There is a new listing in the Available Sanctioned Events for Sanctioned APs, which includes Shattered Star and Rise of the Runelords 5th Anniversary edition.
Can we please get an update on how this is going to work?
I assume that credit won't be applied to PC's but DM's and Players will get some sort of boon? Maybe DM's will get Scenario Credit?
Please enlighten us...
It would be great to get some Society credit for running these Epic events.

That's funny. My son was just creating events to report some events he had run and saw the same thing. I bet we have a new announcement coming in tomorrow's blog :)
(I don't see the Chronicle sheets yet, but they are showing up in event creation and in the scenario section)|

There was a thread discussing this earlier today. I even posted in it. Now, not only is the thread missing, but the post isn't on my list of posts made. I detect a conspiracy...
Thank god. For a while I thought I was going insane about posting in that thread. Well more insane.
I think we may need to wait until tomorrows blog at the earliest for info.

Folks, we do have a plan in place to sanction Shattered Star and Rise of the Runelords. If those go over well, then we *may* consider sanctioning other APs.
No, we are not ready to discuss that anytime in the next week. I'm out this week and spending it with my family for the Thanksgiving holiday.
We still have a bit of work to do on our end. When we have all of our ducks in a row, we will introduce the new sanctioned APs, and how they work, in a Monday blog. It won't happen tomorrow and it won't happen the Monday after Thanksgiving. It may be the Monday after that. It may not. We need to make sure we have everything in working order and ready to go. We ask that you respect that decision and have some patience while we put the finishing touches on the process.
Have a great Thanksgiving!

I was starting Rise of the Runelords, but it just sorta died because I really also wanted to sustain the PFS group in our area. Putting them all together under the same campaign would be just amazing. Absolutely amazing. I am for this 100%.

As someone whose group is split between some who love PFS organised play, and some who would love to play something less episodic (like an AP), I'm intrigued to see how this will play out. I'll be waiting patiently for any announcement.
My knowledge of American holidays isn't great, but 'it won't happen the Monday after Thanksgiving. It may be the Monday after that. It may not.' means December 3rd at the very earliest, right? If so, then I know not to check back for at least two weeks. :)

thanks for the info, id like to run this for my local pfs groups, any idea on when it will be available? or should i just wait until the official announcement? i ask only because our local schedule is hectic, it would be nice to plan something (i assume will be) a long adventure.
I would honestly just wait. We have no idea how they are going to work, how much xp, are characters locked while playing an AP and will not be able to play other PFS scenarios in the meantime, etc... I would not want to give my players a wrong impression only to have to change it a few weeks later.

This is exactly what I wanted to read in this thread. Thank you for the update!

While I appreciate the effort, I have to ask if the energies put toward making this happen aren't better spent on other aspects of PFS. The Adventure Paths are so long and require such dedicated play that even if you play them for PFS credit you are effectively in a home game anyway, so what's the point?

Before an unpleasant argument breaks out about the value of sanctioning AP content and how it should or shouldn't be undertaken, consider that no one posting on this board has more information than Mike presented in his post above on how we're going to do it. So let me just cut off any flame wars at the pass. We love the enthusiasm and speculation but until we've announced this officially and the full rules for how it will work are made public, any discussion is just that—speculation. Please don't be too quick to judge without all the facts.
In the meantime, speculate away!

Do remember that the APs are designed to take characters from level 1 to 12 / 14 / 20 / etc. depending on the AP. So, how that's going to work in PFS, I don't know, but I'd be inclined to have a single PFS character go all the way through it. After all, an AP is intended to be a complete campaign in and of itself. The fact that it will be encapsulated within the larger PFS campaign shouldn't change that, I wouldn't think.
I do have one very serious concern for this concept, however. Recently, we ran through the Eyes of the Ten arc at our gaming store, and frankly it nearly killed Thursday night PFS. Many folks can only play one night a week, and Rise of the Runelords took the group I played it with nearly two years to finish, not just 7 weeks (we role-played a bit, and took 7 slots instead of 5 to play through EotT). I would be very concerned about starting an AP in PFS on a regular venue gaming night and literally killing PFS for that venue for all other Scenarios and Modules for the duration. If it ties up all of the GMs as players for an extended period of time, it's a problem.
I would love to hear if anyone else has this concern.

The efforts put into sanctioning APs aren't taking away from other aspects of PFS. And, we are planning to sanction in a way that is different than what you have alluded to here.

Mark, please see my prior post. I'm not trying to speculate, but I do have concerns that venues might die as a means of bringing in new players and keeping existing players, if APs replace standard scenarios at a venue. So, food for thought. If you're interested in my personal experience, I would welcome the discussion.

We are very cognizant that we don't want to destroy game days. We are working on a system to integrate sanctioned APs into a means they can be utilized, not work against, standard PFS play. Please give us a couple of weeks to get the last remaining items worked out and we will reveal our devious plot.

I just want to join the chorus saying that this is a REALLY, REALLY good idea. Yeah, there are potential issues but I'm confident that you'll come up with good solutions to them.
The biggest issue that I see is that I might have to totally rearrange my schedule so that I can completely free up Thursday evenings :-)

Questions for speculation: (also possible questions for the PFS Campaign Staff to address before rolling this program out)
Obviously the APs have multiple levels in each module (?), do we think the Chronicles for the Sanctioned APs are by Act? there by granting the PC's a possible appropriate leveling?
How would they interect with a player moving in and of the AP to the normal PFS campaign? Specifically, am i able to play through the AP get to lv 12, go through the Eyes of the Ten, then go back to the AP?
... also how freaking cool would it be to have one character go through Rise then Eyes of the Ten and finish Rise, then have thier protoge go though Shattered Star?

One last note. The reason we haven't posted all of the rules for how this will work publicly yet is that we are in the midst of a big discussion with all of the Venture-Captains, and we've been closely analyzing every aspect of how this might work. So please be a bit more patient as we work out the final detail. Once we have something worth sharing, you can be pretty sure it has been put through its paces very rigorously, and that all sides of virtually every argument for, against, and how has been carefully weighed and discussed by lots and lots of people.

I understand folks have a lot of questions about how this is going to work, but Mike and I (and anyone else who knows what form it's going to take) aren't going to be answering any specific questions until such a time as the content is officially sanctioned. But your questions will be answered at that time, I promise. Good things come to those who wait.

So ... cool. Must ... not ... aarrrggghhh.
This is most of the folks who know.
The phrase we have to say is...'wait for it'.And my own addition. 'Give Mike/Mark and company time to enjoy thanksgiving too. They work too hard."
I'm sure the facts will be much better than any rumors you see here.
Meanwhile check out today's blog post.

I love speculating.
My guess is that it's going to be one of 2 things.
We're either going to see something very similar to the PFS sheets from thornkeep, with instructions like "once the PCs have completed blah, give them this chronicle"
OR
It's not going to apply normal chronicles to characters, and simply give various boons, while applying GM credit. Making it a very cool tie in, without having PFS characters that are built just running through the APs and never doing any other actual PFSing.
Again pure speculation and maybe just wishful thinking (If PC credit/gold/ect is going to happen I would expect my first one to be a strong possibility since thornkeep is kind of a mini AP.)
I think it might actually be cooler to just open up item boons and special mounts/familiars/spells/artifacts/PP boons/whatever else while just letting people apply that stuff to their PFS characters for reporting APs but not have that character be the required one :D
YAY GUESSING GAMES! my money would be on a thornkeep style layout, with perhaps extra PP boons in there for the APs less important tasks (since 4PP/module puts you a bit behind the PP curve, lets be honest)

I expect that playing individual parts of "Shattered Star" will give a PC two levels' worth of credit.
I also speculate that the new rules will allow the PCs to use Magic Item crafting rules, and the Leadership feat, and the Critical Hits and Fumble decks. And Allow us to play Todd Morgan as a legal PC race.
I speculate that I may be mistaken.

Oh, man that PC race may be a bit much, Chris, it's a bit over powered for society play don't you think?
