Moving and Casting in a round

Rules Questions

Hello, i obviously have a question in relation with moving and casting.

( lets say i have expeditious retreat casted on myself)

If i move half my movement in a round, then cast, can i move the other half of my movement after i casted the spell, all that in the same round ?

Thanks.

Nope. Once you stop moving during a round, you're done with that movement action unless you have a feat or class feature or other special ability that says otherwise.

This.

Alright thank you guyz ! Is there a feat like that for casters Thanis ?

Flyby attack, from the bestiary I.

It is the same as Spring attack, but only when flying and providing the right to do a standard action instead of an attack.

Of note - many GMs (and Pathfinder Society) do not allow feats from the Bestiary. If you are not playing PFS, you can ask your GM if Bestiary feats are allowed, but he is under no compulsion to allow them.

That being said, I don't see a problem with allowing PCs to take Bestiary feats myself, so long as they qualify for them.

What he said.

I know that it's only for ranged attacks but what about Shot on the Run. I wouldn't have a problem with a player using that while casting spells. Has fairly steep pre-requisite requirements for a magic user though.

You need to have fly spee to take the feat. I do not think that casting a spell counts for that.

I'd probably let that work as well (or be the basis for a player invented feat). I'd definitely be much more okay with it was a ranged touch spell (could see arguements that this is RAW even), but as you mention it would be unusual to say the least for a wizard to have. Eldritch Knight I could see perhaps, focused on using Ray spells and taking ranged combat feats.

Shot on the Run doesn't work for most spells. It allows "a single ranged attack," which is different from allowing a spell, even one that gives you a ranged touch attack. It would work if you'd pre-cast Produce Flame, for example, since that gives you something like a thrown weapon, but not for Scorching Ray.

Spring Attack, similarly, doesn't work with touch spells unless you're already holding a charge. (Although if it's not a multiple-touch spell you're really hurting your action economy.)

This is the same reason neither of those feats is compatible with Vital Strike, which is its own standard action, not an attack.

However, Flyby Attack DOES give you a standard action and therefore is compatible with most spells. It should be noted that using Flyby Attack, unlike Spring Attack, may provoke AOOs, so in that sense it is not as good.

As to "Monster Feats," let me point you to a recent thread where the general consensus seems to be that, outside PFS, it's a houserule to forbid them to players.
