Congrats, Kajehase! You got some braggin' rights now!

Yeah, hey Paizo, don't forget to put a special thanks/author credit in there for him and pay him his 10 cents or whatever the going rate per word is for freelancing. :P

Maybe just give him a unique "Adventure Path Name Guru" forum tag

5) The word "wrath" is a deadly sin, and demons are associated with those things, so it fits thematically with an AP that's about lots of demons.

It's also probably the best associate to demons among all the seven sins, with devils taking the bulk of the other sins.

Too late there. That boat sailed years ago.

In Pathifnder, sin is what makes a demon. It's really tied in with each demon—each and every demon is what happens when a mortal sin interacts with the raw quintessence of the Abyss and forms a new outsider. Wrath makes vrocks. Lust makes succubi. Sloth makes dretches. And it goes beyond even the classic deadly sins. Necrophilia makes vermleks. Arson makes brimoraks. Murder makes babaus.

Devils are more about other things than they are about sin.

There's already plans to thank him/her/it.

In fact, if you're reading this, Kajehase... shoot me an email!

Ok. Got the clearance from Up High.

Here are the titles that got written down in my Moleskin notebook as possibilities, along with reasons why they ended up NOT being the right title:

The Worldwound Redemption: "Worldwound" is a somewhat awkward word for some folks to say. It's also not a word that means anything to someone who doesn't know about Golarion. Since our distributors don't necessarily know about Golarion stuff, this word doesn't mean anything to them. Using the word "Worldwound" in a single adventure title is less onerous than branding an entire Adventure Path with that word. Furthermore... the adventure path isn't actually about redeeming the actual Worldwound, and that's the BIG reason this title didn't make it—it's just not accurate.

The Apocalypse Plague: A cool name, but not for an adventure path about fighting demons. "Plague" means sickness, and disease and sickness may have metaphorical elements in this adventure path, but there's not an actual plague going on. Again... this title is not accurate. Also... it abbreviates to AP. The AP AP sounds silly.

Mythic Crusade: Too generic.

Demonbane: I like one-word titles when we can get them, but in the end, "Demonbane" is just not descriptive enough. It's also a made-up word, although it's pretty obvious what it means... it's still not as strong as a real word.

Wounded World: "Wounded" is still kinda hard to say for some folks. And it's not the WHOLE world that's suffering.

Dawn Crusade: A cool name, but Dawn is more associated with Sarenrae than Iomedae, and while Sarenrae will have some play in this AP, Iomedae's the more important one. Naming the AP after someone other than Iomedae is silly.

The Redemption Crusade: Same basic problem with "The Worldwound Crusade."

And those were the ones that got written down. If folks want to ask about other popular ones that I didn't think were worth writing down... ask away.

Thanks for the insight. I wasnt even considering commercial requirements - probably even more important, in retrospect. Given the fans will end up acronysing whatever you choose anyway, making it unpalatable to distributors could do potentially more damage than if it's something the fans dont like.

.
In lieu of the Carrion Crown experience, make sure you write it down somewhere... :)

Aww... Missed it by *that* much! Now I just have to wait for the official title to be posted and I could be a wiener and claim, "That's exactly what I was going to propose!" :P

Just to keep to my word. But I guess I was lying; I wouldn't propose that in a million years so no stealing thunder here. Congrats, Kajehase! :D

And very classy to include some recognition. Thanks for sharing the deliberation process. :)

Kajehase ~ Way to go! =)

I like the title. Plus, "Wrath of the Righteous" sounds kind of hypocritical, which kind of fits into the idea of it being about redemption.

I wasn't entirely pleased with any of the suggestions I came up with, though I still kind of like the idea of trying to find a parallel between literal and figurative injuries somehow.

Congratulations to Kajehase and to James for finding a title he liked for the AP!

Works for me. Much better than Demonblight Crusade. The coolest thing, though, is how Paizo yet again reaches out to the fans.

Agreed - it's an excellent title. This was one of the suggestions that actually sounded like an Adventure Path. Lots of folks came up with stuff that sounded like Modules, but few actual AP titles.

I do hope that the AP is going to include some tough moral choices for good characters to make while fighting the evil. It fits in with the idea of the righteous sinning while trying to do the greater good.

Congrats Kajehase!

There's something I love about Wrath of the Righteous. I mean, others APs talk about villains, their plans or their thingies (Rise of the Runelords, Jade Regent, Second Darkness, Curse of the Crimson Throne, Carrion Crown,...). Wrath of the Righteous it's a badass name and it talks about heroes.

2) It abbreviates to WotR which isn't a disguised curse word and doesn't match any other AP abbreviation.

But that abbreviation is terribly misleading about the theme and content!

Spoiler:
Polish "łotr", pronounced as "wotr", means rogue/scoundrel.

My Demonbane was one of the titles considered?! Damn those Swedese! They'll strike us, Poles, when we are at our heightest.

EDIT: After rereading what I wrote, now I think that the abbreviation sounds quite fitting...

Spoiler:
Consecrated explosive runes!

Huzzah Kajehase!

James Jacobs wrote:

The AP itself?

"Wrath of the Righteous."

Will the Fifth Crusade be called "The Righteous Crusade" or "War of the Righteous" then?

As an aside, WotR, is also the acronym for Middle Earth's "War of the Ring."

We know what happened the The Balrog in that one.

You know, it occurs to me that the fight between Gandalf and the Balrog is very symbolic to the AP.

Nope; the Fifth Crusade will still be called the Fifth Crusade. But by not putting that in giant letters on any covers so that it's out of context, we (hopefully) avoid folks interpreting it as "the Crusade against Fifth Edition." Which would suck and would make me very sad.

I'm not worried about "WotR" being the same acronym for War of the Ring at all. First of all, we don't actually refer to our adventure paths in print via acronyms, so that won't be a problem. Second of all, if I start worrying about what the acronyms mean at that point... I need a time machine to go back and change all the "SS" adventure paths...

As long as they are not stylized as thunders...

Spoiler:
Does it count as Godwin's Law application?

Changing the titles? Changing the story? Changing the "Gameplay"? Multi-changes?
