Playing in a play-by-post game is not too different from playing Pathfinder in person. The major differences is that it moves MUCH slower. Most people write a new post about once a day, although some post more and some less. That means that even a simple Pathfinder Society scenario that is only 25 pages long, can go on for weeks or even months.
One advantages of PBP is that it allows you a lot more time to come up with interesting descriptions of your character, develop relationships with other PCs, and create plots and posts that are much more literary than just: "I walk into the room and make a Perception check." PBP is actually more like an interactive short story (or novel for the longer games), and works best IMO when the GM and players treat it as such.

I understand getting games together on the forums can be hit-and-miss.
If you're still looking for a game, litte uke, I am trying to get a basic tier 1 Pathfinder Society scenario started via PbP.
If you're interested (or anyone else for that matter), see this thread.
