Adventure Modules in Adventure Paths

Kingmaker

Hi all!

I wasn't sure what thread to put this under, so I stuck it under the General Discussion one, hope it's ok.

Anyway, I'm running a Kingmaker campaign, and have been looking at some of the adventure modules as a way to add a little more story to the game (not that it specifically needs it, I'm just looking to throw a little extra at my players)

So I wanted to know if there were any adventure modules that might be a good fit into the Kingmaker Campaign?

What level?

Right now the party is level 4, almost level 5

there are three modules that are wilderness adventures w1 w2 w3 two are for lvl 4 one for lvl 6. ine never done any of them just thoughtba wilderness focused nodule would be most suitable.

Moved thread.

Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale fits perfectly in Kingmaker.

Conquest is the Paizo version of Keep on the Borderlands from back in '79. A great little sanbox-like adventure with a wilderness setting.

It's 3.5, not Pathfinder.

Edit: Just noticed someone already mentioned W1 -- that's Conquest.

+1 to Conquest

Also I'll throw in Realm of the Fellnight Queen

But I'd like to specifically highlight a great 3PP setting and module set, Tales of the Old Margreve has been a trove of good quests and areas for me.

Some people have also fully transplated Hook Mountain Massacre (RotRL#3) into Kingmaker.

Thanks all for the help! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for those W# adventures then.

I worked Carnival of Tears in as a Kingdom Event and I am currently running Realm of the Fellnight Queen with a slightly different lead-in working in one of the folks that had escaped from the party in Stolen Lands. Definitely recommend Realm of the Fellnight Queen though.

I'm a little sad because Carnival of Tears would have been a wonderful event for our Kingmaker game, but our group has already run through it under another DM.

I plan to use Dark Oak from Raging Swan. Seems pretty perfect to continue on lizardfolk-problems from Rivers Run Red.

I'm adding masks of the living god, carnival of tears and realm of the fellnight queen.

+1. I ran this a couple years ago for my Ravenloft group, which has some of the same players. :(

I am going to steal the Dark Ice Creature template once winter sets in, though, and am thinking of having Quinn's Circus do a cameo appearance at Oleg's.

That's awesome! I hope it works out well for you. I'd definitely be keen to find out how it goes. I had planned to do the same in my campaign, but sadly my group had a rather nasty and fatal encounter in a certain lost elven citadel with a certain saucy fey dancer...

It looks like there are some cool encounters in this module, but the general premise seems a little too close to what happens toward the end of Kingmaker anyway.

My question is, to you or anyone who owns this module, would it be easy to rip just a few of these encounters out of Fellnight and put them in forest hexes on the regular Kingmaker map?

Kindof, but that wouldn't be worth the price of admission.

Fellnight spoilers:

Spoiler:
- The wedding scene at the beginning could be used as a fun mini event.
- The hidden druid grove could be used.
- and that's about it.
The rest of the events are too tightly tied together to neatly seperate out. It's a somewhat linear adventure that wants to be played as a continuous plotline.

But why not make Rhoswen a vassal of Nyrissa? One of the complaints about the KM path is that the BBEG seems to come out of nowhere. Having Rhoswen there as a herald or lieutenant could help tie things together.

After reading it my expectations are HIGH! I will tell you gladly how everything worked out.

The leader has been an iconic moralist in said citadel. :(

Fellnight spoilers:** spoiler omitted **

In my game...

Spoiler:
Rhoswen is Nyrissa's daughter by Count Ranalc which also explains why she got involved with Shadow Magic in the first place.

I think TC1: Into the Haunted Forest would work well at the beginning of Kingmaker. And it has some "unlockable" magic items that you can personalize quests for.

That is exactly what I did! The players are hanging on to those "unlockable" magic items because they want to see what they develop into as they level. Matter of fact, that reminds me that I need to get on that as they are all 4th level now. Time for a step up me thinks!

I had the same idea for my run of Kingmaker. I'm putting 1-2 "Classic Modules" in at each phase of the adventure path. Might push the players up a level or two, but I can tweak things around with some work to make that fine (honestly from what I can tell, Kingmaker is lethal enough that a little level inflation won't matter a lot).

We're just starting out, and the first two are a re-tooled Keep on the Borderlands and In Search of the Unknown.

Ahhhhh, nostalgic.

Liberty's Edge

I inserted Hollow's Last Hope D0 with the mindset of introducing D1 Crown of Kobold King and D1.5 Revenge of the Kobold King later.

This is to tie in to the Sootscale kobolds.

Spoiler:

While the PCs became "allies" (albeit a rocky relationship) to the Sootscales, the kobold crown was worn by red-scale kobolds who were enemies of the Sootscale that the PCs had to intervene with and help the Sootscale defeat their age-old rivals.

I just finished D1. In a rather surprising turn of event,

Spoiler:

the PCs sold the crown to Varnhold - Maegar's M.O. for wanting it was just to keep it out of the sootscale's hands in case the kobold ever proved more a thorn than a rose to the neighboring civilizations. (I introduced Varnhold much earlier on to be a neighboring ally of the PCs)

I'm now working on a way to transition the story into D1.5 and how to incorporate that surprising move by the PCs into the story.

After D1.5, I'm introducing Realm of the Fellnight Queen.

Spoiler:

I too and having Rhoswen be Nyrissa's daughter. I have been leaving foreshadowing events of the presence of the fey queen's presence in the Stolen Lands.

All the while I've used the Margreve adventure hooks and flavor by Open Design, and used the various sandboxy events in the Bloodsworn Vale module by Paizo.

There are a few Dungeon Crawl Classics that also work well by Goodman Games.

Another game planning on using Fellnight Queen here:

Spoiler:

I've already introduced Tenzekil Baybrittle, reclusive beekeeper alchemist during the first module (same hex as the Fangberries), and I placed Dead Man's Drop just downriver of the Tatzlwyrm Den.

I plan on moving Tatzlford slightly downstream, and having it substitute for Bellis. I'm seriously hoping I can swing this to occur during a PC wedding.

My only worry was my group's reaction to Tenzekil. They recognized that he was falling prey to the bleaching, and when they received their kingdom charter they did an excellent job of selling him on the position of Magister as a fascinating new project..specifically in order to prevent the bleaching. (Pre-bleached Tenzekil has a higher CHA in my game)

I think I'm going to have Tenzekil show continuing health issues as a result of his prior experimentation (his contribution to the kingdom will become spotty), and he'll and end up in some sort of coma shortly before I startup Fellnight Queen...what they will meet is a a 'First World shadow' of Tenzekil, that is following the Queen in order to maintain his separate existence from the real Tenzekil.

Hm...also think she is going to be the Fellnight Duchess, should it come up, and I'll see if the group begins to wonder if there is someone above her...

Hey Robert:

I am planning on doing the same thing and using some of the Bloodsworn Vale encounters as Events when they get rolled during the kingdom building part of the campaign.

Hah! Awesome. As the guy who created both the Fellnight Queen and Tatzlford, I'm quite pleased by this mash-up. :-)

Thats a great idea, Lisa! I've been placing the areas/topographical features of Bloodsworn scattered throughout the green belt.

Using events to steer the PCs into action at one of those locales sounds like an easy implementation.

I'll have to try that at least once. Thanks.

Shadow Lodge

I will be incorporating Bloodsworn into my campaign areas in the Greenbelt, as well as expanding the size of the Nalmarches and using locales in Tales of Old Margreve. I'll be using Fellnight and Carnival of Tears as well during the campaign.

I've used Pathfinder Society Scenarios as well for side quests to tie into Kingdom Building events. For example, during one Event Phase an adventurer retired in the PC's city. Shortly after I ran the Frozen Fingers of Midnight and used Skelg the Ripper as the retired adventurer, bringing baggage from his past with him in the form of his curse, and the PCs had to help him out to avoid losing a valuable member of their society.

I would not use PFS modules as now you just burnt those modules to those players.

The PFS scenarios I used were Season 0 (which I think can't be used for credit anymore with PFS) and none of my players are registered with and/or aren't interested in PFS.

We just finished part one of our Raging Swan's Dark Oak in Kingmaker. The module could be set into the AP just perfectly. Everything fits: environment, foes etc. The only thing I couldn't use without exception was the art. Lu the treant was great pictured, but the lizardfolks don't fit the Golarion-ones from RRR.

When we finish DO I'll write some more lines on it.
