Any interest in a White Wolf Scion game on these boards?


I am interested. Do you have an idea what pantheons you are permitting? Do you have an over-all plot idea beyond the core put forward in the book?


I'd like to try it. I'm partial to the greco/roman pantheon or the norse pantheon though


I would be allowing all published pantheons, andthe campaign would be roughly a cross between Supernatural (travelling Band of Fatewoven people fight titanspawn and monaters when they cause trouble) and a classic McGuffin hunt (I think for a living McGuffin, probably a certain child). This thread is intended to see if I even should hammer out an idea, though it seems the answer is yes.

I have never tried to play scion but would be interested. I would like to play with pantheon at least a little familiar so Greek, Norse and Egyptian


Well all pantheons would be allowed, and each character being from a different one would be not only allowed but encouraged


So, do you have Character Creation Guidelines? Points breakdown & such?


I'm currently away from my books, but as I'm fairly new to DMing Scion, it will likely be as close to the default as possible. I'll be posting those guidelines tonight when I'm nearer my books.

All right, dot breakdown is as follows

Attributes: Primary 8, Secondary 6, Tertiary 4
Abilities: 30 Points
Birthrights: 5 Points, No Birthright higher than 3 dots without Bonus XP
Epic Atrributes and Boons: 10 Points, No single Epic Attribute or Boon may equal or Exceed your Legend Score, Epic Attribute costs 1 Point, Boons cost points equal to dots.
Virtues: 5 Points, None above 4 dots without Bonus XP
Bonus XP: 15 Points, Spend according to table on Page 101

Essentially the totals on Page 101 are all correct, since that's the default and not being incredibly familiar with the rules (I've played a game, but never ran one) I'd prefer not to change the default.

What are the Abilities Lists?
What are the Birthrights?
What are the Boons?
Is Legend your 'Power' Trait?
What are the Virtues? Are they the same as the Exalted Virtues?
What are the Bonus XP costs for things? Are they the same as Exalted Costs for things?

Scion is pretty different from other White Wolf products even from Exalted, explaining it all isn't just possible here IMO.

Sadly I think you need the book in order to play.

I'm afraid I'd have to agree, Scion is significantly different than other games and is pretty tough to explain in some cases.


All right, I've decided I'm definitely running this. I'd like to take 4-6 characters from varying gods and pantheons, each one having already had their Visitation (however far back you might choose) and a well written backstory. The game will begin in Las Vegas with none of the characters knowing one another, and Fate will take things from there.

I expect quite the mix, and I'm a fan of descriptive campaigns so the more descriptive you are the happier I am (as well as the more stunting bonii you'll get). There likely won't be much mystery, beyond the occasional "who/what are we dealing with and what/who does it want."

I am definitely interested. I have favorites from all the campaigns so I will just have to settle on one of them. I will see how things are shaping up and put my character in for consideration tomorrow.

Here's my character's Background:

BACKGROUND:
Born 25 years ago near Rome, Bella and her twin sister, Leona were raised by their loving mother until their tenth birthday. Then two men in military garb just walked to their classroom and “took them into custody for their own safety”. No one questioned their authority, no one tried to stop them, no one found the thing unusual. Later on, no one even remembered what exactly had happened, just that the girls were taken away by someone for what, at the time seemed a very good reason.
What really happened was the girls were kidnapped. But the abductors were not two common men, they were two sworn brothers of the ancient (and dreaded) “Band of the Bloody Hand”, an international group of mercenaries (even if they favor the term “contractors” in this day and age) founded during the Dark Ages just after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. A band of men and women worshipping Ares as War for its own sake and using the pretense of working for money to cover their real agenda: to spread war and to create the perfect soldier, in preparation for the glorious day when the whole globe will burn in the flames of all cleansing war. Their motto “Bellum omnium contra omnes”, or “war of all against all”. A cadre of assassins with mundane and supernatural means at their disposal. Creatures knowing all to well the truth about Bella and Leona’s father. Their god, Ares.
The girls were brought to one of the many training facilities the Band possessed, on a small island near the coast of Morocco. They were not the first children of the god of war the Band snatched, as they had done so several times through the ages, so they knew exactly how to treat them non-stop physical and military training and constant brainwashing (both subtle and overt) in order to forge new weapons for the glory of the War God.
Many others had fallen to this treatment, yet Bella and Leona managed to keep a shred of their humanity intact. They complied to requests with perfect efficiency, but deep inside they knew they remembered who they used to be, but while Leona took a fatalistic approach and accepted the inevitability of what she was becoming, Bella kept the flame of hope hidden, but alive. So while she learned all the possible ways to kill with gun, sword and bare hands and memorized battle tactics from a thousand different wars, Bella also fought a very different battle to keep what made her human alive.
As their training came to a close as they approached the age of twenty, the twins were introduces to the last rite of the Band: all the “recruits” were to be tested against each others to determine those worthy of being “graduating” into full membership. As the acceptable number of new members was 5, that meant the “class” was to be divided in 5 groups, each group would be dropped in some inhospitable place and the participants would have to “determine the most worthy among them”. In other words they’d have to kill each other until one remained. This was done not only to test the recruits’ skills but also to gauge their ferocity and amorality. For these reasons Bella and Leona were assigned to the same group, as their tie was considered an hindrance by the Band’s top brass.
So it was Bella, Leona and 3 others were drugged delivered to some god forsaken place in the middle of the Congo rainforest. There they found and slaughtered each other until only the twins were left. As they met, they knew they were being watched. They fought, waving a complicate and deadly dance among the dead leaves of the tropical trees all around them. As they sparred they searched for their overseer’s position and finally found it. Then they moved slowly towards him, still fighting and when they judged to be near enough they sprang on him. The surprise attack worked as the man fell to their blades. Once that was done Bella wanted to escape, as that was the chance they had waited for, but Leona shook her head, sadly, claiming she just knew the Band was never letting them go and was sure to hunt them down. They had proven their worth killing their handler, and thus liberating one more place into the membership. Bella was startled, as she realized her sister had come to accept her training. Without a word Bella turned her back on her sister and ran away into the forest.
Several days later, as she was sleeping in a cave Bella was woken by a presence near her. She awoke with a jump but she was frozen in terror as she saw the towering entity filling the cavern with his figure. It was a tall bearded man, dressed in military garb and emanating an aura of impossible menace and dread. Immediately Bella knew she was in the presence of her estranged father, the God of War, Ares. For a moment all words failed the girl, then, remembering all what she suffered in his name, something inside her snapped: “So you have come to finish what your dogs could not, father? Are you here to do your bloody work and kill your daughter? So be it! But don’t expect me to go down quietly!”.
Ares answer to this tirade was a moment of silence followed by resounding laughter: “No, daughter, I’m not here to kill you. I’m here to praise you just as I praised your sister, although for different reasons. You have proven your mettle, daughter. You fought the odds and triumphed keeping your spirit intact! So here I am, to acknowledge you as my true daughter. This is a small sign of my benevolence”. As he said that Ares throw a black leather gauntlet stained with copious amounts of blood towards Bella.
“I don’t want your gifts! I don’t want anything from you! You ruined my life, you ruined my sister’s life! You are a tyrant and a murderer, and I don’t want anything from you!” cried Bella, taking the gauntlet and throwing it back towards the god who took a serious and dark tone: “You are correct. I’m all of that and more. I can’t say I was aware of you and your sister until your actions proved yourselves but I certainly approve of my hounds methods. I also approve of your rebellion. I approve of conflict as I am war and ultimately all of this will lead to more glorious war. So here’s how things are going to be, little girl: the gift is given and it’s yours. Do with it as you please I don’t care. It might interest you that your sister, who proved to be such a disciplined soldier, received its twin, and accepted it graciously though. And if I understand correctly my hounds have taken a liking to her… after all I praised her as the perfect soldier in front of them all as I visited her. Conversely I informed them you stole this very gauntlet… They weren’t pleased as they are somehow significant to their brotherhood and you deserted their ranks. I suspect they won’t spare any effort to hunt you down. So maybe this gauntlet may be something that will help you stay alive. Take it or not I’m sure I’ll enjoy the results of your choice”. That said Ares smirked smiled, viciously and disappeared leaving only a faint trace of spilled blood in the air.
Bella spent the rest of the night deciding what to do with the gauntlet: although it repulsed her it was obviously a powerful resource, and something she would need in order to survive the Band’s revenge who was sure to follow. In the end she decided to take it. No matter what it was meant for, she swore she would use it only for protection and justice. The gauntlet seemed unremarkable at first but once she tried it on Bella discovered its purpose, by concentrating on a melee weapon the gauntlet could transform in it. The weapon would be a perfect exemplar of its kind but always stained with blood, as she later discovered its name was “Omnes Arma” or simply “All Weapons”.
For the next several months Bella lived as a fugitive, hunted by the Band and without any other goal but survival, travelling through Africa as she escaped. It was in a bazaar near Cairo that she found a new purpose: while hiding in a bar she was approached by a woman, dressed in white. The woman presented herself as Larys, a follower of Athena and claimed her patron had seen her plight and decided to help her. Her offer was simple: she could provide the means to right the wrongs done to her and to thwart her father’s amusement. Larys could provide a list of worthy causes, people oppressed and manipulated by warmongers and money grubbers, and above all their masters pulling their strings from the shadows. She could also provide respite from those hunting her, and in time, the means to bring righteous war to them. Bella studied the woman for a long time, undecided if to trust her or not. Then, considering that was as good an offer as she was going to get she shrugged and accepted. To symbolize the deal she was given a signet bearing Athena’s Owl effigies.
Thus far the new alliance has proven beneficial for Bella: the Band seems to have lost her trail and she has started to do some real, meaningful good. And although she doesn’t completely trust (but she might have some problems to trust anyone at this point) her liaison it has always proven honest with her.
Her modus operandi is always the same: she’s given a dossier about a certain situation. She confirms it and goes to work. She finds the oppressed group, gains their trust, trains them in military fashion and when she considers them ready they strike back at their oppressors, meanwhile Bella slips into the shadows and brings war to the puppet masters.
In Egypt Bella formed small cadres of young students and planted the seeds for resistance against military and fundamentalist oppression. In Sicily she rallied shop owners and common people to fight off the Mafia and corrupted State officials alike. In England she formed a punk underground movement to fight back against police brutality. In Washington she infiltrated some protestor groups and gave them the training they needed to not be trashed at the first charge of the police.
All in all Bella’s still fighting. She doesn’t mind as long as it means something, for she knows war is the law of the world, and conflict is unavoidable, but she wants to give the weak a chance to fight for themselves and claim a fleeting moment of peace. That peace she knows she will always be denied.
Her last assignment came to her recently and it was Intel on a series of mob controlled casinos hiding a prostitution ring with kidnapped girls taken from illegal immigrant families. Thus she moved to Las Vegas, ready to start another project…

Agh. I'm so very interested in this idea, but have no access whatsoever to the books. I'm gonna go see if I can find somewhere they'll let me give them my money, but for now dotting this.


Damn, I had hoped these board issues would get sorted out and lead me to getting a few of these done when I was back... I suppose not.
