Scarab Sages 2/5

Is there a chronicle sheet somewhere for this adventure? I don't see one in my PDF of KQ #17.

Lantern Lodge 4/5

There should be one added to both the Kobold Quarterly 17 product page and the Additonal Resources page later today.

Not quite sure how I feel about this idea.

I know I don't really want to buy non-Paizo product to get PFS stuff.

I probably will not be offering this locally, though I wouldn't be adverse if someone else did.

Liberty's Edge 5/5 **

I don't have a Kobold Quarterly subscription but I'll consider getting that issue if the adventure is any good.

Care to post a blurb?

To be the devil's advocate here for Cblome. I've been interested in Kobold Quarterly for a while but have had issues justifying the cost of something I can't easily tell the value of initially. This may be the kicker for me to finally jump into it.

I've got nothing against KQ and know its run by good folk.

This is just another thing that makes me raise an eyebrow. I certainly won't be investing in KQ just because it has PFS stuff. It actually makes me want to shy away from it.

I'm having a hard time thinking of words to express my feelings on this. I'll adopt a 'wait and see' attitude like I did with the novel chronicle sheets. But I'm not itching to jump into this.

There will be many outlets to get Pathfinder Society Quests and we're (obviously) not against spreading the net a little wider to show people who may not know about PFS what it's all about. For the time being, Ambush in Absalom is the only Quest, and thus requires access in digital or physical format to KQ #17, but we'll have them available other places, including paizo.com as we add to the number of resources for this additional PFS adventure series.

Ummmmm it's by Mark. I think it might just be good.

Hey Mark! Where are you finding time to write for other companies? You should be spending your extra time on your long To Do list for PFS!

Writing the first in what we hope will be a long line of Pathfinder Society Quests was on the todo list. That said, it was a freelance project, and writing it was done totally off the clock, as if it were a scenario I'd written.

WHAT?!? Why are you being given time off the clock? I'll have to report this egregious violation to the paracountess. Get back to work!

Seems like I'm going to have to get out the cattle prod... when are you going to learn Mark. You don't get time off the clock. I'm going to "prod" you twice for this producer/consumer agreement violation.

Something tells me the paracountess would be upset if he didn't get time off the clock.

We are talking about his fiancee, right?

+1

I've been patiently waiting a few days since the original post but still haven't seen the chronicle sheet posted here yet. I've got my pdf copy and hard copy of KQ but I still can't run it!

Edit: OK, now it's posted as part of the KQ #17 description in the Paizo store, but it's not listed with the other Modules and Tales Chronicle Sheets at the bottom of the Resources Page. Please post a link there, too, so that all these extra goodies can be found in one place.

We have an update coming to the Additional Resources page next week when subscriptions start to go out and will add this along with the rest of the new products.

One thing I like about the Ambush in Absalom is that it's short and specific enough that novice GMs (even a few 10-year-olds I know) should be able to run it successfully.

As this is the first Quest, I suppose I get to purge all of my confusion on this one. My apologies for requesting information that most everybody else would consider common sense.

So, Ambush in Absalom can be played over and over again. Each time, the players all get a boon, and the GM gets nothing but a good time. The players can expend all manner of wealth, and can even die. But none of that counts; the goodies and life come back, and the boon is always gained. The same character can get multiple copies of the boons, but they don't stack.

Thanks, Dragonmoon. But could I ask you to cite that? Generally speaking, GMs never get boons. (Or am I behind the times again?)

That's my reading of the "Pathfinder Society Quests" sidebar in the magazine as well.

KQ 17 wrote:
A legal Pathfinder Society PC may receive a Chronicle for completing a Quest as many times as he completes it, and a game master may likewise apply a Chronicle to any of his characters when running a Quest.

Since the Chronicle doesn't give any gold or XP and the Quest has no faction missions, applying the Chronicle would only benefit a GM's character by giving the boon.

However I don't see the provision that conditions (including death) and items consumed reset after playing a Quest. Was this stated in another thread?
The reason for doing this with sanctioned modules (that the player might play another scenario with the same character while a multi-session sanctioned module is underway) doesn't seem to apply here.

No, death and expendables being spent dont count.

Also, you dont get both boons listed. The chronicle specifically says to pick one and mark out the other.

The Exchange 5/5 RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Right, godsDMit. If you want both boons, you need to play the two battles twice.

I'd love to see a PFS Quest in every KQ... but I can settle for every other one. =D

I'd love to see one in every KQ as well, but I think we missed the boat for the next issue. Maybe every issue starting beginning in the fall? Let Wolfgang know you want to see more PFS content in KQ and we'll see what happens.

Ya know, I hear another monthly publication just freed up 2 pages by cutting out its pre-generated characters....

Lol @ Neil.

Do the PFS Quests need to be registered and reported like scenarios and modules? Im assuming no, since it doesnt give any experience, but just wanting to make sure, as Im gonna run it next weekend at our con if there is any down time between slots.

At the time PFS Quests and PFS Tales are not reported. Only scenarios and modules are.

I think the Ambush at Absolom would be the perfect 1st encounter for some freshly made characters.

Often when starting a game, you make your new characters then by the time you are finished, there isn't really enough time to do much else. This Ambush in Absolom would be the perfect thing for latter half of a gamins session, to give something for people to do with their newly minted characters.

I was thinking of trying it out at the PFS game i am planing to run tomorrow night. where might i find the chronicle sheet? thanks. I have tried the additional resources page, but found nothing.

Perhaps i have missed something

Hey Omega man,

Its good to hear from you. Thank you. its Myles. Im sure as you know I miss many things that are right under my nose ( either that or i realize instead of needing a new prescription for my glasses, all they need is some soap and water)

I have run some friends up here in Brattleboro VT in a home game, through The citadel of Flame, Murder on the SIlken Caravan, and The Prince of Agustana. I think they are having fun. Tomorrow its the Mists of the Mwangi.

I hope everything is going well with the the gang down at Game Theory. Please say Hi for me.

Last weekend i went to a small convention in Pennsylvania called Mepacon. I had allot of fun.

We played in a high tier 10-11 of "the forbidden Furnace of the forgotten Koor and I was able to

Play my character Fatum.

Spoiler:
Although i did have fun playing lost at bitter end, it was nice to have the use of my characters spells for this adventure. My mystic theurge was able to "hamster ball" his way through a nasty trap with a "otiluke's ressiliant sphere, and while staying safely in another room he used a combination of spectral hand and Arcane Eye, to take part in a battle, delivering cure spells, and touch spells. good times
I think we all had a good time.

Thanks again Omega Man for pointing me in the direction of the chronicle sheet.

Myles

I am in the process of prepping this adventure. I am a bit fuzzy on the map locations. Is the intention for the GM to place the encounters wherever they feel like it? Based on the descriptions it is not clear to me where exactly they go based on the segment presented in the magazine.

Thanks for the assistance.

Grand Lodge 3/5

Elorebaen,

map locations:
The PC's originally come in from the west side of the pictured map. The trap is set to the south of the big pipe coming in from the north. The kobolds are in the small pipes.

I ran the 2nd encounter with the PCs coming around the corner, and the kobold group on the east side of the map.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

I put the first encounter as they entered the tiles on the left and then the second one right around the corner. They mopped up the bad guys pretty easy and the entire thing was over in one hour.

Is it necessary to fill out the entire chronicle? I ask, because the players do not actually expend any resources.

Thank you.

Nope. Though if they want to buy something they already have access to so they have it ready to go for next time, then you'd use that part. Otherwise it's just a record that they have the boon to use down the road.

Is Ambush in Absalom still allowed for PFS play? I can not find it listed in the Create Events listing.

4/5 **

Yes, it is legal, but quests do not get reported because they are "filler" material and not full games.
