Build for Catch of Guard and Throw Anything

Advice

What type of char would you build to make your main fighting style using whatever is around?

Also how do you get around not having your weapons enchanted?

Ideas? I love the feats, just don't know how to make them effective really.

Liberty's Edge

Maybe by using the "flat-footed" part of the feat to your advantage and going with rogue/ninja/vivisectionist? If you could reliably disarm enemies and get sneak attack damage the lack of enhancements on your weapons hopefully wouldn't hurt you too much.

I should also point out that the Cad fighter archetype may also be helpful: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo---fig hter-archetypes/cad

its very simple, you have your team caster use shrink object + permancy then you toss large boulders on top of people crushing them. you can , in theory, enchant anything in the game as a weapon. so have fun making your chair you carry around +5 and bane.

Breaker Barbarian, and focus on using arrows as weapons.
Take two levels in Ranger to get Weapon Focus(Arrow).
Use the Rough and Ready trait to get an extra bonus to attacks.
Use Durable arrows, and select a number of special material arrows to help with DR. Carry some Large and Huge sized durable arrows to wield with two hands and power attack with.
Special arrows like smoke arrows, tangleshot arrows, trip arrows, and splintercloud arrows will give you more options.
You can enchant, or have magic weapon cast upon them, but the magic will only last for one hit.
A wand of abundant ammunition is your friend.
Also, you will never have to worry about quick draw, as they are ammunition.

Useful only against unarmed opponents. Which means very rarely.

herm...

Lore Warden/Rogue?

Disarm, Sneak Attack to death with a sturdy mug?
Maybe trip for those days when disarm won't help you out?

Make yourself a rogue (scout) just in case.

kat are you recommending multi class or one or the other?

Grand Lodge

Focusing on arrows is nice because no matter the arrow size, you suffer the same penalties(which are none for you) and will give you versatility not available to other classes.
I even have a rough background as to the reasoning of this fighting style, if interested.

yes BBT I am very interested, it is an interesting idea.

I have never heard what the official rule on using arrows as thrown weapons is though, thrown tiny weapon is what i hear most often.

I'm interested in that background.

Throw bigger arrows.

I'm no min/max'er, so this isn't any kind of optimum build or anything, but I had a dwarven monk with Throw Anything. Didn't carry any weapons other than a pocket full of rocks. He was fun.

Abandoned in the wilderness as a child, the PC was discover by a pack of Worgs. Finding the child too small to eat, they kept him and raised him, until he was big enough to eat. As time passed, the Worgs eventually forgot the reasoning behind raising him, and simply accepted him as one of the pack. Without any training in the use of tools, the PC often fell behind in hunts, only useful in climbing up trees to see afar. One day the PC came upon an abandon quiver of arrows. The odd sticks were as sharper than any claw or tooth, and as the PC always lacked such weapons, decided these "twig teeth" were his key to proving his usefulness within the pack. Time passed, and as skill with fighting, and crafting of these "twig teeth" sharpened, his position within the pack was raised. This created envy within the pack, and soon rivals recalled his original purpose. The pack turned on him, and the PC was driven from home, as the PC was not pleased with the idea of being a meal. It was not long until he was discovered by a human(or other race) hunting party, and the PC was shocked to find others shaped as he. Eventually, he learned the way of man, but never forgot his past, and the weapon that helped him survive.

Magus (or Sohei if you can get Improvised added as a weapon group), so you can add magic to all those improvised weapons.
Other than that, +1 to Breaker Barbarian, possibly even taking the Hurling chain for further improvised fun.

Bonus: not owning an expensive weapon means more fundage for everything else. Once you get Improved Weapon Mastery the stuff you pick up isn't likely to be worse than a longsword.

Is this build for a AP?

Have you looked at the Empty Handed Monk archetype?

Grand Lodge

Breaker Barbarian will have higher DPR and better AC.

it isn't for anything, just thinking it through, how it would be fun

Grand Lodge

You know, if no grabs the arrow-slinging Breaker Barbarian idea, I just might run one myself.
I could even use the above backstory as a rough draft to the character if no one uses it.
I think the idea rocks.

go for it BBT!

If you were to make a char that fights with things that specifically are NOT weapons what would you do. Other than a bard that wails on people with his lute.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If you are not focusing on a certain type of improvised weapon, then any build gets a lot harder.

So I'm liking the idea alot and am wondering about using it to build a rock thrower. Anything from fist sized rocks to giant boulders to be thrown. Wondering what a good way to do it would be. wondering if shrink item plus a stone sorcerer would work. Or if I could just use rocks that are laying around me as a form of rough and ready ammo depending on the setting. I envision a troll from the computer game called ADOM where this troll would chuck blessed and cursed rocks at everyone around him. He was also blind. made things really funny, man I miss that toon. Good memories. So thats my idea that I'm trying to recreate. any pointers?

Grand Lodge

Sling bullets would work the same way. Get different sized sling bullets and go the same above path.

Ok... I'm seriously biased here but.... if you have the Advanced Race Guide, take a look at the Goblin "Feral Gnasher". He gets Throw Anything and Improvised Weapon Mastery as bonus feats, the ability to grab throwable items as a free action, and at higher levels a scaling damage bonus to improvised weapons. Plus he gets a wicked bite attack.

It is a goblin archetype, but easily adaptable to other races I think.

Gunslinger with a musket.

No! keep it goblin! On a serious note, I need to get the Advanced Race Guide. Is there a version of it on the d20pfsrd? that is my main go to for this game, and if its on there that would be epic.

Grand Lodge

Who has the Advanced Race Guide yet?

I'm saying a multiclass. Lore Warden gives the bonuses to maneuvers that you want and need (for disarm) and rogue gives the Sneak Attack to get the most out of catch off guard.

This is all in theory, I've never actually tried it, however.
