firearms vs split special ability ... damage then split or split then damage?

Rules Questions

Had a recent encounter with a gunslinger vs a black pudding. Firearms do both B and P. A black pudding splits when hit with P or S. This being said which happens first?

Does the pudding take the damage first from B and they split (2 puddingd with 50% Hp after damage)?

Does the pudding split (2 pudding with 50% Hp of original) and then the one takes damage from B?

Does it split and each take full damage from B?

Does it splitand each takes 50% of B?

I'd go with Split then damage.

I'd say damage then split. The damage happens first in this case, followed by the split. If you split and then damage, which pudding are you dealing the damage to? One? Both? It makes more sense to just damage first then split based on the "then current" HP after the damage.

Two replies, two different opinions .... no consensous. As much as I appreciate the answers, I still don't know which way to go.

Where are the rules junkies?

I would say that It would get damaged and then split.

If they were opinions, then both could be right simultaneously. These are matters of fact; only one of two conflicting positions can be correct (and sometimes, neither). Considering one position is supported with logic and the other is simply an unsubstantiated statement... well, that difference speaks for itself.

I agree with Kazaan's reading.

This would also apply to several kinds of natural attacks, primarily bites and claws, which deal bludgeoning damage as well as slashing and/or piercing damage.

I answer both. So it made sense to split then damage.

But if you are only damaging one then you can damage then split.

But then Split becomes like DR, if they deal enough it doesn't split.

Split is effect that is triggered by being subject to specific type of damage. If split was immediate action, opportunity attack or was described explicitly as taking place before triggering event then it could take effect before triggering event. None of this applies so the more sensible is that it takes place after the trigger.
