Howdy Folks!
I'm currently in a pickle. The players that I had originally used for this adventure had to bail out because of Real World Responsibilities... leaving just Me (DM) and 1 PC.
So I'm here hoping to snag 3-4 individuals to come on an adventure with me.
I should note that this game is not a PBP - but rather a live game. We'll be using GameTable, which is a nifty software designed as a digital mapping program where we can interact with pogs and art like a Real Game.
Since type chatting is annoying with dice macro results spamming in the channel, we'll be talking via TeamSpeak.
(Both programs are free, and I'll provide links).
I'm hoping that we can play this adventure once week to keep things going.
Without further adieu...
Base Creation Rules
Stats: 4d6, Drop Lowest ; 20point Buy ( 07 lowest stat )
Traits: 2 Traits ( Hopefully thematic )
Classes and Archetypes: CRB, APG, UC, UM (No summoner or Non Paizo) [Gunslinger is currently taken]
Races: Core Only
Starting Cash: Level 4 suggested Gold + Appropriate Class Max Gold
Starting Level: 4th
Alignment: Any Non-Evil.
Character Background: Something simple as to why you're in Nidal.
I should also point out, this game will be taking place on Tuesdays around 5pm - 9pm EST. ( Due to my schedule as well as my friend, this is really the only time slot we have to play this game ).
In any case, I look forward to character submissions.

(Taken from Paizo)
A horror and investigation adventure for 4th-level characters
The sleepy town of Karpad in shadow-haunted Nidal has long been overseen by the Boroi family, and until a few weeks ago, the citizens under Baron Stepan Boroi's rule have lived uneventful lives of relative peace. Recently, however, the outbreak of a virulent and fatal disease and a number of mysterious disappearances have left the people of Karpad paranoid and fearful. Even Baron Stepan has been acting strangely, and now the tenuous balance of racial tensions between Karpad's human and fetchling populations stands on the verge of collapsing into total anarchy. Can the PCs uncover the root of Karpad's problems and put an end to the deadly virus, the terrifying disappearances, and the miasma of fear and distrust that threatens to overwhelm the region?

I can offer several concepts, and the schedule sounds fine by me. Would any of the following fit your interest? I have a few other concepts as well, but they're so devoted to long range combat that they might infringe on what the Gunslinger player is doing and I wouldn't want to do that to them. The following should be complimentary to that PC, though!:
Human Fighter (Lore Warden, Horsechopper main weapon) of Milani, CG Align: A stern and serious, but intelligent and moral fighter whose primary motive to be in the Nidal region would be to work toward the direct overthrow of the Nidal court. She rejects the martyrdom aspects of Milani's faith, instead believing "when I fight for the freedom and well-being of others, I had best win; I'm risking them facing reprisals and 'crackdowns' by their oppressors if I fail. Thus I fully intend to fight intelligently and come back alive." Despite this focus, she's fine with detours to address others' suffering; there's no point in overthrowing oppression if those burdened under it are no longer alive or fit to enjoy their newfound freedom, after all. Thus she'll respond reasonably well to the problems in Karpad.
Primarily a light armor melee fighter with a Reach weapon. Has several Knowledge skills.
Elf Bard of Desna, CG Align: A traveling storyteller and motivational speaker. She intentionally acts silly or strange, regularly cracking jokes, in the hopes of keeping spirits high and making people think... and ideally have enemies underestimate her. Her motive to be in Nidal would be to encourage the populace and see if she can make their lives better, as well as learn more about this part of the world. Driven by curiosity, she has none of the typical elven haughtiness (though she might parody it to amuse herself or others).
Archer Bard, so a mix of spellcasting, stealth, social abilities, and the like. Vaguely passable melee combatant but does not favor it.
Human Fighter (Lore Warden, Bec De Corbin main weapon) of Sarenrae, NG Align: The daughter of a Tian Xia merchant family, she has traveled the world on various business trips and found herself attracted to the culture of Avistan... particularly Sarenrae's mix of strength and kindness. Friendly and polite, her reason to be in Nidal is one of broad benevolence; to help them in whatever ways might be practical. She is also a competent stage actress.
Primarily a light armor melee fighter with a Reach weapon, but also has several Knowledge skills and a decent Diplomacy rating.
Human Paladin of Sarenrae, LG Align: Youthful and energetic, this lady from a wealthy Andoran family felt her life was wasted by sitting in idle luxury. Her search for a purpose in life brought her to Sarenrae's faith, and her enthusiasm lead her down a Paladin's path. Slightly unintelligent, but not outright stupid or dangerously unaware, she prefers simple and honest approaches to most matters but will listen to the good advice of others if it doesn't directly contradict what's required of a Paladin. News of recent troubles in Nidal and specifically Karpad have drawn her to the region, feeling this would be a good cause to apply herself to.
Light armor melee fighter using a scimitar and light spiked shield. Also has a little healing and some Diplomacy abilities. Character is enthusiastic but a little dim (Int 8, Wis 7); this manifests as a willingness to let others do the heavier thinking. She'll cooperate with most of the party's plans unless they're unacceptable to a Paladin in general or Sarenrae's tenets in particular.
Please let me know if any of these are what you're looking for? I have Level 1 sheets (20 point buy) of all of them already created, so it wouldn't take too long to convert to Level 4 use.

I'm interested! The game time shouldn't be a problem; I'm on pacific time and usually work in the mornings, so I'm fairly positive that I can make game regularly. I do work in retail (cry) so I might get the occasional later shift.
If approved, I can provide a character before the weekend is out. :)

No time for crunch just yet, but the game time works out perfectly for me as I work a night shift and a grueling weekend shift. Tuesdays are my best free days. I'm thinking human wizard who works as an investigator specializing in either divination or illusion. Not sure if I'll add an archetype yet or not.
Named Caleb Wheatstraw, he has a habit of challenging the darker mysteries of his homeland of Nidal and exposing them to the light. It's a wonder that the Umbral Court hasn't either put bounty on his golden locked head or separated it from his shoulders. For now his keen mind and magic have kept him ahead of many noble entanglements while still serving the greater good of the people.

Alright, so I'm still waiting to hear on any additional folks that want to join the game. I'm thinking about closing the draft come this Saturday as to give people enough time to submit their ideas.
If all goes well, we could play this coming tuesday, Jan. 22nd @ 5pm EST. Or at worse, save it for the following week.
Anyways, here are my comments so far...
@Celestial Pegasus: I'm really liking the idea of the Lore Warden from Milani. My only concern is that why is she using a weapon favored by goblins?
@Zerceses: Divination or Illusion wizard sounds fine by me.
@Maybenever: Is there a particular cleric you want to play? You could also go down an Oracles path ( they're viable if you wanted something else).
@King of the Crossroads: Being that we have a Fighter, Gunslinger, Wizard and potentially a cleric, is there a particular class you wanted to play with? You didn't mention anything in your post...

Here we go. I decided to go 20 point buy after my rolls turned out so sour. The character sheet is here.
http://www.dndsheets.net/view.php?id=46982
And here's Caleb's background.
Background: Living in Nidal, Caleb was always a another addition to a family of weird folk. The Wheatstraws, Varisians originally named for their golden blonde hair, set down roots in Orolo's Quay and never left. Removed from the wider scrutiny of Nidal, they thrived there and took to providing services that no one else would or could in the dilapidated fort.
When he came of age, Caleb felt a powerful wanderlust hit him that took him from home and out into the wider world. He saw the suffering around him and decided to to do something about it in his own small way. Since then he's set himself up as a bit of a private investigator, taking cases that the regular law enforcement couldn't be bothered with, using knowledge and magic he's picked up over the years to solve them. Needless to say this has made him less than popular with some men and women of the upper crust, used to acting with anonymity and impunity. He knows he might end up on a rack someday (or worse), but it hasn't stopped him from doing the right thing and trying to bring a little light to Nidal's shadows.

@Celestial Pegasus: I'm really liking the idea of the Lore Warden from Milani. My only concern is that why is she using a weapon favored by goblins?
That's a good question, and I should admit that everything I've read up on the weapon is... confusing. Some sources simply say it's a competently designed halberd with an enlarged tripping hook, others say it's a very cobbled-together, low-quality polearm, etc.
What I'm looking at it for is the "Halberd, minus Brace but plus Reach" aspect. It would be a competently manufactured weapon that is basically a halberd in story appearance, but follows Horsechopper rules. Would this be okay? To me it's more properly representative of halberds than the core rulebook halberd is, so I wanted to go that route. Would this be okay?
Edit: Also, I've never made a character at any level other than 1. Just to be clear, how much GP is available for the character I'll be making for this? Are there any special rules on how said GP can or cannot be spent?

@[b]Celestial My only concern is that why is she using a weapon favored by goblins?
Not to overstep my bounds here, but it actually makes sense to me. Adventurers live off of the booty looted from the corpses of their foes. If I found an awesome weapon, I'd learn to use it, even if it came from a goblin. I'm pretty certain that the horsechopper would be at least master work...

![]() |

King of the Crossroads: That would be a fair rationale, but I was more going with the "it's really a halberd" interpretation some materials present. Others say they're cobbled together goblin polearms of poor quality. These are obviously mutually exclusive conclusions, but they both show up in Paizo materials insofar as I remember.
In the face of two official interpretations, I'm hoping to go with the one that presents it as a more general weapon. I really don't get why the core halberd lacks reach, and since the horsechopper stats are literally just the halberd, but remove Brace for Reach... well. I'm hoping it can be accepted in that style.

The weapon doesn't bother me in the slightest, it just seems a bit...odd to use something that is directly associated with an evil and mischevious race.
Though, I'm totally down with Celestial Pegasus using a horsechopper. It might make for a good roleplay element, like folks poking fun or intrigue at such a maligned tool.
"Hmmm, I'm thinking of either an alchemist, magus, or bard."
I'd think an alchemist is perfect for this adventure. Though, if you're more comfortable being something else, what do you have in mind?

Also, I'd like to mention that TeamSpeak works best with a microphone - inline mic's tend to capture everything in their playback making it an unbearable experience. Radioshacks or those mom'and'pop electronics stores might have a cheapy headset ~ $5 <-> $10 (I think? I rolled a decent appraise check)

"Were you able to see my sheet FratManCy?"
Ah yea, sorry about that.
Your character sheet looks fine.

@Maybenever
Oracles are fun IMHO. I've played 2(?). I prefer them over clerics - I like how their spells function like a Sorcerer, mysteries and their ailment make for an interesting character build.
I'm looking forward to what you've come up with.
= = =
Also, heres the links that I promised earlier.
Team Speak 3
On the day of the game, I'll link a server that we can play on.
I recommend getting 2.0. ( Pc / Mac friendly ).
The program's quite simple. You can make macros for just about anything (ie: Attack, Knowledge (???) Check, Will Saves, etc). And you just drag your character around on the grid.
Mind you, its nothing fancy. Just a big grid that we can manipulate into the setting of our adventure.
Also, if you're interested in making art for a pog, here's the format:
64x64 pixels
.png
Save the art into "pog's folder" (whereever you saved the gametable on your hd. )
*note: you'll need to change your pog folder's read only button off
(So the game can add any artwork while we're playing.)

Cy, would you be alright with me generally depicting it as "a halberd" in appearance? To me, the horsechopper's stats/game mechanics suggest they knew the original 3.5 halberd wasn't quite right and this is the 'corrected version.' That its performance, special abilities, and so on are balanced against various other 1d10 Reach polearms from the same book makes this seem sensible to me. It's mostly an art/fluff thing to me, and since Paizo's own write-ups seem to disagree on the proper nature of the weapon ( http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/weapon-descriptions/horse chopper outright calls it "a halberd", while other sources say it's cobbled together goblin junk), it would influence how the character is portrayed.
Edit: Also, which version of GameTable 2.0? They list numerous builds for it, all at least a year old.

Got some unfortunate news mates...
This may affect all or some of you, but I have to move the Midnight Mirror's game from Tuesdays 5pm-9pm EST to Mondays (keeping the same timeframe).
I currently work in retail and my shift got switched around....
So, if anyone's interested in playing, we should be convening for Monday January 28th. ( I feel like a college prof canceling class ). I would've planned it for this monday, but I'm pulling extra hours just for that day.
Despite the change, let me know if mondays work for you.
With that being said, I'm leaving the draft open until Wednesday.
Again, apologies friends.
= = =
On a side note, @Celestial Pegasus, thats fine. With the war scythe its the same story ( they still depict the farmer's tool instead of the real glaive-like weapon ).
= = =
For GameTable, use this one.

Oh and I'm baack.
Been sick the last few days, apparently there's a potent virus going around in the tri-state area ~ norovirus. Its alot like stomach flu, but more contagious.
Anyways, other than failing my constitution check, I've come to share some news with you all.
After careful consideration towards this game's draft, I'm gonna put the game to rest due to conflicting schedules. I'm even facing adjustments in my shift ( retail, go figure ). So, I just wanna say thank you to the folks who reached out - hopefully we'll be able to play again in the future.
I'm marking this thread closed.
