Thoughts on baba yaga?

Advice

One of my players is making a witch with the baba yaga Patron (I'm ok with it even if it's rare)

I like what he's coming up with for the character and looking at the spirit object hex cantrip it has real potential for out of the box thinking.

Someone successfully disarm an enemy? Have the weapon grow legs and *run away*

Sending in walking bottles of healing.

Etc.

I think Baba Yaga is one of the weakest patrons honestly. Spirit Object is cool, and a 1-action mage hand is certainly useful, but it’s not so combat useful that I’d pay 1 slot per level for it. There’s some tricks you can do with it (giving yourself cover at higher bulk).

Now, if there was the ability to pick up more hex cantrips with a class feat, I’d certainly take it.

Weak? I once saw him kill three men in a bar with a pencil...

That was a magic trick, she just made those pencils disappear

Glacial Heart the strongest Witch Focus spell is related to her, have a good chance that some GMs will only let you pick that focus if you are related to Baba Yaga in some way.

That has no bearing on me or my post however

She's pretty terrifying and she had a son who was real jerk. He wouldn't die when you killed him. He has a catchy song about his love affair with the Russian Queen.

She has a pretty cool hut, and basically all the witches I know aspire to be her.

Spirit Object is basically Telekinetic Projectile with a lower damage die but the utility of being super mage hand too (the bulk scales up really well, so you can quickly be animating something like a bulky crate to move, smack an enemy, and then sit down in their way).

Also, it should be noted... Spirit Object can (arguably) flank. It's explicitly an animated object making a melee attack and it doesn't say it doesn't flank... which gives it a major edge over every other ranged spell in the game.

Since it's an animated object making a melee attack, it's intended to be able to flank, indeed a major advantage, and since you get to move it around, it's usually pretty easy to do so. Plus the visual is hilarious!

I want to make a Baba Yaga witch who is a Milliner who travels with a folding screen that will helpfully grow legs and stand between you and the person trying to hurt you to break line of sight.
