Need challenge ideas for Ogre / Troll Retirement village!

Advice

Hello once again Paizo community! After a severe car accident I am slowly getting back into the swing of things. Today I seek advice on a simple topic as you see.

Reason: A witch character within my campaign is seeking various elemental books (as required by her elemental "patron") each a spin of book of earth/fire/water/wind etc.

Besides the patron giving her the mission to collect all the books and feed them to her familiar (whose appearance changes depending on the book and how many so far has been eaten), she needs their power to face off with an enemy coven. A coven that arm-twisted her into joining them with the intent to rip her away from her elemental patron and realign her with their Shadow patron instead. They also will be holding the final book.

I want a hearty RP session involving a Troll and Ogre retirement community that happens to be in possession of one of the books (Book of Air).

So the request is simple - what circumstances can be going on that challenges the PCs in some way? Even if it's a goofy contest or request by the members of the retirement community :) Thanks ahead of time, and have fun!

Any test with ogres should be strength related.. even an old retired ogre should feel up to any strength based test...

- knocking a pole into the ground, using bare hands while naked
- Eating 1 whole Bison quickest
- Simple Armwrestling
- selfinflicting damage test
- weightlifting
- who can impregnate the most female trolls in 1 week (the answer wont come for a few months...)
- drinking contest

Do you use standart alignment??? if so, ogres are CE, and will humiliate the players as much as possible b4 using strengt to kill them...

but do remember that Oni's (ogre mage) are LE, and a bit harder to kill....

I love some of those ideas! (Not so much the impregnation idea).

In my setting Ogres/ Trolls / Goblins and the like are more or less "tame" and "civilized" due to historical reasons. So the truly evil ones tend to be as with human society - the exception, not the norm. So they won't actively be trying to kill the players except maybe one dastardly one.

What about with trolls? It'll be a mixed community.

I think any eating or drinking contest could work... or

- belching contest
- farting contest
- swimming contest (in very unclean water???)
- a simple who got the longest arm/leg/P***s/tooth/something

the bestiary says trolls are near fearless, so anything that can test the bravery or the stomack is good :)

Is this Golarion(default Pathfinder campaign setting)?

Is this some sort of custom campaign setting?

It sounds like ogres and trolls live in a kind of controlled, reservation setting? If so, maybe the witch would need to get them something they are restricted from having on their reservation. Procure and smuggle in contraband, maybe something society thinks (maybe rightly so) is too dangerous for ogres and trolls to have access to. The witch could later have to deal with the legal backlash if it is discovered that she was responsible for any negative outcome.

Or maybe they want what a lot of retired people of any type wants: a chance to feel young again. To recapture some of the joy and glory of their youth.

Are they like Xanth ogres? Then you can have a stupidity contest...

This is a custom setting. Though feel free to use the idea in your campaigns!! I wanted to have a different flavor of adventure that was truly different.

It isn't a reservation - just a retirement community :-)

I do like the idea of the desire to "feel young again".

Trolls: how many slashes can you take (and regenerate) before you pass out.

Ogres: ro-shambo!

The ultimate Troll contest: I bet I can eat this.

Ogre contest - Go kill something very big and tough.

Troll Contest - Must now cook it and must taste good! (Eating Contest for whole village and party)

Sort of reminds me of the Hunter X Hunter anime for one of the hunter tests. :-)

I don't know what the ogres and trolls in your setting would have done in their youth, but maybe stage a fake battle for them to be part of, or a fake raid on a village. Or you could take the oldsters on a field trip. Have you seen The Dream Team with Michael Keaton? Inmates of a mental institution go on a field trip and get separated from their doctor. I don't know if it would be the right tone for your campaign, but trying to herd some senile ogres and trolls through an eventful day in the big city could be an interesting challenge.

Okay. Custom campaign.

I was confused, because Pathfinder Ogres are horrible inbred rapist.

They are like down-syndrome sociopaths, who find nothing but the cruelest acts of rape, torture, and murder to be satisfying enough to perform time and time again.
These acts are performed upon any they can get their hands on, and swift death is the best a victim can hope for, as for most, it comes slowly and only after a victim is broken in mind, body, and soul.
Ogres possess no appreciation for anything beyond these evil torments, wild revels, lusty exertions, and the taste of savory, barbecued human meat.

So, you see my reason for confusion.

face off in an epic wrestling match with the head's visiting relatives.

alternatively (if you are too puny to compete), you can give them some wonderful food/alcohol to remind them of home and their younger days.

or have a wrestling party, with the party frontliners being the main attraction, and the others catering the food/drinks--give those old folks a night to talk about for years.

if they were dwarves, i'd say a game of Badunk.

I envision old ogres playing shuffleboard with halfling skulls

I guessing it would help for a brief description of what the trolls and ogres are like in your campaign so we can get an idea of how they will act. Alot of people will be going by the basic evil ones and use that knowledge for their answers.

They might want you to track down a relative that suppose to be visiting but never shows up. I seen many movies make note of people in retirement homes and such never getting visited by younger relatives.

They my think the player in question is in fact one of their younger relatives and thus offer some interesting RP moments.. do you go along with it or upset the old timer.

I also like the idea of sneaking in something that is not normally allowed to those on at the community.

pc's have to tell a better story then Grog the Troll story teller!

The latest episode of Workaholics may ofer some ideas.

You could play a game of blood bowl only have the PCs be one team and the ogres and trolls be the other. It could be neat and perhaps horrible.
