Thank you Saint Caleth, I just re-read both the Core and Guide on this. It is clear that there is "lee-way" for a GM on alignment issues but that both of our opinions are RAW & RAI. If this were a petty alignment infraction there wouldn't be such a large response to it on these boards.Looking at this problem from a defensible position for Paizo, Mike and the VCs, which position is easier or better to defend in a public media debate, eliminate the evil imp or the L/G pally? It makes no difference what year it is. Saint Caleth wrote: The hypothetical wizard is LN. A character who continuously calls an evil demon to Golarion to do his/her bidding, is committing an evil act, but not an act that would change their alignment. According to the Guide "Characters who become wantonly evil, whose actions are deliberate and without motive or provocation, are retired from the campaign." So 2 of the three aspects have to be present. Bringing an evil imp is definitely a deliberate act.Bringing an evil imp does have a motive, it is a character ability. Bringing an evil imp does provoke other characters. If this did come up, if another player was provoked and I raised the issue, if the finding came back saying I was wrong, I really have no problem with Paizo making that call. I will accept and enforce their ruling.
Sorry for my strong opinion on this, but when I GM if this situation happens ...
PFS says he can play with an Imp (evil companion) but I haven't found anywhere where it says he is immune from evil alignment changes. Bringing an evil imp into play with any PFS group is bring an evil imp! You bring evil, you be evil. I hope PFS changes this so there won't be evil groups playing in Pathfinder. I can picture the newspapers writing about a group of six children playing six wizards with their evil companions in Paizo's Pathfinder games. What would the legal ramifcations be? The imp bringer is the "Pre-Meditated Griefer" here.
I am very much in favor of this! Thank Michael for asking us. Here in Charleston almost everyone is new to PFS. Our gaming groups are dedicated and we are growing. This change legally brings the possiblity of players to correct mistakes, try new possibilites and feel much less stress about their first few games.
Being both a GM and a player I really dislike that I have to apply a GM chronicle to a character whenever I GM. That just means I can't play that character for 1/3 or 1/6 of that level. So far I've got a "dump character" he a 4th lvl Fighter from GMing and only played him once. I understand Paizo has to have some way to track our GMing though. How about a GM cert that gives some token to the GM but the main purpose is for Paizo's tracking. The token may be a small boon like maybe 5% off the cost of a 1st level wand.
GM certs could all be your -0 just for record keeping.
Option #2.
Then I go back and say to myself, "Nuts, I've got a second level character of the XXXXXX faction (since I have to assign faction for the chronicle). Now what kind of character should I build? Sorry Dragnmoon, you say most GMs are organized, but I don't really fall in that group. The thing I dislike the most about assigning GM chronicles is have a higher level character that I haven't played.
Great suggestions! And welcome Drigs! Come November I'm going to run some games at "Gathering in the Park" in Summerville. DCII, I just went to your s-c-a-r-a-b web site and very nice job. Could you put your PFS games on the PFS web site also? It would make it easier to get the word out to more people. Just an idea.
We had a really good game! 6 PCs a lot of splashing around :-} I'v made another event (7237) for us on Aug. 27 at the Green Dragon in North Charleston. I'll be running 2-21 The Dalsine Affair for PCs level 1-7. Green Dragon is a great game store, check out their website and read their rules at http://greendragoncharleston.com/index.htm. |
