Cleric archetype question, possible to stack undead lord and crusader?

Rules Questions

hey yall, quick question. can the two title archetypes be stacked together? the one thing i can see going either way is the crusader can only take one domain which modifies it, and the undead lord archetype can only take the death domain with undead lord subdomain.

now its true they both modify it but they also reach the same goal? im not sure how this would go. thanks in advance!

Yes, you can take both archetypes, they will stack.

the answer is no. you cannot take 2 archetypes that modify the same ability.

"A character can take more than one archetype and garner additional alternate class features, but none of the alternate class features can replace or alter the same class feature from the core class as another alternate class feature. For example, a paladin could not be both a hospitaler and an undead scourge since they both modify the smite evil class feature and both replace the aura of justice class feature. A paladin could, however, be both an undead scourge and a warrior of the holy light, since none of their new class features replace the same core class feature."

ah i knew they couldnt change out the same ability but i suppose alter is the key word i missed. i figured since they werent mutually exclusive eg: you can make the same thing as crusader by choosing the death and undead subdomain as your only domain. might mean they were stackable.

bummer i was really looking forward to trying that combo out. thanks!

Without actually looking into it, I think it'd be perfectly acceptable in a home game, but that doesn't make it rules-legal. Talk to your GM. I'd allow it, if it were my game.

You need to look at the language for each.

Undead Lord, UM pg 32: wrote:

Death Magic

An undead lord must select the Death domain (and the Undead subdomain). She does not gain a second domain.

In all other respects, this works like and replaces the standard cleric’s domain ability.

Crusader, UC pg 40: wrote:

Diminished Spellcasting

A crusader chooses only one domain and gains one fewer spell of each level than normal. If this reduces the number to 0, she may cast spells of that level only if they are domain spells or if her Wisdom allows bonus spells of that level.

I would say yes they stack b/c Diminished Spellcasting does not say that it replaces the domain class feature explicitly so they should stack.

Doesn't stack.

They do not stack, as they both cost you one domain. A lenient dm might let you get away with it, though probably not since the loss of a domain is a pretty big deal.
