1. He closes on the opponent and engages CAGM, giving "all" attacks against him +4 to hit and +4 damage. At that point his first swing pops the illusion and the 5 archers hiding near by open fire.

2. Just use a caster to make him look like a joke. It always works, even with the nerfing of arcane casters in pathfinder they are still the most dangerous things on the battlefield.

3. Crane Wing, crane riposte, Snake style feats, Duelist. 1 auto counter, one rolled, and not only that but because of crane wing or parry making him miss, it kicks off snake style feats. other than that you stand there and fight defensively with no other attacks. he does not get counter attacks because AoO do not provoke other AoO and just to be sneaking about it use a weapon with nifty enchantments like weakening or bleeding crit.

4. Fighting in the dark. If you want to be even more assured of putting him in his place, used number 3, in the dark.

5. Archers, lots of them.

6. Prismatic Sphere.

7. Stealth Experts, hard to hit what you can't see. #3 could also be stealthy, and in the dark.

That is just 7 off the top of my head.

Another point to consider is the nature of the encounters you set out for your group. Is there anything that you always do or never do? Break that pattern. The unbeatable player character is unbeatable because his player built him to take on your usual encounters.

Also consider the strengths of your other player characters and deploy foes that they can deal with more effectively than this character can.

Spellcasters and other ranged attackers are obvious candidates for both purposes.

at the end of page one, I had noticed that no one had yet pointed out that undead are immune to crits.

The skeletal ones also take minimum damage from slashing weapons.
And Barbarians are always lousy against mages

What is a high-CR, magical, skeletal monster?
Hint: Starts with "L" and ends with "ich"

There are a few errors in what you have said above, so in trying to be helpful...

PF undead are not immune to crits unless they are Incorporal.

Skeleton undead tend to have DR 5/Bludgeoning, but do not otherwise take minimum damage.

Barbarians have a few options that can make them very effective against mages. (Superstitous and Spell Sunder at the very least.)

Hope that helps.

Oops

got rules confused again.
Too many versions of D&D
lol
thanks for reminding me

@Turin, I don't understand your comment about using the "Maze" spell. that could take the Barbarian out of the fight for quite a while. Most barbarians probably have a low intelligence score, meaning they would have to roll a "20" to get out of the Maze spell. I don't see how a targeted "dispel magic" would help the person inside the "maze" spell since they gone. The barbarian is physically in another plane. Are you suggesting the dispel would end the maze spell prematurely?

a lot of replies have suggested archers. Yes, archers used to be a lot of fun until the party started putting "fickle winds" on every PC.

One you used listed all the "lessons" on beating the barbarian. You were mostly correct. at level 16, his CMD is outrageous 40 something.

I do try to target his will save when I can, but if he's raging, he does have a bonus.

Unfortunately, spell DCs do not scale with PC saves.

REMEMBER, the goal here is not to kill the barbarian or the party,
just to CHALLENGE the barbarian.

Again, I want to say thank you for all the wonderful suggestions. They have helped.

I mean, not to be too obvious about s@%%, but:

Grab a monster with power attack and a lot of usually-would-miss attacks. A lot of tentacley critters have this property.

Power attack like a mofo, hit him from reach, and do a crapton of damage thanks to all the bonuses he's granting people. Bonus if you do it from reach so you don't take damage back. But you can _absolutely_ outdamage CAGM.

Let him carry on being awesome at melee and design encounters that give the others time to shine while he butchers countless foes?

Sounds like a better idea than all the cheap shots to the groin everyone else is suggesting.

Then there's always the classic:
"Rock falls; everyone dies"
