Hey Guy and Gals,
I'm wondering what the masses thought of a cleric/summoner multiclass? Our group will have 4 players, we all have to have 2 classes and here is what I've been told so far..
We will have the following classes that I know of:
Bard/Rogue
Ninja/Monk
Cleric/Summoner (me)
????
Not sure about the last class as the player might not join us right away.
Seeing as we need healing and melee, I was thinking of the Cleric/Summoner build but not sure how feasible it would be. these are the things I have to work with..
Starting level is 4 and DM rolled the stats and they are:
11
11
11
13
14
18
6,000gp character wealth.. Looking for advice on gear/wands to purchase as well.
The race I will use is Aasimar (+2 wis, +2 cha)
Summoner lvl 3
Cleric lvl 1
We are allowed 1 racial trait (not sure what to take)
Cleric is a Separatist archetype
Domains: Deity (Kelemvor, we are allowed deities from previous books)
Travel (Kelemvor)
Air (Forbidden domain)
Feats:
1. Selective Channeling
2. ????
Summoner will have the Serpentine Eidolon (I was thinking grappling/constricting enemies)
Eidolon gets 2 feats:
1. Final Embrace (Gain grab and constrict abilities, better than spending the evolution points)
2. ???? (I was thinking toughness to boost HP, but perhaps power attack or other melee booster?)
5 evolution points to spend, I was thinking of taking improved bite, reach: bite (has a natural 10' reach I think so would increase to 15'), natural armor +2, Strength +2.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.. I'm hoping to make a character who can aid in the healing when needed as well as fighting as we don't have a real heavy tank class in the group.
Thanks!

If you are a cleric, and you want to contribute to melee, it's in my opinion better to contribute as a fighting cleric than via a summoned creature. Since you HAVE to multiclass, the eidolon is likely not going to have an easy time of surviving as you level as it's going to be below your character level. Even if you go mostly summoner and a little cleric, it's going to hurt your eidolon at higher levels (and your healing won't be adequate to help fill your healing role).
My personal opinion would be, since you have to multiclass and you want healing and melee, to take Cleric along with Fighter or another martial class for extra BAB and weapon and armor proficiencies and be the tank yourself (throwing that 14 from Charisma into Strength instead)--focusing on the cleric's very good low level buffing spells to make you able to easily wade into melee. You might also pick a different archetype as well, one that focuses on a martial cleric type. If you still really want a pet you could take the animal domain which gives you an animal companion.
THAT SAID: if you think you will have fun being a cleric-summoner, by all means go for it. I just think not being able to fully level your eidolon will make the plan work less effectively. Good luck.
ETA: And if you really want to be a summoner primarily, I might consider letting mystery guy#4 be the healer and focus on another class that can buff your eidolon (cleric would work, but bard would be better, maybe?).

I guess thats the debate I'm looking at is whether or not I'll have to actually be personally involved in melee or if the 4th guy is making a melee character and then the eidolon will be for support fighting while my character will buff/heal and cast offensively.
I guess I have to talk with the 4th guy! lol

Wild Idea: I suggest: Cleric 1, Rogue 1, Synthesist 2 Bipedal
Evolutions: Imp Nat Armor, Reach(claws), Skilled Stealth, Skilled Perception
Feats: 1st) Power Attack, Combat Reflexes or Skill Focus are all equally good.
3rd) Precise Strike if the other sneaky types will also take it.
You are AC 21 with mage armor, 26 HP, 12 Temp HP,
PA Claw/Claw +4, d4+5 with up to 2d6 additional precision damage to each
Stealth of +16, Perception of +18, Move of 40', Evasion, good saves
Channeling of 1d6 healing 8 times/day, 8 cantrips/orisons, and two good buffing casting classes.
You are not a powerhouse damage dealer, but you can do many things really well. The large amount of class skills from the rogue, combined with the Skilled Evolution make a very versatile character. The sneak attack dice is just a bonus.
If you take a minute to change forms and back, you become the ultimate smuggler by hiding stuff inside your clothing before fusing. The official fluff of the class is that the eidolon is translucent. Well, human skin is translucent, to a degree. So, adjusting your appearance fluff is not difficult to fit within RAW. Therefore, it is not too difficult to look like a normal-ish humanoid. Slap on a Hat of Disguise for 1,500 gp, and you are very passable.
And last but not least, convince the fourth guy not to go the full plate route. Three sneaky dudes followed by a clanking tin can just nullifies the group.
Magic items that will be desirable for purchase later:
* Shocking Amulet of Mighty fists +0 for 5k gp,
* Phylactery of Positive Channeling at 11k gp.

Also if you are going to be doing summoning, why not go master summoner/cleric? Something like Master Summoner 3 - Cleric 1. You get Augment Summoning free at lvl 2. Then you can get Superior Summoning at level 3 and you get a free extra monster every time you summon, which is a free twin spell.
Having the Cleric level will allow you to get Sacred Summons which makes monsters you summon with the same alignment be a standard action to summon. You can have masses of summoned monsters out - you can even get the Su. version of Summon Monster that upgrades all the way to Summon Monster IX, that's pretty awesome. lThis is like the Pathfinder version of Malconvoker from 3.5e. Not sure of the feat/class order you might want to go as I just started looking at Pathfinder the last couple days, but poke around, makes me want to

Another question of importance is whether the DM is requiring anything beyond simply having two classes, such as keeping class levels as close to even as possible. Since your two class choices have no synergy with each other, your best option (if it is allowed) would be to focus on one class and take a one level dip in the other class in a way that will be of benefit at higher levels. Basically, one of your classes eventually becomes a hobby interest of little real use in combat.
While you can boost arcane and divine spellcasting at the same time via the Mystic Theurge prestige class, that prestige class does not really help with a cleric/summoner combination, since they both have major class abilities not tied to their caster levels.
If you focus on the cleric class, you will gradually find less and less use for your eidolon and summoned creatures. You will probably want to go with either the Master Summoner or the Synthesist archetype to get more mileage out of your limited Summoner abilities.
If you focus on the summoner class, you will be able to provide some minor healing to the rest of the party, mostly between battles. At higher levels, the main benefit of your healing powers will be to prevent unconscious allies from bleeding to death.
If your DM is requiring an even split, there is no real issue in regard to caster levels -- it would literally be impossible for you to be any sort of spellcaster with a caster level greater than about half your character level unless you are able to take levels in the Mystic Theurge prestige class. However, if you are so limited, you might want to make one of your classes fighter or paladin so that you would have decent melee combat ability -- the one thing not hurt by a required class level split.

Wow. This is painful. No physical stats to speak of, your best bet is a charisma caster. Your wisdom is nice, but for just about any charisma caster build it is a wasted stat. Your 4th level, so you'll get another +1 to a stat. Your best bet here would be con.
1st Suggestion - Oracle of Lore 1/ Master Summoner Archtype 3
1st level Oracle of Lore, take side step secret as your revelation
Offense wise your gonna suck, so see if your DM allows guns. If so I'd take Point blank shot at 1st level and Exotic Wpn Firearms @ 3rd.
Should look a little like this
11 Str +0 HP 27(Assuming PFS Average = 8+5+5+5+Con*Level)
11 Dex +0 BAB +2 Speed 20 (Limbs Oracle curse)
12 Con +1 AC 21 (10 + 6(mithril breast) + 5 (Charisma)
13 Int +1 Fort +2, Ref +6, Will+7
16 Wis +3 FEAT: Point blank Shot, Exotic Wpn Firearms
20 Cha +5 Trait: Magical lineage Oracle - +2 cl
Skills Trait: Eyes & Ears of the City add Perception
as a class skill.
Craft Alchemy + 8 (so you can craft your own bullets)
Diplomacy + 12 (With a charisma that high it would be a crime not to be
the party's face)
Perception + 11 The one skill to really take advantage of High wis.
Use Magic Device +12 (You have no full arcane casters, this is how you compensate. + buy wands and scrolls)
Standard tactic would be to summon you 2nd level summon monsters to take the front line while you and your eidolon hung back. Give your eidolon flight and exotic wpn firearms and the gunsmithing feat. With the racial skill modifier they can get it could potentially beat your craft alchemy, freeing that skill slot. Your lower base attack bonus and non existent abiltiy scores won't matter as much using touch attack weapons. Cast spells to support your monsters or help with ranged attacks. Pick up bless as one of your Oracle spells. This is as spell that stays usefull till the end.

Have you thought about a Bard/Summoner? The charisma casting complements, and you could buff your own eidolon, and you'd still get some healing in there.
If you still want the flavor of divine aid, just ask your DM if you can count the Bard as a divine caster. There are plenty of deities where bardic style abilities would be appropriate. You wouldn't even need an archetype, just change the flavor.

Suggestion 2 - And I hate suggesting it, but with a 2 class minimum and the physical stats of a guy who is debating about actually going to the gym this is the next best scenario I could come up with at the moment.
Oracle of Nature 1/ Sorceror 3 Feyblood line. Take the Nature's whispers revelation and Extra revelation to gain an animal companion. 3rd level take Nature's boon to increase your companions level. Focus on Enchantment spells. Your sleep spell may have limited use at this level, but with a DC 17 you'll likely take out those it can affect. From here either A) focus on Sorceror exclusively or B) play with the Mystic Theurge. Since both your casting classes use Charisma, you'll have a little more synergy.

I’m currently playing a Drow Rogue 1, unchained summoner 2, who is about to go for a level in Cleric Vhaerun.
Trickery and Night.
The Eidelon is a skill buff rather than combat , I’ll take one final level in Summoner and then go full Rogue as he’s supposed to be the party’s Swiss Army knife.
Next feat will be the second Drow Nobility feat so that he has deeper darkness. Eidelon is Shadow with stealth and perception +8 and share evolution.
Super sneaky caster that can scare the life out of enemies. Instant flank when someone misses and acces to shield and shield of faith for +6 AC. Blindfight, shadows , fog, turn invisible , hide and channel death to living creatures while Uncle my Eidelon uses ventriloquism to terrify my enemies ....
‘The bane of Llolth approaches. Bow down slaves and some of you will live ‘
Add in the levitation, feather fall, and dancing lights ( glowing humanoid distraction ) faerie fire ....
Drow Poison.....
If I took another evolution on Uncle I could borrow his scales for +2 natural AC.......
Daredevil boots....
My GM let me take an avian form so that my Eidelon was a tiny wyrmling servitor of Vhaerun who is a full sized dragon on the shadow plain.
Yes I’m underpowered . Yes it’s not the best for synergies but he’s a really fun character
That’s what it’s about no?

If you wanna be a healer who can also frontline, theres always the life oracle (life link)/Paladin (lay on hands) build. Take damage instead of your allies, and just self-heal as a swift action while otherwise doing typical paladin stuff. If its evil, Smite it. If not, beat it upside the head anyway.
