'77 with Holmes Basic.
Moved to AD&D next year.
I was 10. Never stopped playing RPGs since.
I pretty much abandoned D&D during 2nd ed - they removed my favorite class, Monk, and dropped demons and devils, and kept level restrictions on demihumans. So they kept stuff I hated, got rid of things I liked, and didn't change the rules enough to make it worth it. So I play 1st with houserules off and on until 3rd came out. I played 4th four about 3 months when I decided to come back to 3rd and started Pathfinder.
The ruleset I run now is primarily Pathfinder with classes, races, feats and magic from 3.0, 3.5, and 3PP for all 3.
I really didn't like Bo9S when it came out, but I've matured since then. I am loving PoW.

In 1989 the Berlin Wall was still up, wasn't born until just a few months after the Soviet Union dissolved.
I started roleplaying with the 3.5 beginner box and my brother and we quit early because we had no one to play with. Later, around 7th or 8th grade I played some 4E with a decent group, but we were all so bad at the game though our GM was cool.
Relatively recently I got into Pathfinder and played for a few years and now I'm DMing a Kingmaker Campaign with one of my friends playing a Warlord. Level 8 and he seems pretty balanced compared to the Barbarian, so I'm gonna say mission accomplished. They're up against Vordekai soon though, so let's hope they survive!

Awesome! Been really looking forward to seeing how a Template meshes into multiple classes. Thanks a lot for the speedy reply.
Also the player in my game using the Warlord is having a blast.

So, fun fact about recharge mechanisms, when I was doing all my Arena of Doom stuff I don't think I ever needed to use a recharge. I had enough toys at my disposal that it was never really necessary. YMMV but I think they will probably be considered more of a 'oh crap' button for when you really need a specific thing rather than something you do a lot. Possible exception for Warlord because gambits are cool.

Speaking of, if and/or when you have time I'd love to see how Harbinger works out for you. The current document is the final beta; no new (public) changes will be made until the very final dead-tree-copy release. Once PoW 1 is out and the first part of Akashic Mysteries is done, Harbinger's getting PDF'd :D

There were a lot of occasions where I was doing Gambits that weren't strictly necessary just for the thrill of it....

Insain Dragoon |

My player who's currently running a Warlord has been using Gambits very often, primarily for the Charisma bonus to the action and the reward. He likes the large number of options he has in Swift actions though is slightly overwhelmed. When asked about it he prefers having so many options even if it's hard to pick because he feels versatile.
The player is specializing in Golden Lion, Scarlet Throne, and Primal Fury.
I'm pretty general in my way of speech, so I have trouble providing feedback sometimes. If you ask me a direct question I should be able to provide feedback for it though.

Is the "all said and done" plan for Path of War to do a kickstarter for a full color hardcover compilation, complete with sexy WAR cover art?
It's my hope, but honestly, that's up to you all. We'll write it so long as there is a demand, and if the demand is high enough, that will be what will launch a Kickstarter. :)
I'd love a Wayne Reynolds piece personally... ;)

Outside of posting on these threads and subscribing I don't know how else to show support lol. If you guys make a Maneuver deck, special character sheets, or tokens for PoW I'd totally buy them.
I loved Ultimate Psionics, but nothing in Pathfinder quite excites me like PoW. PoW currently dominates my "Next PC" list for the first 5 slots.

That's awesome! ^_^
But seriously, that's exactly what it takes. Participate in the community to show that we have an active following, and of course, pay to play (this is a business afterall). Dreamscarred Press does a great job at making a quality product at a reasonable price, and what with PDF sales being what they are, easily managed on a variety of devices. I know I use my iPhone and laptop for games, all of my gaming group has access to the materials as I update or change them based on community feedback for my game right on their own phones or tablets too. To me though, nothing quite like the dead tree edition to make it feel real though.
But yeah, just be vocal and present, contribute through subscription and/or buying the hard copy book. Ask for it. That's how it works.
And if I haven't said it before, let me say it again on my behalf and the behalf of the other writers and Dreamscarred Press: Thank you! You fine people are the reason we can do this, never forget it!

I've had a look at the Silver Crane discipline on Google Docs...
First question- why are the associated weapons "bows, hammers and spears"?
It doesn't seem to fit the fluff.
Without playtesting,I can't judge the power of the discipline, but if you are in an campaign that frequently features incorporeal creatures or evil outsiders, this discipline would be extremely useful.(Especially at higher levels - the ability to turn an incorporeal creature corporeal, even if only for a brief period (see the 6th-level strike Holy Pinions) makes this discipline even more useful, as it gives the initiator's allies a chance to attack the former incorporeal).
Another ability that could be useful is the fact the Silver Crane discipline allows "attack healing"- certain boosts require the initiator to attack another character and enable the initiator to heal himself or an ally within 30 feet. And that doesn't include the strikes that inflict additional sacred damage and simultaneously heal the initiator.

Trogdar |

I believe the weapons are supposed to be associated with the weapons that are seen in the hands of the heavenly host, but I could be wrong.
I think the silver crane discipline looks great, it would be awesome to pick up on a paladin thematically (if not slightly redundant given some of the class features).

So to answer the question up-thread:
The current plan is for the first four releases to get put together and released in softcover (I'm working on that now, actually...). That means the stuff in Stalker, Warlord, Warder, and Supplemental Content = PoWSoftcover1
All the new stuff in playtesting (including the Harbinger) will go into a second set of releases, which will then be released as their own softcover, PowSoftcover2.
If there's demand for it, we're considering doing a Kickstarter for a full-color hardcover version of the two combined. I don't know about a WAR cover, as he's got a pretty full schedule and we haven't asked him about it, but a cover by a pro in the industry would be a pretty safe bet. That's still a very preliminary plan - we haven't scoped out all the costs associated with something like that.

I think the combination of Paizo naming scheme combined with Wayne Reynolds cover art is worth its weight in platinum. When Ultimate Psionics gets into stores, I imagine it will have a good number of purchases by people (especially casuals/non-forum goers) who might not even realize its not an official Paizo product at first, they just see it sitting there amongst the Pathfinder books and go "hey, cool, Psionics".

I had something really funny happen right along those lines. One of my players, who knows that I write freelance for DSP, saw my new Ultimate Psionics book sitting on the coffee table and goes "No way! Paizo actually did a psionics book?!?! Dude it looks awesome! Is that a Sith on the cover?"
Even knowing that DSP are the guys doing psionics and that I had been talking about their new book, it was so well produced and the art was so great that it never entered his mind that this was not a new book in the core product line.

Some of my friends have been naysayers on 3rd party companies, at least till they actually look at DSPs books. Generally the first response I get is "Woah, this stuff is actually really fun looking"
Though most of them refuse to call it psionics, they prefer "variant sorcery"

In another thread people are talking about PrCs and how most of them are so bad that the recent Evangelist/Sentinel/Exalted PrCs seem OP in comparison, but only because they're actually worth taking.
It reminded me of PoW Supplement which has 5 PrCs that I consider worth taking in a lot of circumstances.
-Battle Templar
To sum it up my friend who plays casters primarily said "If it's going to sacrifice two levels of spell casting it better do something cool" After reading the class abilities he said "It does in fact do something cool."
-Blade Caster
I like the fusion of spellcasting and maneuvers in combat! The mechanics are solid for spellweaving in the fray and his combat rounds look to be quite thought provoking. The lack of medium or heavy armor spellcasting is kind of sad though when that Bladecaster is wearing what seems to be heavy armor. Maybe Upgrade him to medium at 5? I can understand if you don't want heavy.
-Dragon Fury
Completely accomplishes making dual wielding into a very strong and scary force of nature 10/10 would play.
-Mage Hunter
This is my second favorite PrC from the book. It's in the number 2 spot for my "next PC" list because its mechanics actually make it into a believable mage hunter! Absolutely love it! I've been waiting for a class that does pretty much exactly what this one does. If I were to suggest any changes though it's to change the maneuvers to read
At every even level, a mage hunter gains
new maneuvers known from the Scarlet Throne, Steel
Serpent, Solar Wind, and Veiled Moon disciplines or from any discipline he previously had access to (either from a martial disciple
class or from the Martial Training feat).
That way someone would feel more free to go into Mage Hunter from the Warder or future initiator classes.
-Umbral Blade
Veiled Moon is my favorite discipline and this is a PrC that is centered on Veiled Moon. Love at first sight! It helps that this Discipline is
1. strong
2. Has you doing something unique (fusing with an extraplanar creature)
3. Runs well out of my favorite initiator class
Ultimate Psionics also has a lot of actual worthwhile PrCs, but this is a PoW thread.
Thank you guys for making PrCs that are worth taking! I missed having those options. Hopefully a "Master of 9" style PrC will come in PoW2!

Just to support the above post, I think my next PC is going to be a Soul Hunter that moves into Umbral Blade. Which is why I need my Umbral Blade questions answered, Chris!
Harbinger stuff:
Touch of the Witch: Which happens first, a strike or a stance? If I'm in this stance and hit an uncursed guy with Murderous Spite do I deal 1d6 damage or 3d6 damage?
Word of Retribution: How much damage does it deal?
Infinity Mirror Stance: How do I refresh the images? As far as I know there is no action to end a stance, just an action to SWITCH to another stance. Do I switch and then switch back?
There will be more.

Umbral Blade stuff.
Shadow Blade: Can I use it on multiple weapons? How many actions does it take to shadow blade both ends of a double weapon? When does it end?
Blade of Night: Kind of refers back to the previous question. If I'm wielding two short swords does a single move action charge both of them? What about a double weapon?

Prince of Knives |

Harbinger stuff:
Touch of the Witch: Which happens first, a strike or a stance? If I'm in this stance and hit an uncursed guy with Murderous Spite do I deal 1d6 damage or 3d6 damage?
I'm...reasonably certain...that it's a rider effect that happens after the attack is resolved, not before; that is, you'd deal 1d6 damage, then the guy would become cursed. That said I'm not as up on Pathfinder's order of operations as I should be.
Word of Retribution: How much damage does it deal?
With a word you afflict your enemies with the power of your vengeance. You may activate this counter whenever a cursed creature deals damage to you; when you do, make a Spellcraft check (DC = 10 + ½ the creature’s hit dice + the creature’s charisma modifier). If you succeed, you deal equal damage to that creature, which is not subject to resistance of any kind.
Lemme know if you've got better wording for that - I like to think that I strive for elegance ^_^
Infinity Mirror Stance: How do I refresh the images? As far as I know there is no action to end a stance, just an action to SWITCH to another stance. Do I switch and then switch back?
You are precisely correct - there's no action to refresh the images. You have to assume a new stance, then resume Infinity Mirror, which means at least 1 round of time in which you have no images.

Last thing for Harbinger!
Woedrinker is wierd. Not a Boost, strike, or counter. Is that even supposed to be possible?
I originally had it as a Boost with an unusual initiation action, but Chris insisted that it be 'typeless' instead. There's precedent within Path of War for it, in other discs.
I have the basic outline for Harvey the Harbinger now. I'll have to buy stuff for each fightin' level and run the fights now!
Yay! Can I get an idea of what Harvey is like?

I haven't even started yet and I think the recover mechanism is too easy for the Harbinger.
See how it plays out. I've been playing a Harbinger (yay self-testing!) in an online campaign for a couple of months now and I've found it creates quite a bit of tension with regards to spending your Swifts.

ErrantX |

OK, but what if I put shadow blade on a weapon and it leaves my possession? Throwing it, selling it, giving some to my homies?
Covered that in my edit as well; as soon as it comes to rest after being thrown, or if it is dropped/disarmed etc; it loses its "charge" so to speak.

We'll see. I didn't pick a lot of boosts so counters are pretty much the only thing that's going to use my swifty.

So, I just got PoW: supplemental Content, via the subscription (Amazing value, btw!), and I have a question.
I'm playing a Warlord 2/Fighter 2 double weapon finess combatant, and I'm maybe going to PRC into Dragon Fury (For which I am filed with /glee/), and of course I picked up Raging Hunter Pounce. The question I have is, if I take the Martial Charge feat, could I initiate Raging Hunter Pounce, and initiate the Swift Claws maneuver as my first attack, and then make an off-hand attack.
Secondarily, may I also substitute the off-hand attack for a strike? May I initiate a strike in place of each attack I'd get?
And may I initiate a full round strike as part of a martial charge? Can charge and initiate Dragon Assault and Cornered Frenzy Strike off of a pounce?

Skylancer4 |

I would write Word of Retribution as "If you succeed, you deal damage to the attacker equal to the damage it dealt you [before or after] damage reduction or resistance."
To be fair, if you didn't take the damage, it wasn't dealt to you. Not sure the wording needs to be changed to include DR or resistances.
It isn't an attack being reflected (where DR/resists would matter). It is the damage taken by you, which sets the damage of a typeless attack inflicted on your attacker.

Martial Charge specifically allows you to initiate a maneuver at the end of a charge (which is normally a full round action), effectively granting you a sort of pounce-like mechanic / granting you a free standard or full round action to use solely for initiating a maneuver.
Swift Claws, in the final, is:
Swift Claws
Thrashing Dragon (Strike)
Level: 1
Initiation Action: 1 standard action
Range: Melee attack
Target: One creature
Duration: InstantThe Thrashing Dragon disciple’s skill with his dual weapons allows him to strike with practiced speed and alacrity, allowing him to make an attack with two wielded weapons (or unarmed strikes), using the same attack action. Creatures with more than two arms may still only strike with two wielded weapons.
The initiation action is a standard action, which allows you to make an attack with two wielded weapons (a double weapon would count as two-wielded weapons, one end each being a weapon) as a single attack action (an attack action is a standard action used for an attack per the SRD).
So the answer is no; you'd charge (gaining your +2 to hit, -2 AC), and make one attack with each end of the double weapon at full BAB, minus two-weapon fighting penalties.
To your second question: No.
To answer your third question: Yes and no (since it was a two parter). You would be able to initiate those strikes at the end of a martial charge, but a pounce is a full attack at the end of a charge. Dragon Assault and Cornered Frenzy Strike are strikes, and mutually exclusive of a full attack (yes, I know they full attack as part of the maneuver, but you have to treat it as a maneuver / strike, not as a full attack because the actions used are different technically). So basically, if you have Martial Charge AND can Pounce, you would either Martial Charge OR you would Pounce, but not both.

It can't hurt to mention. There can be some confusion between damage dealt and damage taken.

Will this new material be part of the WiP series and therefore available along with the first four parts (which I own and are great). Just curious.
I believe it has been mentioned that it is going to be part of a seperate PoW2 release and eventually it could make it to a consolidated book if there was enough interest. I've been trying to follow here, DSP and the GitP forums so stuff tends to get muddled together so don't quote me on it.
Edit: Actually a post here by Jeremy (further up the page) mentions current classes & supplemental will go into PoW1 softcover and current play test material will be put into PoW2. I want to say the combined hardcover was mentioned over in DSP.

ErrantX |

Skylancer4's correct. PoW1 material is pretty much in the can, just a few 11th hour fixes and tweaks to go. I've already turned in everything at this point, and then we got a green light to add a few bonus features to the completed PoW1 book (both PDF and print, of course).
Path of War 2 will start with Harbinger for definite though, so consider that the dividing line between releases. Harbinger, the other two base classes, etc from there on out is PoW2.
