This year at Gencon, I am seriously considering a Pathfinder Society Members meeting. We have grown to the point where I think it is important to stay in as much face to face contact with as many members as possible and feel this may be a good way to handle it.
If things pan out, and it receives a positive response here, I would consider holding it on Wed. from 5-7 pm.
So, if we decided to host this, what would you like to see at this meeting?

Beer
A Pie in the Face Match where everyone gets to throw one at Kyle..;)Are we talking Formal like a Opem Discussion Seminar?
Or a Get together like the old GM parties Paizo used to have before Gen Con?

One free Paizo/WizKids mini passed out per PFS game played in the past, two if you died in it. (So that's about three cases for Doug Doug :-) Three minis for every PC you killed.
Seriously:
- A good discussion with everyone willing to listen and bat around ideas. I know not everyone is on these boards.
- Meet all the staff/writers
- I wouldn't mind the ability to have first dibs on purchasing a GenCon only Paizo/WizKids promo miniature either.

1) This would conflict with pre-con gaming at Scotty's which has grown significantly.
2) I love pie.

I would definitely like this as it is my first GenCon and I have been a part of PFS for one year come this weekend.
- Ways to further support GMs
- Suggestions to expand upon the experience of a PFS game and other rulings
- Evaluating Factions and their impact upon the scenarios
- Meet & Greet
Also, is there any possibility of getting a pdf that contains a listing of all the Venture Captains of Golarion and their general description/ demeanors?

They are mean, Grumpy and have get a sick sense of satisfaction when they kill off PCs...Oh wait... you mean the ones in game not real life... pretty much the same... ;)

You know I only sleep 3-5 hours a night.

I think it would be beneficial for those that judge to get tips and tricks of the trade on how writers saw their scenarios run.
This is actually better for a seminar than a members meeting. Got it noted for my gencon seminar meeting next week.

Sounds good ... The only problem I see is judges that want to judge the whole convention having to make that decision, although I suppose that judges that really really want the tips and tricks would be able to give up one slot to go to the seminar

I'd prefer to get judging tips and insight from the authors before the con starts. A half-hour of Q&A of a writers panel [with spoilers] at a Wednesday evening meeting would be helpful. Also, between judging GenCon, playing a few PFS scenarios at GenCon and spending a little time in the dealer hall, I really don't want to give up a slot for a seminar. If I had to, I'd want the seminar during the morning before the dealer hall opens or during the afternoon slot. That way I'm only giving up one gaming slot for the seminar/dealer hall. (sorry .. off topic)

You could have "Meet your Venture-Captain". This would be useful for folks who live within a given Venture-Captain's "jurisdiction", but live too far-away to have ever met him/her.
Also perhaps a few generous (and crafty) folks could make standards/flags/shields for each of the factions, and we could plan something fun to do faction-wise.

I was thinking about the same thing. How about offering a Chronicle sheet for attending the meeting? You have to get it signed by 10 VCs/VLs and 10 regular members before leaving the meeting for it to be valid. I'm not sure how many officers will attend but maybe the event is prior to the exclusive VC dinner at GenCon. The Chronicle gives your PC a Diplomacy bonus when interacting with a VC or NPC member of the Society.
There was a cool arms & armor company that makes decorative shields with crests. I have their website bookmarked somewhere. About 10 years ago WOTC had a shield created for each Living Greyhawk region. At the last GenCon of the campaign there was a competition to earn a shield. Some regions made threats to win other regions' shields. It made the whole thing much more exciting and meaningful. It would be cool to create an event featuring a competition between the Factions since that got phased out of the Society at the end of Season 0.

Mike,
Why not make a meeting similiar to the Author's chat thats held on Tuesday's.
Many people csnt make it out to the main cons(sadly myself included) but if you held an online event with a moderator and the pfs luminaries (You, Mark, 5-star VC's) in it I'm sure you'd get a bigger bang for your buck.
The benefits would be that you get a wider audience and more participants deep in the trenches of PFS gaming.
Just dont do it when I have Command & Staff! LOL!

I remember helping earn the tickets to win the shield on the left.

I would like to support this !!
What options are there for an online meeting. There are lots of teleconference options - but off course the once I'm used to in the past got sponsored by a huge company.
But having a group on two sides of the atlantic I was used to at least one teleconference per week with shared slides, etc.
Townhalls happened once a quarter with approx. 100 people signing in. It is less personal - but it allows to meet up across the globe.

In drumming up support of the online meeting you could have the meeting before GENCON and PAIZOCON.
You would then get a general feel of the changes the player base is looking for, ideas and whatnot and get them ready to be published in the 4.xx version of the PFS Rulebook. Its a win win for everyone.
PFS Staff gets the input it was looking for. Players get their suggestions on the table. We all give internet hugs, sing kumbaya and be merry!
and best of all we come out feeling vested in the thing we call PFS!!!!!

Not sure how I missed this before, but this is a really awesome idea.

Uh oh, I'm agreeing with Kyle here. Or maybe I'm agreeing with Doug Doug. Yep, definitely Doug Doug.
I think it would be great for the members to put faces to names. It's already been mentioned not everyone is on the boards and some names are merely legends. I know there's some Paizo folks who aren't WotC "refugees" that I only know by name - I'm sure I'm not Robinson Crusoe on that.
Beer is also good :)
If you're more or less planning on copying the old RPGA format, it goes like this. First hour is the judges meeting, where campaign/con staff get to explain things to GMs. Stuff like not being late, getting sleep (except Mike), remembering to use the shower in the hotel room, and answering questions about weird stuff in mods. Second hour is the members meeting, where the head honchos get to tell everyone how much the campaign has grown in the past year, what's planned (that's not secret) for the next year, introduce high profile company/campaign staff, and occasionally recognise an achievement (eg. New VC's 5 star GM's). Plus the obligatory embarrassment of anyone who might be having a birthday over the con weekend.

I'd support the pre-meeting. I think it gives the access needed for folks to meet Paizo staff, VCs, and those legendary names on the boards. Some more frightening than others :)
Also, I'd think this would give the VCs a chance to hand out where PFS events are being held regularly for those not on the boards or those unaware of PFS Society attending Gencon for the first time.
Lastly, I love free Beer.

Is there any way to have the meeting at Scotty's? That way, people could take a break between games for the meeting.
The only way I see that working is if you rent out all of Scotty's or something. And I doubt you'd ever get that to work considering the type of business / traffic you see going through that place. I remember going there before Gen Con started and it was an absolute madhouse not even including the PFS gaming going on.

What is this 'Scottys' you people speak of? Is this someplace I should make sure to visit while in town for Gencon?

Scotty's is a bar near the convention center that graciously lets us use some of their space for gaming. Mark Garringer coordinated this last year and while it was crazy, it was a good time. Not sure who or if anyone is going to pick up the mantle and organize it this year. While one of the slots will likely conflict with the membership meeting, the other two won't.

Beer is also good :)
There are currently no plans to provide alcohol at the member's meeting. The plan is that it will be an opportunity for us to make announcements and provide public recognition to valuable members of the community in a forum where people aren't distracted by a game going on, and where anyone who wants to attend can do so, without scheduling conflicts or the need to have a ticket.

The mantle has been picked up by Tracy Windeknecht, Indianapolis Venture-Captain and her minion, um I mean Venture-Lieutenant, Chris Bonnet.
I encourage everyone to stop by if you'll be in town on Wednesday. Games usually start around 10-11am and go through midnight (or later). The schedule in the past has been staggered so multiple arrival times are accommodated. Even if you arrive late or don't have for a game, just say hi and meet a lot of the yahoo's from the Paizo forums. The food is good, the gaming awesome, and you get to drink while your playing. What could be better?
I believe Tracy is currently working on the format of the event to maximize the playtime given the addition of the PFS community meeting.

Now the truth from my eyes..;)
The food is good,
Not really..
the gaming awesome
Too Crowded and loud, worse then the Convention!
and you get to drink while your playing.
Yes this is true, and Nice... Just the 2 above ruined it for me...
What could be better?
Good food, Good Gaming atmosphere, with the beer would be better.
Tried this last year, though the Company and Beer was good, the rest made it uncomfortable for myself.
This is just one mans opinion...
I wish they could find a better place for the gaming, it is nice for Drinking and company, Not for gaming, way, way, way, way, way, way, way *enough ways yet?* to crowded.

Now to exact some revenge for my friend Bob. Corrections in bold.
Too crowded and loud, worse than the convention!
pffft, correcting my English does not phase me... ;)
