What's the penultimate trait in your area?

Pathfinder Society

What is the the penultimate most common trait you see used at your PFS tables?

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Reactionary. Most Pathfinders evidently had rough childhoods.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/55/5 **

Reactionary, followed by Magical Lineage. Adopted is also common.

Sovereign Court 4/5 5/5 ** RPG Superstar 2014 Top 32

Reactionary is the most common locally, although I've never taken it. Notable traits that my characters have taken include Valashmai Veteran, Narrows Survivor and Shadow Diplomacy. I tend to like the class skill traits.

Reactionary is the most common penultimate trait? Or the most common trait?

Why do you want to know the second most common trait? Odd Question...;)

I will start the Next thread now...

What's the Antepenultimate trait in your area? ;)

Silver Crusade 4/5

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Focused Mind.

But really, I have no idea what traits most of my fellow players have on their PCs. Unlike race, class, or even feat and spell choices, it's not something that frequently comes up in conversation at the table.

The Exchange 4/5 5/5

Now that it is PFS legal, magical knack is the penultimate trait in the area.

Reactionary is still ultimate.

Bonus answer: Adopted is the antepenultimate trait.

4/5 5/5

The top ten in this area (in no particular order) are probably Reactionary, Dirty Fighter, Resilient, Ease of Faith, Birthmark, Armor Expert, Indomitable Faith, Observant, Poverty-Stricken, and Deft Dodger. Reactionary leads by a long shot, though.

Out of the faction traits, Mind Over Matter and Tomb Raider are notably popular.

Dark Archive 4/5

Depends on the area one of my 16 PC's has reactionary (a monk), most of my traits are chosen to fill out the back story that no one will ever see for the PC.

Alot of my PC's have the "X of the Society" traits for whatever their level 1 class was (which most of the time is fighter)

Here's a quick guide, since it looks like you're confused about what "penultimate" means:

"Ultimate" means last. "Penultimate" means next-to-last. Third from the last is "antepenultimate." Fourth from the Last is an album by The W's.

Yup. When I say "ever notice how in season 0 the penultimate fight is tougher than the final battle", I'm not referring to both the final battle and the ultimate fight.

So I'd have to say something that grants a +1 to perform, or maybe craft.

On that note, indexing by trait type first (Religion is the last alphabetically) and then by name, Wolf Cub is the penultimate trait, including Ultimate Campaign (Wise Teacher was penultimate before that, and is now antepenultimate). The ultimate trait is Wrecking Wrath.

[Tongue in Cheek]Also, by strict RAW, you can't lose if you have the Wolf Cub trait[/Tongue in Cheek]

Liberty's Edge 2/5 *

I do not have a PC with the Reactionary trait.. and I have 10 pcs!

Silver Crusade 2/5

My new wizard(diviner) didn't take reactionary! He did take Warrior of Old, though.

Can we expect your penultimate post anytime soon? *fingers crossed*

Here, Focused Mind or Magical Lineage probably comes in second I would say. Possibly Dangerously Curious or Indomitable Faith.

Shadow Lodge 2/5

Reactionary in Minnesota. I think about half of my PC's have it too...

1/5

Reactionary, or a different trait that grants +2 init such as warrior of old (achievable by taking adopted by elves). That way you can take a different combat trait, and still get the +2 init that has pretty much become standard for character creation.

Dark Archive

Are the traits in Ultimate Campaign legal for society play? I can't find ultimate combat on the additional resourcse page.

4/5 **

There's your answer... no, they are not legal yet.

What one man calls a guide I call definitions. >:]

I'd say Armor Expert is the penultimate trait around these parts.

That sounds about right, although I might swap out Poverty-Stricken for Dangerously Curious in my experience.

2/5

Dangerously Curious is also very popular for any class that has a bit of charisma.

In order:
- Reactionary is the most common by far, probably because it's accessible and easy to understand by most players
- Adopted
- Magical Lineage
- Focused Mind
- Any trait that make useful skills like Perception, Use Magical Device, Disable Device, or Diplomacy class skills.

Dangerously Curious is also popular, but I think Poverty-Stricken just edges it out. Adopted, oddly enough, isn't popular at all in our region. And despite the local hubbub over Lessons of Chaldira, I think only two or three PCs have it. Granted, one of the characters who has it also has Fortified...

Same for my diviner wizard (4th level). Took Warrior of Old just because he could. :)

Warrior of Old is obviously better! Reactionary is common - can be taken by anyone. Warrior of Old is elitist and can only be taken by Elves! Although for Half-elves it is a toss up between Warrior of Old and Elven Reflexes which is better!

The Exchange 4/5

I'd say valamashi veteran for my characters at least. +4 perception from a trait is pretty insane, it's 2nd only to reactionary. Ease of faith is probably 3rd.

I have 10 PFS characters that exist (the 11th is just a name lol)

#1 Summoner, Valamashi Vet + Ease of Faith
#2 Magus, Magical Lineage, VV, *Reactionary, *Nimble Fingers (*additional traits)
#3 Cleric, VV, Reactionary
#4 MM Monk, Reactionary, Heirloom (trip)
#5 Oracle, Bully, Reactionary
#6 Conjurer, Reactionary, Tomb Raider (perception)
#7 Evoker, Magical Lineage, wayang Spell hunter
#8 Zen Archer, Lessens of Chaldira, Dangerously Curious
#9 Mad Dog Barb, Reactionary, Latent Psion
10 Witch, Reactionary, Tomb Raider (perception)

at least one of the reactionaries is Elven Reflexes or Warrior of Old ;P

If I don't have perception as a class skill, it's the #1 trait I take, reactionary is usually just because I'm lazy, and I don't have to remember it. the Evoker gets it as a class skill from his dip in draconic bloodline sorcerer.

The Magus started with VV and Nimble fingers, he took ML and reactionary at 5... right when he needed to be able to intensify shocking grasps :)

My latest character enjoys the following traits:

- Goblin Foolhardiness
- Wolf Cub
- Berserker of the Society

Liberty's Edge 3/5 5/5

The ENTIRE reason my Tengu Zen Archer is Andoran is because of Hunter's Eye. No penalty for my second range increment??? Don't mind if I do.

Hope you get more use out of it than my archer with it has.

Fighter 10/Cleric 1/Ranger 1
So not needed for proficiency, his first level was in Fighter.

And, in his entire PFS career, he has been in one fight where it even started beyond the first range increment.

Spoiler:
The final encounter of 2-08 The Sarkorian Prophecy started at a distance of 180 feet.

Just ran 22 Fingerprints of the Fiend has an encounter that could start even farther away, but it depends on the group. And, to be honest, from what I know of the encounter, the -2 penalty, for an archer build of the appropriate level, wouldn't much affect the probability of hitting the targets.

Flurry of Blows with a bow at 7th level: +5/+5/+0
Wisdom mod: +4 (Maybe lower, probably higher)
+1 Longbow
Weapon Focus: Longbow: +1
So: +11/+11/+6
For PFS22, still better than a 50% chance of hitting with the final shot, drops to 45% if in the second increment.

And that's at 7th level, without spending the ki point to increase the range increment by 50'...
