Pirates of Uncharted Waters (Inactive)

Game Master Connor McGinnis

Sovereign Court

Hi Everyone: Looking for 3-4 players for a pirate campaign with a lot of role playing, a lot of skill check and saves, and a fair amount of high seas adventure/naval warfare.

I'll be taking the first 3-4 characters who have their full stats posted here. After the 3-4th person, stop posting. You'll not be accepted and i'm not running a 2nd group.

Classes allowed: Anything non-magical. If it ultimately gains magic at higher levels ignore the magic it would typically gain
Races: Human, Half-Orc, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Gnome, Elf, Gillman, Goblin, Kobold
Starting gp: 150
Starting lv: 2
2 traits
All characters will have weapon proficiency firearms for free
All characters will have weapon focus with a weapon of your choice for free
2 posts per day maximum. If you exceed that you're going to have a very crabby gm, because i'll have to read all that.

DO NOT: Give your character unbelievable backstory or abilities not for your race or class
Give any NPCs backstories OR personalities - my job
Make anyone other than yourself talk - my job
Do anything that would provoke a sincere alignment shift

Above all have fun, and I hope you'll enjoy the campaign.

Point Buy?
Roll for stats?

Sovereign Court

20 pt buy system.

Dotting, with a question.

Are you looking for roguish swashbuckling adventurers, or actual, scum-of-the-sea evil piratical types?

I know you gave a specific list of races in mind but would you consider a seafaring minotaur?

I stated up this guy for a Skull and Shackles game. If you willing to entertain the possibility I can change his background up to be a bit more general.

What books? Any alignment restrictions? What's the setting like? Would a qinggong monk's SLAs fall under your "no magic" policy?

Quote:
DO NOT: Give your character unbelievable backstory or abilities not for your race or class

What's your idea of a believable backstory?

Does this mean you've banned all the feats and traits that let you count as another race, or merely that racial options are only available to those who qualify?
How exactly does one "Give your character abilities not for your class" (besides several magic-related feats which wouldn't be allowed anyway)?

Quote:
DO NOT: Give any NPCs backstories OR personalities - my job

Does this include any NPCs in a PCs backstory, or is it more of an in-game thing?

Here's my submission, a human rogue. He'd fit in well with just about any crew as a first mate type or quartermaster. Do let me know if anything needs tweaking, but I took two presumed liberties for lack of further clarification:
* 1/2+1 hit points at level up
* average starting gold for 1st level

Hoping to climb aboard!

I am interested to know how common guns are in this setting, mainly early guns everywhere or also Advanced guns all over the place?

Regardless I'll write up a character, though his stats may vary depending on how common guns are.

Here's my submission: A human ranger (freebooter) =D Hope there is nothing wrong there. Will probably flesh out background a bit more later.

Edit: I'll make an alias if he gets chosen

Background:

Grint was born in a larger coastal town, known for its fishing and the being a rather safe haven for pirates. His parents ran the largest tavern in town, which made him come into contact with some scumbags of pirates very early. His father, a retired sailor and former pirate himself, taught him some specific points on how rough life on the sea could be, warning him that it may not be all he hopes it to be. Grint however still saw it as a dream of his to sail the world, working on skills he might need; climbing trees for the mast, training being fleet-of-foot when there’s a storm, spotting birds for keener eyes. When Grint reached 19 years of age, he spoke to his father about wanting to leave and explore, his father reluctantly agreed, giving him some of his old gear on the condition, that he would choose a more reliable crew for his first voyage on the sea. Grint agreed to this and now eagerly awaits his new comrades.

Personality:

Grint is a bit of a serious young man, aiming to see much of the world, believing that sea voyages are the fastest way to do so. He enjoys a drink with some of the men coming into his parents tavern, hearing them out for stories. But to him drinking comes second to performing his duties, whether they are on deck or on land. His willingness to discover new lands and his trained eyes, makes him a good person for a crow’s nest, as well as aiming a bow or pistol when the need arises.

Appearance:

Broad shouldered through all the climbing and swimming in his youth, he looks very sturdy with his 5 ft 8. (More to come if he’s chosen, as well as an alias)

I realized that my original post was an illegal build. I didn't have all of the pre-reqs for Imp. Bull Rush.

Kaan
Male Human (Tien) Monk (Maneuvermaster) 1/Fighter (Lorewarden) 1
LN Humanoid (human)
Init +2; Senses Perception +7

Defense:

AC 16, touch 16, flat-footed 16 (+2 Dex, +4 Wis)
hp 15 (2d8+2)
Fort +5, Ref +4, Will +4

Offense:

Speed 30 ft.
Melee: Unarmed Strike +4 (1d6+4 +1d6 bleed)

Statistics:

Str 17, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 13, Wis 14, Cha 8
Base Atk +1; CMB +4(+6 for Trip and Bull Rush); CMD 20
Languages Common

Feats:
Belier’s Bite, Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, Improved Unarmed Strike, Power Attack, Stunning Fist

Traits:
Expert Boarder
Mizu Ki Hikari Rebel

Skills:
Acrobatics +6
Climb +8
Escape Artist +6
Perception +7
Profession Sailor +7
Sense Motive +6
Stealth +6
Swim +8

Other Gear:
None

Special Abilities:
Flurry of Maneuvers When making a full attack action , may add a maneuver onto the attack.

Ki Throw On a successful unarmed trip attack against a Medium or smaller target, you may throw the target prone in any square you threaten, rather than its own square.

Backstory:
I fought for so long, and we failed for so long. I could stand it no longer. I took to the sea. I fled from our battle because I could not stand to see the results of it any longer.

I’ve sailed far. As far as the seas allow. Freedom was not possible for all of my people, but I’ve made it available for myself

I’ve done things that I regret, but there is always a code. There is always something to help one maintain sanity. I stick to the code.

Appearance:
Kaan has several scars on his face. The most noticeable is a long scar starting above his hairline and ending just above his mouth. The wound that caused it obviously almost took his eye. The scar is dark. Far darker than would otherwise be expected of a scar. He ground ink or dye into the wound to ensure that he remember whatever caused it.

Noticed I made some mistakes on the build, init should be +2 and languages are only Common

Dark Archive

So we've got 1-2 rangers, a rogue and a monk. The lineup changes a bit if Connor decides to allow a minotaur Bard / Ranger.

@GM: Is this game happening on Golarion or someplace else? I tried to leave my background vague, or at least without place names.

@Bjorkus: If you're going to post a PC with a custom race, you should probably include in either your post or your profile the ARG stats for the race.

My apologies. I thought I'd linked the source race.

I was using the racial stats from here.

I find myself rather liking the idea of being a magic-less bard...

Sovereign Court

You can use the minotaur, but be careful how you play him.
Guns are very common, and you will all start out with a free musket or pistol. Sorry I forgot to mention that part.
This happens in my own made up world, but you can still use any place's names you want to show where your character originated from.
All characters posted here are legal, and if we have four characters here, no one else post one. I'm done taking characters. The campaign will probably start either tonight, tomorrow night, or Sunday night.

Thanks for the consideration!

I had a few questions before we begin.

*What do you mean by “Be careful how you play them”?

*By no magic do you mean literally none? What about things like Inspire Courage, ki points, etc. They are technically magic.

*You mention two posts per day maximum but what about minimum?

So we have 5 players applying now, Connor you'll have to cut one then even if that means me.

If I make it through I'll take that musket. If there are some advanced fire-arms available later I might take my focus on those. I'd love the chance to be able to use fire-arms with rapid shot and many shot.

Sovereign Court

I mean that if you play a minotaur specifically by their usual personality, i'll be hard for the rest of the party to like you. I'd be "gore this guy first and ask questions later". You'd be pretty dumb acting too if your int is low. Just a word of warning is all.

Simple things like detect magic, read magic, summoning things to bring forth a druid's animal companion, inspire courage, and ki points are allowed. If there are any other specific questions on which spells are allowed, please ask using that spell's name in particular

Minimum posts per day is one, with the exception of friday nights through sunday nights. It's be hard for people to post on those days normally, so none are required then.

When I said three-four players I meant 3-4 + any i'd personally invited by way of personal messaging (That means you're safe, Rocan.)

Campaign will start Sunday night for sure, so plan accordingly.

I'm going to bow out after all. There's already lots of strength-based melee folks and two rangers. Bjorkus would just be redundant.

Thanks anyway and best of luck guys!

Hmm, should probably also go for the musket so I have something with a relatively appreciable range.

Grand Lodge

I am interested. However I'm working today and will not be able to post my stats until this evening.

Dark Archive

I should have an alias up by monday. If gameplay happens before then, I'll expedite.

@GM: Any thoughts on allowing Skull & Shackles traits? I was eying Besmara's Blessing, as I'd figured this guy for a pilot.

Grand Lodge

Scratch that. I see there are more than enough players. Have fun.

Sovereign Court

I'll traits from both skulls and shackles and shattered star.

Is there any intent of this getting started Connor?

Sovereign Court

It's started up already. Don't know how that wasn't made clear enough.

Real quick do you think you need a healer?

I'm new and thought this type of playing may be to slow for me, but if the game is post once a day I'm up for that.

Sovereign Court

Sorry, GamerJB. We're all filled up. Maybe next time though. Thanks for the offer.
