you can actually buy a +1 mithril breastplate without worrying about fame, its just the +2 thats the pain (as its the total item cost putting it just over the 8k threshold meaning you need a significant amount of fame for the +2).
Remember if you are a rogue you better have a 0 ACP (through traits or feats) or medium armor proficiency or you take penalties to your attack rolls for being non proficient (as its still medium for proficiency just light for everything else)

Ah, so to upgrade it to to +2 i need to have fame equal to the total price of the object? Or I just need fame enough to get the upgrade cost?
I'm a magus with med armor prof, so it's the best armor (at least till i scour the books for a better medium armor to mithril).
You need fame equal to the total cost of the item. So a +1 Mithral Breastplate (5,200 gp) is always available but a +2 Mithral Breastplate has a total cost of 8,200 gp (and therefore has to wait until you have 27 fame) but will only cost you 3000 to upgrade.

Yup. All non-magical items are always available.
Sorry, not quite true.
Firearms now follow the magic item rules instead of the mundane item rules for availability.
To be honest, there are a few too many drawbacks to that general rule, IMO. If your newbie Gunslinger's starting gun explodes, you are better off starting a new PC, if he doesn't have at least 9 Fame.
Again, IMO, pistols, muskets and blunderbusses, i.e. the same as the starting weapons, should be purchasable (with the Gunsmith feat proviso) without requiring a minimum amount of Fame...

You can always cough up the gold to get a Make Whole cast on the exploded gun. Maybe not the best solution while you're in the field, but it does get the 'slinger back in the game prior to the 9 Fame threshold.

Would a mending cantrip work on those broken firearms? I know lots of spellcasters have that.

That cantrip has a weight limit imposed on it by caster level [1 pound/CL], so you'd need to have at least a couple levels in caster. Some GMs might balk at the idea of a 0 level spell fixing something as complex as a firearm, so you might run into some GM variation.

All the other materials can be mined or harvested. You have to slay a dragon to get dragonhide. So it will only be on chronicles and you only get it if your group killed the dragon in the adventure.

It doesn't show up on the always available list but doesn't it show up on the "i have the prestige to buy it" list?

Incorrect. You don't have to get it from a chronicle - you can buy it as normal based on your total Fame score, like any other legal item. It's just not "always available".

I don't think they did, but I have a theory. If you read the text, dragonhide armor gives you a discount on cost to upgrade it to any kind of resistance armor based on what kind of dragon hide it is (upgrading red dragon hide to armor with fire resistance, for example). Mithril, admantine and darkwood don't give discounts on future upgrades. I think maybe that has something to do with it.

This came up in a game again tonight.
Looking through the updated PFS guide.
+1 Mithril breast plate can be purchased as soon as you have the gold.
Dragon armor you still need the Fame.
Are there any other special materials that need fame? Any recent update on these rules?
Thanks,
Baronjett
Rules updates are in the Guide to PFS, there is also the FAQ you can check, Addition Resources will let you know what is legal from the different books, and there is also a clarification thread but I can't find the URL for it right now.

I hear there is a farm outside Absalom where they raise dragons and harvest them for their hides. It's similar to the one outside Katapesh that raises Nagas.

This is how I think it should work, but as others have mentioned, you can buy dragonhide with 2pp, or when you have enough fame.
