It might be cool to have a trait that allows any character to start with the Gunslinger's "junk" gun - that way, characters who want to be gun users but don't want to have to wait until they're rich enough to afford them to realize their character concept can take it.
If a gunslinger took it, they'd simply start with an extra gun, allowing two-pistol gunslingers from the outset again.
What do you think?

It's technically already possible with the Ancestral weapon trait (which gives a masterwork version, and they gain a +1 bonus to attack on top of that).
Would this trait give only proficiency with this single weapon (like the above trait), or would it give proficiency in that weapon type, or all guns?
Considering the current alternative, it seems like such a trait should give something more than just a starting junk weapon.

I believe you mean Heirloom Weapon (Adventurers Armory). That trait doesn't give you the weapon for free. It gives you proficiency with that specific weapon, gives you a +1 trait bonus to attack with it, and lets you purchase a masterwork version of it at normal price at character creation. You'd still run into the issue that guns are too expensive for level 1 characters.

The original intent of the idea is sound.
You could select or roll for the flaw that makes the gun affordable.
1. Stolen. Just because a deceased parent stole it doesn't mean they are not still looking for it.
2. Inaccuracy aiming. -3 to hit
3. Inaccuracy stopping power. -3 total damage, minimum of 1.
4. Increased chance of misfire. If it only misfires on a chance of 1. Add 2 more possibilites, 1-3 misfire.
Paying for gun repair or reimbursing the original owners family could negate the flaw. You would be making up the difference.
Yes, it would be a pistol.
