Quote:Monk: David Carradine in Kung Fu, Kevin Sorbo as HerculesI think Sorbo's Hercules would be more akin to an unarmed fighter than a monk. His buddy Iolaus, played by Michael Hurst, would be a monk.
Xena's friend Gabrielle, played by Renee O'Connor, might be a monk/bard.
As long as we're on the Hercules/Xena show, don't forget Bruce Campbell's character, Autolycus: The King of Theives. What a roguish man!
Kull the Conquerer would be another barbarian. He even used an ax as his weapon. What? No one has ever heard of Kull the Conquerer? Come on! It was fantastically horrible!
The new Snow White and the Huntsman movie has a fantastic two weapon ax fighter in it.
Kull may have sucked as a film...but it's a great book! :D

How about some marvel characters? :)
Hulk: Barbarian (obviously)
Captain America: Fighter
Hawkeye: Ranger
Iron Man: This one's tricky, any character wearing a construct as armor?
Thor: Fighter or Barbarian
Black Widow: Gunslinger or Monk/RangerWolverine: Barbarian or Ranger (maybe a multiclass or gestalt of those two)
Spider-Man: Rogue/Monk or maybe Ranger
Storm: Sorcerer (Elemental/Stormborn) or Oracle (Wind)
Dr. Strange: Sorcerer
Human Torch: Sorcerer (Elemental) or Oracle (Fire)
Invisible Woman: Sorcerer i think?
Jean Grey: Sorcerer (Elemental)/Psionic gestalt?___
Garnet/Dagger from Final Fantasy IX: Summoner/Cleric
Ryu from Breath of Fire: Magusok can't think of anything else atm
Ok for the most part. But I'd list Captain America as a Paladin.

The Shaman |

Hmm, some more from my anime experience:
Sorcerer/Psion/Wilder (depending on whether Psionics is allowed): Robin from Witch Hunter Robin
Fighter: Jubei Kibagami from Ninja Scroll, Kenshin Himura from Rurouni Kenshin
Magus / Psychic Warrior: the warriors from Claymore
BTW, another vote for Iron Man being a synthesist summoner.

Why the heck no one has mentioned Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken? He's pretty much THE monk. Inhuman streng into fist, complete control over his body metabolism, extremely acute senses. And, for god's sake, don't tell me Quivering Palm doesn't have verbal component "you are alredy dead!".
Also Flurry of Blows

Actually, I had him as a Cavalier when I did my builds for superheroes in Pathfinder. Though I admit, this was largely to contrast him with Superman, who was the Paladin.
Other ones I had were:
Green Goblin: Alchemist (Goblin Bomber)
Iron Man: Wizard (in mage's Armor, with a bunch of blasty-spells)
Some I did later were done as Gestalts:
Spider-man was Rogue/Sorcerer(for web spells, mostly), I think, though honestly Bard (possibly Archaeologist) or Monk might be better to replace Rogue
Thor was Barbarian/Oracle (Wind)
I think I redid Iron Man as Wizard/Fighter
Wolverine was a Barbarian/Samurai(Ronin)
The Joker was Bard/Alchemist
And of course, Doomsday was the Tarrasque

Is Saint Seiya a Monk too (maybe some Armor-friendly archetype) ?
In the Highlander movie, the Kurgan is a wonderful Anti-Paladin. Ramirez is a Paladin or maybe a Samourai. Connor McLeod is clueless (a Fighter or a Rogue I guess).
I pretty much disagree with you highlander character.
Kurgan was a barbarianRamirez was a lore warden fighter/ rogue/ duelist
Connor was a straight fighter a ranger multiclass

Tokugawa Ieyasu - a monk. A badass monk. You heard me, haters.
Shimazu Yoshihiru - old powerstriking barbarian who can and does ragepounce
Date Masamune - incredibly eccentric samurai (six claws!)
Sanada Yukimura - hot blooded monkey grip using fighter
Kuroda Kanbe - despair-filled unlucky barbarian with a flail
Takeda Shingen - most tactical barbarian leader ever
Uesugi Kenshin - ambiguously gendered magus with iaido and ice magic
Ōtani Yoshitsugu - oracle with lame curse and his floating palanquin
Saika Magoichi - gunglinger girl with a mercenary army

Oichi - haunted oracle. Poor poor crazed Ichi...
Sarutobi Sasuke - the archetypical ninja, with an ironic weapon
Fūma Kotarō - the other ninja, inventor of the shuriken type that bears his name
Kasuga - the kunoichi, or token female ninja
Maeda Keiji - happy go lucky ronin
Honda(m) Tadakatsu - IS A FREAKING MECHA...or synthesist summoner.
Motochika Chōsokabe - Pirate. Rogue. Fights with an anchor-harpoon.
Mōri Motonari - callous, conniving sorcerer with a splitting chakram for a weapon
Oda Nobunaga - for this iteration, surprisingly, a musketeer to reflect gun and sword in accord
Tenkai* - CLAIMS to be a monk
Mogami Yoshiaki - weasel-y swashbuckler type
Kobayakawa Hideaki - almost worth refluffing a barbarian running on fear instead of rage
Ōtomo Sōrin - Alchemist/Artificer! Devoted Xavist! PRAISE XAVI!!!
Xavi - Gunslinger. Engineer. 'Holy' Man. Lunatic.
Mori Ranmaru - plucky little archer

Imagawa Yoshimoto - disco dancing idiot bard who makes his troops morale flutter
Hōjō Ujimasa - Elderly warrior with a polearm that he can barely carry anymore.
Azai Nagamasa - Paladin! Tsundere for Oichi! Tragic..
Honganji Kennyo - staff-using monk of EXTREME machoness.
Katakura Kojūrō - samurai, retainer to Masamune Date.
Matsunaga Hisahide - jerkass alchemist, possibly sorcerer or magus, thief of precious things

No one particularly stands out as a cavalier, excluding Date. Wizard and Clerics are in short supply.

Sorcerer = Jareth
Rogue = Hoggle
Druid = Ludo
Cavalier = Sir Didymus
Bard = Sarah (or maybe just a rogue with social skills emphasis)
How so? I think just about everything he does can be explained with illusion and transmutation spells.

Kirth Gersen |

Cleric - Archbishop Turpin from the Chanson de Roland.
Fighter - John Carter in Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Mars" books.
Monk - Remo Williams and Chiun in Warren Murphy's "Destroyer" books.
Paladin - Ogier the Dane ("Holger") in Poul Anderson's Three Hearts and Three Lions.
Rogue - Cugel the Clever in Jack Vance's Eyes of the Overworld.
Wizard - Prospero and Roger in John Bellairs' The Face in the Frost

Just about every character from Dune works.
The Bene Gesserit on Arrakis is a nature oracle, and you could argue that the Mentats are Lore Oracles with addiction curses. Alia works quite well as a haunted oracle.
Otherwise, I would put Bene Gesserit into the Cloistered Monk category, the Spacing Guild into Divining/Teleportative wizards and the Tleiaxu (sp?) into vivisectionist alchemists.
Additionally, psions would probably be a better fit for the prescience and mind altered states of most characters.
