The Defenders never had what you would call a "stable" membership. Their whole philosophy was that they weren't a team in the conventional sense.

The person you might be thinking of is Valkyrie, but Hellcat was also an occasional member. And then of course there were the New Defenders led by former X-Man, Angel.

I'm pretty sure they are using the name Defenders here because "Marvel Knights" might be a bit on the nose. Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones have long been street-level heroes, and they have had wonderful team-ups in the past.

Me too, but to me, the Defenders are an iconic "non-team". So long as it's a bunch of people who really don't belong in the same room fighting crime, especially on levels the Avengers wouldn't notice, it's the Defenders. It's also what drew me to New Warriors.

And the last few DC cartoon movies weren't very good! That Superman movie was actually worse than the Man of Steel flick, which is saying a lot and the Flashpoint story was just not DC at all... it was way too dark.

If I want a dark comic I go to Image or Dark Horse, if I want a gritty-ish hero we have Marvel. If I want a SUPER HERO I go (or would have before the New 52) DC.

In fact DC is more misogynistic now then a BDSM Convention (If you've read Catwoman or Red Hood and the Outlaws you can feel me).

Sure Marvel hasn't been tops recently, the only three cartoons they have really rocked on were also cancelled: Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Spectacular Spider-Man & Wolverine and the X-Men.

But for some reason that terrible Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon is doing well and they have another Avengers cartoon as well as the new Hulk series

Well, they have a LOT to contend with. Arrow is well written, has likable characters and good villains et.cetera. Also, what little we saw of Barry (the flash) promises another well written show this year.

I like Agents of Shield, a lot. But they can't contend with Arrow.

Wasn't Spider-Man a regular member of the Defenders for awhile? I know we will never see him due to licensing, but it really makes no sense for Spidey to not be around in Marvel New York, especially with all the Daredevil/Spider-Man team-up over the years.

Vice-versa for me. I like Arrow, a lot. But it sure can't contend with Agents of Shield. So I look forward to see what Marvel has to offer (and am thankful it's not on the wretched angst-ridden CW...).

Angel, Beast, and Iceman were members of the New Defenders for awhile, before the "end of all songs" story ended the team by (apparently) killing off Gargoyle, Valkyrie, Manslaughter, Moondragon, and Andromeda.

But yes, Angel also led the brief-lived team the Champions of L.A. (including Iceman, Black Widow, Hercules, and Ghost Rider).

I don't know, when I compare Arrow season 1 and AOS season 1, arrow beats it soundly. Aside from the last episode or two, and the mystery of Coulson and Centipede (which I firmly believe is a part of AIM), the show is pretty weak, characters are mostly one dimensional and nothing much happens.

Arrow had a lot of thing happen. A lot.

Not to me. 'A lot of stuff happening' isn't enough to get through the lame soapy stuff that Arrow continually mires itself in.

Agents of Shield is above that (it has some, of course, but nowhere near the extent that the super-angsty Arrow smears us with).

Yeah, what you said. I think Valkyrie and Nighthawk are the core members to be honest as well. Followed by Hellcat, then Dr. Strange.

I don't think the Silver Surfer did anything but make some cameo appearances after issue four or something. Namor didn't spend much time hanging around either.

After Valkyrie, Nighthawk, Hellcat, and the good Doctor, Hulk showed up the most.

I also liked the way Moon Knight popped up fairly regularly (if my memory isn't off). The Scorpio storyline in Defenders had my all time favorite Moon Knight moment. Scorpio trapped Moon Knight in a classic deathtrap (a pit with a cover, that was to be filled with water). He threw Moon Knight a beer, then activated the trap.

Last we see Moon Knight he is leaning against a wall popping a cold one.

He lived of course. Scorpio uncovered his deathtrap the next morning. The only thing in the trap was an empty beer can.
