Sinful Actions- (Of course there's spoilers, watch out!)

Rise of the Runelords

What events/actions caused you to award a "Sin Point" to a PC?
It can be a reaction to something, or even a specific case where a PC did something so wrathfully, so lustfully, etc. it just begged for a point.
Any and all suggestions welcome.

WRATH: After Gogmurt nearly killed the party sorceror, the paladin coup de graced him in a rage. Wrath Point!

LUST: The sorcerer partook of the Pixie's Kitten.

SLOTH: Both the sorcerer and the bard have Rings of Sustenance, but sleep in every morning anyway.

PRIDE: The paladin is offended whenever someone asks for her help, saying loudly, "Why should you have to ask me to do my duty?" Trust me, even the player agrees it's pride.

ENVY: Haven't awarded any of these.

GLUTTONY: The bard steals from others' plates just to get a taste of everything anyone's eating. The barbarian occasionally drinks himself into a stupor.

GREED: Oh, there's just no way my party got any of these. They've given away a good 15-25% of all the loot I've ever given them.

Technically my campaign hasn't started yet, but as my players were putting together their characters, one character established that he talked a friend into taking the hagfish challenge when the arrived in town, because he wanted the silver. Greed point to the fast talker.

One of the locals saw the companion try and fail, and took the challenge "to show the outsiders how it is done". Pride point. (he also failed btw)

The Shopkeeper's Daughter scenario is definitely something that might give a Lust point, as would the Succubus much later on...

I haven't been keeping track of points in my game - that's more accounting than I'm wanting to do. Besides, as play goes on, you listen to what your party is doing/thinking, and you can see their virtues and sins easily. For instance, the elven fighter in my party has been making a point to say that she's slicing the ears off each and every goblin they kill, and has been arguing with the redemptionist cleric/paladin of Ragathiel that they should be killing the goblins rather than trying to reeducate them. She's a shoe-in for Wrath. The inquisitor has been sleeping in way past morning, getting drunk, and was the target for Shayliss' affections. He's majored in Sloth, with minors in Lust and Gluttony. Back when I had a bard, he talked his way into drumming up business for the Pixie's Kitten, and made sure to pass along any juicy gossip he found out there - points towards Lust, but Pride was a strong contender as well. The wizard who grew up in the Turandarok Academy and is Kendra's cousin is a strong contender for Pride, not just in his family name, but for Sandpoint as well. The cleric/paladin is probably the most virtuous of them, but I suspect that, as one of Ragathiel's chosen, Wrath will also eventually claim him. The gnome rogue was motivated to help his uncle's floundering locksmithy, and turned to adventuring in order to share his wealth. That's Charitable, but depending upon how things go, he could be Envious of the dwarven locksmith's success in town. That could go either way.

In any event, by the time you make it to Book 5, you'll have a pretty good idea of who these people are and which sin or virtue they identify with.

Making an honest woman out of Shayliss is a good way to get rid of that point. :) Or at least have a healthy relationship.

Oh, yeah, our gnome sorcerer got himself a Lust point at the Pixie's Kitten in the first session or two, but since then has been in a dedicated relationship with a washerwoman, protecting her home, helping her with the chores, and buying her useful items (Wand of Unseen Servant, anyone?) every chance he gets.

That -1 Lust point has ended up at around +6 Love points. It all depends on how you play the game.

Fanny: Why doesn't he come around any more? *sob*

Unless that washerwoman has some serious investment in UMD, how is she using the wand of Unseen Servant?

LOL. She has to have Ameiko do it for her. Don't tell the gnome. I've been hiding that little mess-up from him.

OMG this so happened with my group too. Paladin of Sarenra + Gogmurt +coup de grace = Wrath point. As an aside the PC's call Gogmurt gogurt in remembrance.

I've had a few others

In my game I've found it easier to award XP to the whole party even if the player is there or not. The one thing we do do is at the end of every game each player makes a suggestion for something that another player did that he likes and I award XP (fairly small award but, my players love this). Typically this has resulted in award XP of less than 5% of a players total so variance is not a big deal. I did have on player b!@~*ing about the XP variance and yes I gave him a envy point for it.

Another was the Sorcerer trying to charm the towns black smith to reduce his price to smelt the gold giant helm. Thats a greed point.

WRATH: The gnome druid consistently slits the throats of fallen goblins. The rest of the party have also started taking up the practice. Given Gogmurt charmed the druid's companion during combat, I highly doubt his end will be pleasant when they catch up.
Party seems to have quite a vengeful streak.

GLUTTONY: The gnome sorcerer has a love of food and ale. Was three sheets to the wind when the party+Aldern faced the boar in Tickwood, and during the celebratory dinner afterwards

CHARITY: The half-orc Paladin donated gold to the orphanage

GREED: The half-elf fighter/rogue is just dying to be greedy but has so far lacked targets of any value. It's just a matter of time so I've pretty much chalked this one up already. Thoughtcrime ;-)
The human monk considers looting goblins a higher priority than rescuing noblemen screaming for help. He's also tried to sell everything including dogslicers. He was a little put out when told no-one in Sandpoint would buy them.

Heh.

My group is about to hit the Runeforge so my tracking will soon pay off.

SLOTH: Several times the party has been like, "The wizard is down two spells. Let's rest before moving on." Yeah.

ENVY: We have both an archer fighter and a melee fighter. Occasionally the archer will pull off something like two x3 crits in one round. This usually leaves the melee guy sputtering a bit.

WRATH: The archer loves to needlessly coup-de-grace helpless defeated foes. Also pretty much anytime a tough foe is dropped, there is a bit of revenge. Lucrecia and Mokmurian come to mind.

GREED: The wizard basically wants to live in the library below Jorgenfist now.

GLUTTONY: I think my group is actually negative on this one. I recall them liberating some vintage booze from ogres and seeking out the brewery/monastery to return it.

PRIDE: See archer fighter. Pretty much every time he crits for 100+.

Good point and yeah its endemic with my players. With a 12th level generalist wizard and a Sorcerer they are constantly doing this. So much so that I made the tunnels under Jorgenfist block teleport. I am totally stealing this right now.

I've been going the opposite route: I've been awarding a mark for everything that I think is vaguely sin-like, in the hopes of building up a profile what sin to assign to what character. I've been using a nominal system of a mark for the average comment or crack, and a full tick (worth five marks) for more glaring offenses.

Unfortunately, the plan is starting to fall apart, since the Dwarf is leading in about two catergories and has more marks than the rest of the party combined!

Still, I have at least a couple marked out for Lust and Greed (the Dwarf was at one point ideal for gluttony, then he got himself a proper wrath tick by punching Tsuto unconscious in jail - after they'd finished interrogating him and realised they wren't going to get anything out of him...) I have a reasonable plan for Envy and I suppose I can always set Sloth on the person with the least sin points, because clearly the player hasn't been trying...!

I have one player, Fighter, who is easily the most Zealous(opposite of Sloth) of the group, running around everywhere and looking for the other group members at the start of the festival because he wanted friends to adventure with. He's also the most Lustful (after bluffing his way out of Venn Vinder's rage, he came back for Shayliss while the party was selling loot) and Prideful (talking trash at the Tug o' War, AT Venn Vinder).

Our Ninja is pretty wrathful, he looked into the glassworks window and saw Lonjiku, then later critted Tsuto to death.

Our Witch has not been roleplaying a whole lot, besides fighting off Aldern's advances. She may end up being Virtuous by default...

Given the prevalence of a couple of card decks at our table, I'm considering the use of the critical hit/fumble decks to be worth some sin. The hit seems to go between sloth, greed, and wrath in my opinion, whereas the fumble is a harder sell. While the critical hit deck has done hilariously awesome things in a previous attempt at this AP (like plane shifting Mamma to Heaven with a Shocking Grasp crit), it's gotten a bit old and has negatively affected what should be tougher fights.

Other than that, it's hard to place most of the party since we just had a few characters shuffled. Before hand though we had the following:

Rogue: one each of Pride, Lust, and Greed. All stemming from Shayliss, oddly enough.

GMPC Oracle: 1 Lust for seeking conversation at the Pixie's Kitten, 1 Envy because he's a deaf mute surrounded by people who can hear and speak. Bordered on 1 Wrath for wanting to gut the wizard's pigeon familiar (reskinned toucan) for it's attack on his face.

Wizard: 2 Gluttony for his drinking (making lots of successes to avoid drunkenness), 1 Sloth for avoiding seduction by the rogue and Shayliss as they tried to double team him. May add greed for immediately breaking out the crit deck when he crits.

Barbarian: It's a barbarian, almost a guarantee that using rage may invoke wrath points. Otherwise Sloth since she didn't do much other than that unless prompted. 1 Pride due to the Rogue, Shayliss, the wizard, and Ameiko.

Silver Crusade

My campaign hasn't started yet, but I'm already considering giving one player a greed point for choosing the Rich Parents and Merchant Family traits on his PC.

I've already decided that I'll start the day of the Swallowtail Festival by asking how early the characters are going out to the festival, since it starts in the morning. The PCs mostly won't know each other, so they'll be arriving at the festival separately. Those who sleep late get a sloth point. :p

Why may I ask? To me that makes little sense...it's not his character's fault that his parents were rich merchants. Is the person behind the character being greedy to start the game? Yes. But that's a reflection of the player, not the character. The assigning of those points should be based on the characters actions.

I probably should have included a smiley on that. I was kidding... mostly. :p

We're nearing the end of Book 2 and the most Sin/Virtue points anyone has is 2. However, one player has FOUR separate areas with 2 Virtue points, while another has five separate Virtue and Sin categories (and cancelled himself out in the sixth).

The NPC Arcane Trickster has only one point, in Humility. Technically I might give her one in Gluttony as well but her reason for drinking herself into a stupor has to do with trying to forget the sinful character's wanton whore stories. I don't blame the girl. ;)

The Barbarian Scholar has a mark in Humility and a mark in Kindness. No sins.

The halfling Bard/Cleric is the virtuous one with 2 Virtue Points in Charity, Temperance (giving all the drinking that goes on!), Zeal, and Kindness. Surprising on the last as she's a bit wrathful but she doesn't take it too far and it's only in combat vs. truly evil critters. Thus it shifted from Wrath to Zeal.

The Eldritch Warrior has one point in Envy, Gluttony, and Pride, had Greed and Generosity cancel each other out surprisingly enough, and two points in both Wrath and Zeal.

Finally we have the Sorceress. She joined us shortly into Book 2 and I've not really been able to peg any specific sins OR virtues on her. I'll be sure to give her opportunities, however. ;)
