Your Ideal PC Party: Class & Level

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A couple weeks ago some gaming buddies and I were talking about what the funnest level was to play -- and on a tangent, what Classes would comprise the funnest PC party.

So, if you're DMing the perfect party in the perfect game, what level would the PCs be -- and which Classes?
(Or, if you're not DM and control all the PCs, what level would you want your PCs and what Classes?)

For me, 16th level is PERFECT.
(Even low casters get their big spells. You get that 4th Ability point. You can dip into other Classes & still get what you want. You can really get the PrC stuff you want.... Most importantly, you can use almost the entire Monster Manual. CR 20s are okay. Low level monsters can have lots of Class levels & templates. Medium level monsters can have a few Class levels. Level 16 is PERFECT.

So, as DM, my perfect group would be 7 Gestalt PCs of 16th Level:

Cleric-16
Paladin-10 / Fighter-4 / Inquisitor-2

Fighter-16
Barbarian-14 / Ranger-1 / Paladin-1

Inquisitor-16
Monk-12 / Rogue-2 / Shadow Dancer-2

Scout (3.5 CAd)-16
Ranger-13 / Fighter-3

Summoner-16
Warlock (3.5 CAr)-16

Magus-16
Fighter-4 / Rogue-8 / Dragon Disciple-4

Sorcerer-16
Witch-16

My ideal party to GM is 4 1st level commoners.

I think aroudn third level with 4 pcs would be good for me with a nature themed game

Ranger 3

sorceror 3

inquisitor 3

druid 3

Don't have much expirence with higher levels Although running from this party would be stupid they could track you down.

Liberty's Edge

Eighth Level:

Cleric, Paladin, Alchemist (vivisectionist), Witch

Scarab Sages

5 PCs at lvl 8

Cleric/Oracle

Wizard/Sorcerer/Witch/Summoner

Fighter/Ranger/Paladin

Rogue/Bard/Inquisitor

and the 5th could be any class

AM LIKING MY REAL PARTY

AM HAVING ME, WIZARD/CLERIC

AM HAVING RANGER WITH THE SWORD AND BOARD

AM HAVING PALADIN ARCHER

AM HAVING MAGUS WITH THE MAGIC CROSSBOW

AM HAVING INQUISITOR WITH THE MACE AND BOARD AND THE ARCHERY

AM HAVING BURNING DITZ AM SORCERER WHO REMINDS EVERYONE HOW GREAT WIZARD IS BY SUCKING EVEN FOR A SORCERER.

LOTS OF MEAT BETWEEN ME AND BAD GUYS, INCOMPETENT SORCERER DRAWING FIRE, LOTS OF SHOOTY ON MY SIDE, RANGER TO SOAK UP BUFFS.

IS NICE.

5 PC's at level 10:

1) Half-Orc melee ranger with a boar, a few levels in barbarian and the boon companion. Very orcy.

2) Gnome witch (oriented towards necromancy)

3) Human TWF rogue

4) Dwarven War Cleric

5) Elven magus/arcane archer

Druid
Oracle of Life
Summoner
Bard.

Run and hide, we've got a fully buffed army of summoned minions coming at you, and even if you do get close enough to hurt one of us it won't last long.

That sounds like a super fun group of PCs for the Player.

It sounds like HELL for the DM. (I can design encounters for PCs. Designing them for eidolons, animals and summoned monsters would make me stop DMing, I think.)

But it sounds awesome as a Player.

Let's see...

Five 5th Level PCs:
Human (or Half-Orc?) Fighter, wielding an Earthbreaker;

Human Wizard (Universalist), Quarterstaff wielding;

Half-Elf Oracle of Flame, Heavy Mace & Shield wielding;

Elf Scout (from 3.5's "Complete Adventurer") Longbow user;

Half-Elf Factotum (from 3.5's "Dugeonscape") with Longsword---OR---Elf Spellthief (from 3.5's "Complete Adventurer") with Rapier.

Just my personal dream team.

Level between 5 and 10 are, I think, the best level.

Your character is gaining his main abilities, and it begins to have a very nice dynamic, without being to overwhelming with high-level spells and abilities.

For Classes, I'd say...

Paladin, Battle cleric, Magus or Ranger
Another Paladin Cleric Magus or Ranger
Oracle Life or Cleric Healing
Wizard
Sorcerer

I really love having hybrid tank/caster in frontline fighter. It bring some awesome combinaison (Paladin/Battle cleric makes very very though frontline duo). The Wizard + Sorcerer controls it all and blasting when they have time to, while the Oracle or Cleric just run and keep everyone alive when he doesn't have the time to buff.

If you are 4, remove one spellcaster or one frontliner, it still works, not as good but you can manage everything on both side.

Bard Arcane Duelist

Inquisitor Archer

Oracle
