades (if only for an instant)
- The all-new theurge class, combining arcane and divine power!
And, preorders receive the PDF for free :) Find out more in the Product forum: New Paths Compendium
Thanks!!!

I saw the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug yesterday and it was fun seeing Beorn the skin-changer realized on screen.
While the skin-changer alternate spell-less ranger class in the New Paths Compendium was not meant to be a Beorn character per se, it certainly pays homage to such characters in fantasy (and the name is most definitely a tip of the hat to Tolkien's creation)

First review over at Drivethre RPG!
"I've purchased various supplemental books for Pathfinder, and have always been impressed by the quality of Kobold Press's releases. This book, I believe, sets a new level of excellence for other third-party publishers to strive for.
100% this book is worth its price. The new classes are its main draw, and they alone are worth the price of the book in my opinion. You know you have a great product when you struggle to think of any negative elements to write about. I highly recommend this product, and hope to see more material of similar quality soon both from Kobold Press and other Third-Party publishers."

New 5-star review of the New Paths Compendium
One thing I love most is that occasional 3rd party piece of material ... comes out and sweeps me off of my feet. Kobold Press has definitely made that happen with their latest book, New Paths Compendium.
This is easily the best 3rd party book to come out... and I strongly recommend anyone interested in anything mentioned in this review to give this book a shot. You will not be disappointed ...
I'm thrilled to say this makes 8 5-star reviews :)

I finally got around to really digging into this book after going over Deep Magic. I have to say that not all the classes would fit in my campaign, but I DO like the concept of scaling feats. In fact, I think they should have been done this way in the first place. I'm not sure I could introduce them into my game, though, as I already have two or three power gamers who would just ride my campaigns off the rails with them.

For some reason, the Monk of the Peerless Mountain is one of my favourite things in this book. Having done a few years of tae-kwon do, which was about 80% focused on kicking, I love the idea of a monk who can use cleave and great cleave with his kicks. That's just awesome.
A guy in my Kingmaker campaign is playing as a spell-less ranger, and he's loving it. I'm also making up a few NPCs for the party to run into using classes and archetypes from the compendium. I'll have to get a review up sometime - and pick up the hardcover! (Just a shame I couldn't afford the bundle when I picked up the pdf...)

Awesome DungeonmasterCal - glad you like the Scaling Combat Feats!
SeeleyOne, that's correct. New Paths Compendium Hero Lab files are coming - my understanding is that they will come out soon after the Deep Magic Hero Lab files
Cool to here about your spell-less ranger player El Ronza! Of all the new classes I've written, the spell-less ranger is quite possibly the nearest and dearest to my heart :)

Hey all!
So, I was looking at the Savant class in Kobold Press's Path Compendium, and there were a couple things I didn't quite grasp.
I know the Savant can learn spells by seeing them, and they start out with some cantrips/orisons, and something similar with feats, skills, etc. What happens if you start at a higher level though? Say you start at level 5 - it's safe to assume you're not level 5 with an empty notebook, so how is it decided how many spells/feats/etc you've made note of in your travels? Sort of like how if you're a wizard, you can assume you've been gaining some base number (2, I think) of spells per level if you start above level 1.
Also, in the examples, they have a level 8 Savant. One of their avatars is a monk, and under their stat block, they have flurry of blows as an attack. Can Savants mimic class features? I know they can mimic special attacks for monsters and the like.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

They released about half of it late last night, according to one of the release managers. If you buy that package, you get the first half now, and the other part as an update in September.
From the Lone Wolf newsletter:
Kobold Press has partnered with us to release a little over half of the content from “New Paths Compendium” this month, and the rest will be released as a part of our late September Pathfinder update. If you purchase “New Paths Compendium” upon release, the new content will be available as a free update once added.
So it is now available!

Hey there - good questions
A skin-changer can indeed use the extra Wild shape feat to gain additional uses of animal shape.
In fact, the feats prerequisite line says as much!
Prerequisite: Wild shape or animal shape class feature.
Hmmm, interesting ... a custom magic Item that would let a skin-changer change into a Magical Beast (when using animal shape, I'm assuming)
It certainly sounds intriguing, why not give it a try in your game and see how it works out. The nice thing about doing this via a magic item is, if it turns out to be unbalancing for your game, the item can always be stolen, destroyed etc.

Woohoo.
I wasn't able to get into the kickstarter (too much money to Starfinder stuff), but I pre-ordered. So that shouldn't be too far behind. I will be so happy to get this.
I also work at a media store that carries a limited selection of RPG books, mostly PF and D&D5E. I plan on ordering this for the store when it hits normal book distro channels (and I've checked they carry Kobold Press stuff).

Just cracked open the newly revised New Paths Compendium and I am loving what I see so far. The only issue that really jumped out to me was the Skin-Changers Animal Combat ability. The issue I have with it is that the ability to bypass magic comes in really late. Should this not be online at around level 4-5 when, as a group, you start encountering critters which have dr/magic.
I am also excited because your version of a shape-shifting warrior trope is my choice for a mini campaign in which everyone is encouraged to play 3PP base classes.:) I had to change from my original decision because the skin-changer is such an excellently crafted class (ahem, besides what I mentioned above).
Cheers
Volf

Now patiently (impatiently) wait for the PDF link, but I know that isn't right away.
Yep, I didn't do the kickstarter (all my money was doing Starfinder right then), I pre-orederd, so I know it will take a few days. Wasn't complaining - just excited. :)

That's fantastic! Really thrilled to hear you like the skin-changer!
Not that late! I think they get it around level 8 (if my memory serves) which, in playtest, was pretty balanced.
If you wanted to post a quick review up in the main product thread, I would not complain! :)
