I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?

Presenting Kordel Mordaen, Elven Rogue and former Scout of Barrowood.

Background summary...
Formerly a shopkeeper with a human cheliaxan wife, he helplessly watched as she was hauled off by hellknights after being accused of secretly spreading anti-asmodean propaganda. Besides for her being jailed, their shop was seized and burnt to the ground. Now he has become a vigilante searching for his wife (if she still lives), and a way to free her. If he can help bring down the government in the process, all the better. He believes someone must stop these injustices and hopes he can one day be a catalyst for a future movement.

1) Formerly a scout of Barrowood, He fell in love with a Chelish woman and decided to stay with her here. They opened a shop and began a new life.

2) He would love to be involved in bringing down the diabolist control of Westcrown.

3) Stealth and other shady skills which may come in handy. Bluff and Disguise will also be key skills.

4) RP wise, he will be calm, confident and loyal with his companions but chillingly brutal, calculating, and efficient when dealing with Diabolists, Hellknights etc. viewing Tieflings in particular with pity as well as distrust until they prove themselves by their actions.
Mechanically, he will primarily focus on his Rogue Talents with possible dips into Ranger.

5) He will bear the attack until a chance presents itself to get even at a later date and possibly using his vigilante persona if the opportunity presents itself.

Other notes...
Westcrown Firebrand for the campaign trait fits well.
If selected, Ill stat him up and develop him further (including appearance).

Throwing Rokan into the mix.

Still eneds background and such but stats should be set.

1. Why are you in Westcrown?

Some say westcrown is a tough place for a thief to make a living, and they'd be right. But it's also a tough palce for a honest man to make a living, with House Thrune and these other damned nobles. Westcrown may be dangerous and not as lucrative as other cities for my profession, but it's home, and I'll be damned if i'll be run out of my city.

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?

Lord Rokan, hmmm....tempting, but no. Too much responsibility, restrictions, rules, not my style. There are certain people I wouldn't mind putting into power, seeing as they owe me a number of favors.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?

Charisma, daring, good looks, and the ladies love me. besides while your all playing "hero" i can stab the bastards in the back, find there secret stashes, and make sure were all well compensated, after my cut of course

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically?

The truth is, I have no real casue. Sure I mainly steal from Nobles, and crooked merchants, but it would be nice to do something big, like really big. Become infamous, a hero of the people, or at least a legend among theives. I'm a loner, others just get in my way, slow me down, and emotions are damned annoying. Still who doesnt want the company of good friends, companuions in arms and all that. The real issue is trust, and can I ever trust anyone.

Mechanically speaking, strait rogue (burglar), continuing down the 2-weapon path, favoring taletns that aid sneak attack, stealth, disable device, and bluff.

I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?

Climbing out of the 2nd story window, Rokan quickly drops to the ally below. He holds his crouch for a moment , listening for any signs of alarm. Once he's sure all is quiet he makes towards the market, hoping to meet with his fence as soon as possible. Rounding the corner he runs straight into a HellKnight, the contents of his recent "job" spilling form his cloak. Just then shouts errupt form the nobles house, and cries of thief ring through the night. Piecing the obvious together the hellknight advances on the Rokan. Thinking quickly, Rokan says "I'm so glad your here, A theif, droped into that alley, these valuables under his arms. I was able to take these from him, being skilled with the blade and all, I think he's still lying dazed in the alley, if you hurry he should still be there. Worry not, for I am on my way to return these to their rightful owners."

Ok, I had some extra time tonight to do up a sheet in case im lucky enough to get a spot. Just click the avatar :)

Character Finished.
Man and rat under profile.
Fine tuning of background continues.

Tark, I know I said rogue/cleric, but I am able to do what I was trying with just cleric.

So, Dwarven Cleric of Brigh, Holbrecht Bastionne. Have some of the profile finished, but now that I'm not going to be rogue first, I have to change a lot.

I have a question. Will you be using a mapping tool? I'm not concerned with any particular one, just that I'm a visual person. Dots on grid squares work, just as long as I know whose dot is whose.

Yes, just to keep things tidy.

Submit a character with backstory and a brief description of physical looks, personality, class and race. In addition please answer the following questions in whatever way you see fit.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?

------------

First time PbP player here (But experienced in online chats and TT), I'll try and organize it correctly but I haven't quite got the hang of how it works yet.

Name: Kaydren Sulstep

Race: Human (Chelaxian)

Class: Sorcerer (Destined bloodline)

Physically: Kaydren has always garnered much attention as his features don't typical suit that of a Chelaxian. His hair is a blonde color while his eyes a vibrant green. While some would whisper behind his families back of the relations his mother may have held outside of wedlock, few would do so to his families face. Kaydren Stands at average height and seems to be a man of good health.

Personality: He is a kind man, but is often lead astray by women and his own desires to prove his worth to the world. Adventurous and cunning, he often leaps before he looks.

Background: Raised in Egorian, Kaydren wanted for nothing. Born of a noble house he had but only as for things he would want. But as he grew he felt this unpleasing and decided to leave his house to make his own way and write his name across the world upon his own power and abilities. Westcrown was chosen seemingly at random as something drew him in that direction, there he sets out now not knowing where he'll be tomorrow.

1. He has gone there to try and make a name for himself, feeling the inborn powers of a sorcerer and a destiny to be someone of importance to the world.

2. Kaydren has no interest in becoming a political leader, let the politics fall to the wolves that would tear each others throats for it. He would not try to establish anything new, nor try to take their place (At this point, but the character could change.)

3. From an OOC perspective, Kaydren will be a spellcaster. ICly, he will try to be humorous and caring to his allies.

4. I am unsure of at this point, I'd rather let the game take him in a direction that is natural rather than something I have planned at this point.

HellKnight: If casting a simple spell to turn him away wasn't possible, Kaydren would compliment him on his brutish looks and seek to engage him in stories of his victories.

If the character is approved, I will stat him out.

minor edit- dropped the alias. Cant have much notoriety at first level. :)

So what's the status of the selection process? Will this game be underway soonish?

Final selections will be made thursday.

I've a few in mind but I'm holding my sayuntil all possibilities are covered. I do know at least two inquisitors are going to be disappointed. Tons upon tons of skill monkeys applied here with a dabbling of arcane classes and only one divine spellcaster app.

I could submit a divine caster instead if needed. It's usually my first choice in classes. I just haven't played a Rogue since basic (as I've been a GM for about 30 years), and was looking forward to the opportunity. I'm not sure if I can get a Cleric done by Thursday with a decent backstory, but I do have some interesting starting thoughts for a Druid's backstory.

Anyway, I don't mind playing what's needed.

Do you need any other info. I am working on the full skill list and gear.

I am waiting with baited breath. Rat even found some popcorn.

Get in or not I expect I'll be lurking. Looks like a good mix of applicants.

And hey a Witch is kind of a divine caster, can use the wands anyway.

We look to be a little light on Hacking as well.

I like Pollux and Castor, (yes I know ... but rats don't get top billing.... Because they are rats. ... I know it's wrong but it's the way things are right now ... what do you mean your agent will hear about this?) but if needed I have a backup Fighter ready-ish.

Curious as to whether or not the pair of Rhys and Edgar get in :)

I will be lurking though for sure :D

Tark, are you allowing alternative racial traits and favored class alternatives?

I've just chosen them myself, as part of the APG. Core + APG is already accepted as noted above.

Oh, all I have is the SRD. Is all of the APG optional rules? They just said optional so I wanted to be sure. Is everything on the SRD that doesn't say 3PP in the Core+APG?

Yes, pretty much. What are you hoping to use? I can let you know if it's in or out.

Oh, it was just the racial alternative traits, trading greed for craftsman.

I'll toss my hat into the ring with...

LeVash, stalker in the twilight.

LeVash sticks to the shadows, the prominent scar on his cheek and his jet black hair mostly hidden by the wide-brimmed hat he wears. When seen clearly, his eyes are brilliant green, and his gaze is intense.
At 5'10" and 160#, he is of average size and build and fairly graceful. His heavily padded grey and black clothing seems designed to blend in to the shadow, as do his dark cloak and hat

LeVash has some small reputation among Wescrani as someone dedicated to embarassing the Hellknights (sometimes embarassing them into doing their jobs...but mostly just doing his best to be an irritant), while attempting to enforce some sort of rough justice for those without wealth. His favored time seems to be twilight. He is never seen during the day, and no one is about in the streets at night.

On the surface, LeVash is flamboyant, sometimes seeming to have dialog lifted from swashbuckling heroes in various plays and operas. When the surface is scratched, however, there is an iron resolve within him to change things.

LeVash is an obvious pseudonym, so...

Who is LeVash?:

The man behind the dark-haired and scarred LeVash is the blond (and scar-free) Pavo Wintrish, one of the last of the aristocratic Wintrish family.

Class: Druid (Urban Archetype), with the Leadership or Thought domain (depending on which is more appropriate for the game)
Background: The Wintrish family was one of the early families to support diabolic practices, and it looked like they were on the fast track towards becoming a noble house and a primary seller of trained wolfhounds for the newly minted Hellknights...and then things changed. The Wintrish house seemed to lose their ambition and the 'spark' that had driven them. For never adequately explained reasons, the Wintrish's stopped attending social events, divested many of their business interests (or lost them in poorly constructed deals), and generally ceased the pursuit of power that meant success in Cheliax. Now, only two Wintrish's survive; Pavo and his twin brother, Solan.

Solan seems to have inherited the reclusive eccentricities that have characterized the Wintrish family over the past several generations, but Pavo has broken that mold. He has entered the Westcrown social scene, attending the opera, appearing at the Midsummer Ball, and apparently looking for ways to increase his marriagability.

The Truth behind the Wintrish decline:
(Note: I'm a bit fuzzy on how long the Chelaxian Theocracy has been in place, so some timeline correction may be necessary)
At one time, the Wintrish blood had grown thin and nearly sterile. The Lord Wintrish of the time, desperate for an heir, contracted with a Fae Witch to restore his family's fertility, which she did by infusing him with a Spirit of the First World. The Wintrish Line was saved, and picked up an amazing facility with animals as a side effect...all in all, an amazing bargain with no downside.
Three generations ago, the price became evident. As the power of diabolists rose, something in the Wintrish blood was triggered; the Green rebelled against what was happening, and Wintrish children were born...different. Some had distinctly elven features, and it was at first assumed that there had been an affair that was quickly hushed up, but others were not so subtle in their deformity. Green skin, leafy hair, animalistic features such as claws or digitigrade limbs, these were the curses of the first group of Wintrish children, many of whom were killed outright before anyone could discover their secret. The Wintrish sterility was now an issue of actions, not nature. Unable to compete in the increasingly vicious social environment, and terrified that their secret would be outed, the Wintrish house turned in on itself.
Whether by accident or design, the Green adapted. The last of the Wintrish line, Pavo and Solan, have no noticeable physical deformities, but both have a burning desire to stem the tide of the Asmodean theocracy. Solan, disgusted with humanity in general, is an Urban Ranger, with Humans as his favored enemy. He prowls the city killing those he has judged to be damaging, and arranging for it to look like the blight did them in.
Pavo, on the other hand, has decided that it need not be incompatible to exist in the Aristocracy and serve the drives of the Green. He has decided to rebuild his lost house, to make it a force that can ameliorate the excesses of the diabolists. And if he enjoys himself in the process, that's fine too, right? He is a member of the Aristocracy, after all, and he deserves the finer things in life.
Not stupid, Pavo has developed a separate identity that he uses to placate the brightness that roils within him. LeVash operates in the twilight (at least until he can survive the night), defending the weak (and incidently causing problems for those families he sees as political rivals). How long he can maintain his two-tiered lifestyle in the face of increasing drives to do something dramatic.

Daily Routine: Each afternoon, (assuming no social obligations) Pavo leaves the estate and finds a secluded place to change identites to Kuda, a simple servant. He crosses West, goes to Kuda's flat, and re-emerges as LeVash. In the twilight hours he acts as LeVash, returning to Kuda's flat to sleep.
Early in the morning, LeVash re-emerges, until just before full dawn, when he returns to the flat and becomes Kuda.
Kuda travels to Westcrown Island to transact his business, finds an alley to become Pavo, and heads home, where he is Pavo for the day.

Traits:
Rich Parents: Pavo Wintrish is one of the last of the once prominent Wintrish family. Although the estate is crumbling, he still has some resources.
Shadow Child: Pavo, as LeVash, has spent a great deal of time in the twilight, and is very comfortable there.

Connections/Hooks: Solan, his brother, is a much darker figure than Pavo, and may step over the line and become that which he fights. Other connections might include rivals who resent his attempts to resurrect his family's influence, family slaves (yes, he owns slaves), possibly even a potential fiance (and/or the skeptical family of the potential bride).

Note, much of this depends on how high a social status is appropriate. The background could conceivably be stepped down to the merchant class.
Initial purchases would include a 3 months worth of doubled Average Lifestyle cost. This includes rent on "Kuda's" flat and the crumbling Wintrish estate.
---------------------------------------

1. Why are you in Westcrown? "I live here, as have my family for generations. Leave? I don't think so. It is time for the Wintrish fortunes to rise again."

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?
Pavo would definitively look to see the house of Thrune removed and replaced...but would *never* say so.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group? Early on, LeVash will contribute light melee capability along with a spell load designed to assist in foiling pursuit. Once the party has his trust, then the social advantages of an Aristocratic House (even a minor and crumbling one) become relevant, and later on an Urban Druid becomes very effective at intrigue and information gathering.

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? I expect the LeVash persona to become more relevant until Pavo becomes the mask, not LeVash. Functionally, I'm thinking of a Batman/Zorro crossover.
Mechanically? Likely to stay pure Druid, though I've played around a bit with taking a level of Rogue (Acrobat).

I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?
Pavo: "Sir Knight, are you aware of who I am? I'm certainly not the sort of riff-raff who needs to occupy your valuable time."
LeVash: LeVash tosses a Smoke Pellet or Flash Powder bead at the feet of the Hellnight and ducks around the corner, keeping quiet until he has a rooftop between him and the Hellknight , then pops up long enough for a quick taunt before disappearing with a theatrical swirl of the cape.

Tark, this is Aardvark's character.

I finally finished all the numbers and put them in a format I like. I realize I have the same pic as Tok, if we are both selected I will see if I can find another one that works for my premise.

I just need to do spells and backstory.

EDIT: found a new pic

That's great and all but until you submit a proper app I can't consider anything.

Quote:
Tark, are you allowing alternative racial traits and favored class alternatives?

Long as it's cited to be from the APG I'm fine with it.

Okay so to recap the potential candidates:

Pollux - Witch
Caldazar-CG Inquisitor
Tok - LN Dwarf Monk
Morrazone - (Rogue)Swashbuckler
Sclivian - LN Wizard
Solarious- Ranger
Calumny - CN Inquisitor of Calistria
Edgar and Rhy - Urban Ranger/Inquisitor of Cayden Cailean
Aaardvark - Cleric
Hisoka Hachiro - Alchemist
Koral Mordaen - Rogue
Rokan - Rogue
Evildmn - Sorcerer
LeVash - Druid

And a quick class breakdown
3 Rogues
3 Inquisitors
2 Rangers
1 Witch
1 Wizard
1 Alchemist
1 Sorcerer
1 Monk
1 Cleric
1 Druid

15 Apps, hmmmmm.

I might run 2 groups. We'll see.

So some questions and clarifications for people.

Edgar, Rhys and Calumny:
So I'd really like to be able to consider the interaction these three have with the straight man edgar fighting against his friends chaotic tendencies with claumny egging him on in the background.

Thing is, for me to consider this someoen has to give up the inquisitor chair. Either of your concepts can work just fine without being an inquisitor. Cleric, rogue, bard, or any other class can fit either concept without much trouble. If one of you is willing to do this that will make the chances of you being in a group much better than without.

Pollux:
Do you want to roleplay the rat? Or do you mind if I do? Only asked because I've had fun playing someoens cowardly and not altogether friendly mephit familiar. I'm imagining the rat as a streetwise, food obsessed rodent who acts like this is his job now and that taking care of you is somehow highly inconvinient to him. Though never reveals how or why. If not no worries it won't affect things either way.

I don't know which class I could substitute with to keep the same feel right now, will have to reconsider a bit.

Kordel Mordaen is my submission. :)
My post above answered the Background summary and Westcrown questions. The avatar contains his character sheet which includes appearance and a shorter background summary. Did I overlook something else?

Though I like the sorcerer, I am willing and able to take on Fighter / Cavalier / Wizard / Barbarian if you feel any of those would be more suitable and are in need of a brawler / meatshield

There's relatively few dedicated beatstick apps. And I won't stop people from putting in more than one character.

I have an idea for a straight cleric, I'll try to get something up today about it. :)

Who drives the rat?:

Feel free. I may hop in every now and then if I think of something cool and/or funny. I may also just post onliners that Castor would use for you to pick up if you like. So basically have fur torturing the poor witch with his 3hp spellbook. 3hp, ye gods do I wish I could get improved familiar early.
Oh shall i make a profile a'la smith for castor I figure if we both do so using the same image and only very slightly differing names it would work. Something like 'Castor the rat' and 'Castor, river rat'.

Issues.
Alignment.
Any prob with the NE alignment? It is the best I could come up with for someone who wants to burn the empire and salt the ashes but still wants to help the trodden on. Kind of a help locally burn globally mindset.

Hexes.
Witches can take brew potion through a hex at lvl 1. I am considering it for lvl 1 or 2. I know many AP's have very little downtime for brewing so I am wondering if, in your current view of the AP, this and item creation feats in general will be worth taking?

Housing.
How are you dealing with the living space isue? Many of the characters live in westcrown so we have to live somwhere. Is this just a background issue to be handwaves when needed or do we need to spend lifestyle cash?

Mechanically, heal/combat mix, possible dips into Sorcerer after every 3rd level for Abyssal bloodline though not set in stone.
5) I'll say nothing, I will find this one again soon.

Background...

Zoon a native of Westcrown, was born with a birthmark resembling the symbol of Rovagug. Shamed by this symbol of chaos, his father murdered his mother and abandoned him to the streets. Zoon's sister took pity on him and kept track of his whereabouts helping him when she could in secret. The streets hardened him as he kept his need for vengeance contained. During these years he lived in a library sneaking in after hours and leaving before dawn. The owner was aware of it but allowed it to continue as Meraxilar would tidy up the library and demonstrated a thirst for knowledge. What the owner did not know was that Meraxilar was learning all he could about Rovagug and other abyssal things.
During this time he also fell in with shady types and learned to use the Greataxe, Rovagug's favored weapon.
Eventually he began spreading rumors into the right Egorian ears about his former noble family. The rumors were of them secretly courting abyssal denizens. His family was soon purged by order of House Thrune itself and as a reward for turning them in he was imprisoned for 15 years. Now he is free and is searching for his sister, he had warned her about what was coming. He fears she may not have survived the massacre.

I finished Meraxilar Zoon's sheet, I'll put it under the avatar when I get home from work.
His domains are Destruction and the Demon subdomain from the APG. He channels Negative Energy and spontaneous casts Inflict spells.
His feats are Combat Casting and Command Undead.

Yes he can heal too :)
He keeps CLW and Stabilize always prepared, Healers kit etc.

I think I now prefer this cleric to my rogue submission. :)

I might be willing to change Calla's class. I've been really wanting to play an inquisitor, but it looks like I'm starting another PBP also, and have come up with another inquisitor that seems fun to play (so I'd be OK playing something different here). Let me look around, but I could see doing her as a fighter, ranger or possibly sorcerer (last time I tried to play a bard, I wasn't that pleased with the character and don't really have much interest in clerics; I tend to play rogues a lot so am trying to stretch some muscles).

Do you have any idea what other classes you're thinking of accepting? I guess seeing as Edgar's a ranger, I'd veer away from that, but I don't want to remake her only to have her duplicate another character you're thinking of taking.

If you want, I could go for rogue instead with the Spy archetype. The backstory wouldn't change too much, instead of being taught the arts of inquisitor...y stuff by the followers of Cayden Cailean, he'd be an undercover agent (I'd buff charisma a lot more, change some skills and such) and my ultimate goal would be to become a Master Spy. I'd definitely work on being the face of the group, though, and probably two-weapon fighting as well (for DAT OSSUM SNEEK ATTACKU).

I'll make the alternate Rhys for this purpose. The general concept here, though, is that Rhys and Edgar are fighting for the same thing, but with different means, so Chaotic will be Rhys's initial alignment. If he goes Spy/Master Spy, though, he might shift into Lawful at some point.

Will this work?

It's up to you, Rhys (and the DM obviously). I've got my new inquisitor build elsewhere that I'm excited about, so I can come up with a fighter build for Calla. Her personality will be the same and I won't need to change the backstory at all (she just spent a little less time in the temple, mostly using it as a refuge). Was just looking at the class now.

Alrighty. I'll discuss it with Edgar in any case, the characters are VERY similar (both have 7 con *facedesk*).

In any case try to have an answer to me sometime tonight. I only need ONE of you to change. Or you can both change if you like as well.

So let's take a look at this cleric here...

Oh...

Oh my...

You're making it difficult for me in that I'm perfectly fine playing either character. If you've picked a good face though, and motteditor is okay with going a fighter-type instead, I'll stick to the inquisitor. But if you feel the party face is lacking, then I can go with the rogue.

I'm content with both characters, so it honestly depends on you. Edgar doesn't mind either.

umm... hope you like it :/

Its a leap for me too, I usually play the standard Cleric/Druid archtypes. This one is so..... neutral for me. ;)

Since I haven't made any final decisions in that regard I don't think that will be a particular problem.

So I guess it comes down to motteditor.

Alrighty. For what it's worth, if there's too many rogues or inquisitors then I can always step out - I could make a third character that isn't a skill monkey if it'd make it easier for you.

I don't know anything about CoT, but am I missing something here? There just seems to be a lot of things like tieflings, evil, crazy, violent floating around. Is my character way off base?
