Ok, I've got 2 stars (almost three... just another game or three).
And I've played almost every scenario - really, just down to 2 and the season 5 scenarios. And I've played (or run) a number of the Mods too.
But I now am presented with the ability to play (or run-for-credit) things that I had figured were barred to me. I figured I'd come here and have my net friends tell me how they are planning to do it - what they think. So... I'll list some ideas, and would like to hear responses - and any other ideas/views anyone else sees.
I see several ways to "spend" this windfall...
1) Play something with friends that they have not played - basicly saving it till several of my friends say "we haven't played 1-53 Assult on the Kindome of the Impossible - but you have. Why don't you play it with us?"
2) Play something that was a total bust when I played it before. For example 0-16 "To Scale the Dragon" I played with a very poor judge - I later ran it and failed even recognize it as the same adventure.
3) Play something I don't even remember playing... 2-15 Written in Blood for example. I have no idea what happened in that adventure...
4) Play something that was a lot of fun, like 0-06 "Black Waters". Except I've run that something like 4 or 5 times. GREAT SCENARIO!
5) Play something that I know gives a great boon, on an advantage for one of my PCs... basicly meta game it.
6) Play a Mod that I have played before (like Carrion Hill - great mod!)... gives the most "Bang for the Buck". Mods run longer (normally two or more evenings - so more gaming.
Thanks in advance!
(I'll go back to work now and let this simmer and see what cooks up this evening - if I can stop myself from peeking).
(edit: drat! I thought I had put this on the PFS GM board... must be a monday. Ah well, feel free to move it over there anyone, or it will sit here just as fine. It shouldn't have spoilers ... I hope.)

I already spent my first replay credit at Gencon the first day it became available. My friend and I wanted to play something Thursday night. Unfortunately, all they were offering then were year 5 mods we had already signed up to play later with other friends and Bonekeep Level 1. My friend had never played Bonekeep and my group had only gotten about half-way through the first time i had played so I wanted to see if I could get further this time.

How about "Play something that might have been GMed well, but where player mistakes or the whims of chance forced the party to turn back."
Or "Play adventures that will impact a particular PC. For example, replay "Fingerprints of the Fiend" with your monk/ hellknight.)
I think I'd lump your first suggestion in #2, "First run was a bust..." even though my example was due to bad judging. It could easily be having a great judge, but a real Griefer at the table (this has only happened to me once - but it is possible). Basicly #2 is for all those scenarios that got "busted" - even if it's "your house is on fire - you need to leave" sort of thing.
Your second I had not considered... Thanks for the suggestion. I may have been lumping that into #5 - and thinking of it as meta-gaming.

I've only failed 2 scenarios, because I got dead. I'll be using my two stars to check those off the list... I'm OCD about stuff and it bugs the crap out of me that I "failed" those two... oddly both were because of a sub-par healer, who thankfully does not PFS anymore and so I should be fine this time around.
When I get me 3rd, which is pretty soon I'll use it to rerun one of my all times favorite.

I'm impressed that you have played all but 2 scenarios nosig, way to go :)
Opps! looks like there's four I haven't played yet! (not counting season 5):
But two are kind of special...3-23 Goblin Blood Dead (my wife has played this, and one of these days we are going to get her to run it for us. She's real shy though... so it'll have to be with friends).
3-15 Haunting of Hinojai (I likely wont play this one. I've turned down several chances to play it. Yeah, I hate haunts that much, and it's got Haunt in the title!)
4-04 King of the Storval Stairs - I'll get it soon I'm sure.
4-26 The Waling Rune - I almost walking into this as a pick up game with two Newbie players and a Generic... I find now that I lucked out when I decided to save it for playing with my normal crew, and backed out because I was real tired (last slot of a CON...).
So I'm glad season 5 has started and I can play more! wo-ho!

I'm going to use mine to replay low level scenarios that I know are great for teaching new GMs how to handle running games. That way I can hand-pick tables of players and always be assured I can join in as the GM does a run for the first or second time. I'll be able to have some fun playing one of my characters while being able to give them first-hand feedback based on experience afterward instead of simply relying on feedback from players who don't know the scenario themselves or (worse) having to "observe."

#2 or #5.
I have one scenario where most of the party agreed the suggestions to "go home" was a valid choice. I have no idea how it ended. (well for me it ended with "go take your gear off in the upper room and come back. Then I spent 16 prestige and woke up in a Lodge somewhere. :)
More likely I will play it with the boon that is only good on certain characters (intelligent items, improved ani-comps, etc. ). If the boons Mike alluded to some time ago become available (a chance at a race boon for completing a race-specific scenario) I will even more likely use it then (provided I like the race in question :)
I could probably be convinced to re-play anything with a dragon in it.
Just 'cause.
Y'know.
Dragon.

6) Play a Mod that I have played before (like Carrion Hill - great mod!)... gives the most "Bang for the Buck". Mods run longer (normally two or more evenings - so more gaming.
Thanks for the tip. Carrion Hill is going on my radar.
I'll be getting my second star very soon. I planning to GM or play Sanos Abduction again. That was a super fun scenario, and I want that boon for my tattooed sorcerer.
I'm also hoping to play Bonekeep again. I played it with several players who were not prepared and we did not get very far.
|
Right now, with my two stars, I am hoping to replay a scenario that was a total bust, TPKed, due to a GM misunderstanding a couple of points in the scenario, including one of the BBEG's powers.
The other thing I want to do is replay The Ruby Phoenix Tournament. I played and GMed it during the grandfather time period, so I would like to play it, sometime, with a real PC in the level range.

Since we don't know for sure if they will renew, I'm saving mine to be able to potentially get a third character through the Seeker arc.
It was my understanding (although correct me if I'm wrong) that you got to replay X number of scenarios each season, and that your "replayability" would refresh every August.
Under that premise, I'm trying to GM as many scenarios as I can to get up to 5 stars before next August, and then each season I'll replay Eyes of the Ten.
If it doesn't work that way, I'll just replay Eyes once.
If it does, and I don't get 5 stars by August, I'll probably replay some 12+ mods or specials this season, and then Eyes going forward. I have two level 12s now, and an almost level 10 that I really like playing. The idea of having several 12+ or 13+ characters appeals to me, since the highest level character I've ever had in my 20 years of gaming was 14th level.

Why do you want more characters to become seekers? Unless you play a LOT of high level modules you're essentially retiring the character anyway.
In case it isn't clear, this is a genuine question on my part and NOT some veiled accusation of BadWrongFun

EotT would be 4 mods right? so you only need 4 stars. And I think currently the replays are listed as only once... but it is hinted that if it goes well, they may renew it next year (for more replay).

I would suggest #2. Perhaps there was a scenario you failed miserably.
I plan on re-playing Slave Pits of Absalom. The group I originally played with got tossed in jail by the town guard during the 1st encounter!
(Save myself, who was on look-out. Yes I did warn them several times that a whole bunch of town guards were coming and we need to leave now, but to no avail).
That was a fun, though short night. They each did d12 months hard time, formed a prison gang and one of them, once he leveled, took a rank in Profession - Pesh dealer.
Good times!

If I had to pick two to replay now, it'd be:
'Murder on the Throaty Mermaid' - apparently it's different every time, and the GM I had the first time round seemed a bit nervous. So sort of #2 & #7.
'We Be Goblins Too!' - loved it the first time round (with Richard Pett GMing!) and from experience, the WBG modules don't suffer at all from being spoiled. The boon is good too, so #4 & #5.
If the 'replay credits' aren't going to be replenished each season, I'll probably wait to see what else I may want to use them on.

I've heard it's a blast, and I want the chance to play it with more than one character. Also, I've heard that the boon at the end is really cool although so far I've resisted the temptation to look and see what it is.
Mostly, though, it's the idea of having an unattainable goal. I doubt I can get one character through the seeker arc much less three, especially with the rumors that they're going to retire it. It's just something to shoot for.

Nopt sure if the copy I am using of Guide 5.0 is the most recent release, but the GM Star replay section says the following:
Alternatively, campaign GMs who are recognized for their efforts by receiving GM stars (see page 37), may receive additional player or GM credit for a number of non-Tier 1 scenarios or sanctioned modules per GM star they have earned. For example, a three-star GM may select any three scenarios or sanctioned modules that she can then play or GM for credit one additional time each. For each of these adventures, she can thus earn a total of three Chronicle sheets, rather than the two normally allowed. When replaying a scenario with GM-star credit, the GM completing the Chronicle sheet will annotate the Notes section of the Chronicle sheet and add “GM Star Replay Credit × Star” to annotate the use of star credit replay. The GM Star Replay Credits renew each year on the first day of Pathfinder Society events at Gen Con.
The bolding is mine, but it looks like they decided to go for the renewal version already.
It looks like it is still set to only be able to add a third credit, no more, for any non-tier 1/1-2 scenario/module.

Mike and John have said that for this season it is a trial run but if all goes well there's a good chance they'll keep it for next year.
Kinevon is correct.
The rules only allow you to replay/re-gm a given Scenario one extra time for credit.
If you've already played and GMed a scenario GM star replay will let you get exactly one more credit for it. Once you've used a star replay ona Scenario you can't do it again for that scenario.
So you'll only be able to play Through Eyes of the Ten twice.
It's still better than what we had before.

They didn't consider it for very long, did they?
I think the logic is that it is better to call it a lifetime benefit as a pilot, than sayit renews then change their mind.
Better: "Oh, cool! I only replayed one, but it renews!"
Than: "What? It's not Renewing? I blew through my credits already!"
|
Okie dokie. I'll hold my breath, then. I won't be 5 stars for some time anyways, so no rush for me.
Although, if you can only replay a scenario once with this system, I don't see much harm in renewing every season. That's a max of 5 games each year for someone who has obviously put a lot of time, energy, and likely money into Pathfinder. It's not like it's being opened up to newbies who might find some way to abuse it (and I can't think of something that would constitute "abuse" anyways).
Here's to hoping they go with the renew option. If they don't, oh well. What we have now is a nice addition.
