After a very long hiatus from gaming, and little RL gaming time on my hands, I have come back to the paizo fold. :)
I am looking for 4 or 5 players, and plan on at least 2 posts per day.
If you're proposing something other than from the core PF rules, please let me know what the source is so I can look it over. Not saying it won't be allowed, but I would prefer to stay true with the PF rulesets. The only character races not allowed would be drow, duergar, or any other classically evil races.
Abilities will be purchased with 20 points.
The following items will be 'given' to you (no cost for purchase): backpack, waterskin, 1 days rations, flint and steel.
A short summary of your character, and possible reasons to be in Riddleport are helpful. The more 'tantalizing' your character, the more I'll give it deeper consideration.

"tiefling rogue" (scout archtype)
a yokai ninja apprentice who fled her clan back in the minkai empire. perpetually young.
you can read her info on this alias. it may need to be edited but i tried to apply her for another pbp and the group didn't like her.
something about psychopathic little girls. her optional tiefling appearance trait is her exotic eyes.
but for stats (assuming 20 point buy)
Str 12
Dex 16
Con 14
Int 16
Wis 14
Cha 6
with a 25 point buy, i could have 13 str and 10 cha. which would indeed be my preference.
tom_thiessen
Expressing tentative interest, would want to look at the players guide to see if it is a campign I could do justice to...
Preempting the other posters -
Have you run a PBP before, how are you with maps, yada yada? :p
Ran a few single-shot adventures online, 12 yrs RL DMing experience...D&D 2nd ed, d20 Star Wars, d&d 3.5, cyberpunk, mutants and masterminds, and pathfinder.
As far as maps go, will be using some tilesets I've scanned, and can then edit them in photoshop as combat progresses (with a grid system overtop).
Should a player want to explore something off the beaten path of the adventure module, I can usually facilitate it (so long as we're not using up valuable bandwidth and getting sidetracked for too long).
I don't believe in killing off PCs needlessly, so if you've spent a lot of time working on a character concept, you don't need to worry that I will try to kill them off the first chance I get.
Not sure what else you wanted, but ask away if I missed something. :)

my other idea if you don't like the ninja is a modified recycling of Kira Moonsong.
Kira would be a 76 year old elven sorceress of the sound elemental bloodline. not so much homebrew as much as a series of tweaks to an existing elemental bloodline. just take all "fire" references to the fire elemental bloodline and change them to "sonic references".
rough stat block for Little Miss Moonsong
Str 7
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 16
wis 12
Cha 15
Feat would be toughness.
Kira was raised almost Exclusively by her great, great, great, great, great, great, grandfather, whom was a Chaotic Good paragon half elder sound elemental great wyrm dragonwrought kobold. she called her guardian, "Uncle Steve". Kira's parents died adventuring and her surrogate father/ancestor took her to riddleport to help her start a new life after her infamous "teasing" back in Ilmarsh, shortly after her older sister, Meryl, was executed for robbing the Ustalavian prince of his wallet. despite being unaware it was the prince she "teased" and "robbed". Kira had a hard time finding playmates in various cities before and still hasn't had much time to live out her childhood by elven standards. in an attempt to make a living, despite her former life as nobility, she could tease and steal no more. now, she had to pack it in, hard. lecherous pirates plowing her so she could make a little bit of spare coin. "Uncle Steve" had not the strength to lift another sewing needle nor to move again being on death's door. every last heirloom to become her inheritance, pawned for her current survival. her once amazing quality clothes, now rather worn. relying on her sorcerous talents to maintain them. what little purity she once called her own, now completely gone. broken by a decade of life in riddleport. she seeks to adventure to find a new home, and reclaim what she can of her ruined elven childhood. though she seeks to live in Kyonin, she doesn't want to be remembered for her newfound reputation for prostitution.

Tossin my hat into the ring, if you dont mind.
Thomas Sulkins- Human(Varisian/Chelish) Fighter
Str 16, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 13, Wis 12, Cha 10
Thomas was an only child of a single woman from a small town called Sandpoint. His mother died of a strange illness not even the town's priests could cure. He had never met his father, but knew that he had once been a fishermen in Riddleport, but wasn't sure if that was before or after his mother had met him.
He was alone in the world. Too young to get proper work and support himself. Too old to go to the orphanage, he had nowhere to go, so he took the only work he could find, which was help loading and unloading on caravans that traveled between towns in Varisia.
Over the few years he spent with the caravan, he learned how to use a sword and a bow;things most young men who travel Varisia must learn, thanks to all the goblins and bandits. Over the years, he went from being a thin adolescent boy to a well-muscled, yet soft-spoken young man.
When the caravan finally made a stop in Riddleport, Thomas decided the time was right. He needed some time for himself. Leaving the carvan behind him, he disapeared into the city to search for his father, though his only clue leads him to the docks and nothing more.
Let me know if you got any more questions about him.
Kira Moonsong
here is my rough draft for your review.
you can go ahead and laugh at this elven lass being suboptimal because she doesn't have a maxed out CHA. if i had 25 point buy, those extra 5 points would have gone to negating her strength penalty. save or suck is not her thing, Nuking people for boatloads of AoE sonic damage is.
Shifty
Thanks for those clarifications, I just see a lot of players jumping in and asking those Q's in a fairly abrupt manner, so thought I'd ask them earlier - some days its like the players feel they are doing the GM a favour by applying :p
Now am I to assume that as we would be 1st level peons who have basically been nowhere and done nothing you are looking for backgrounds that might be a little more normal a little less tortured and with a viable reason to be from the launch city? Some GM's want a sensible party, others are happy with a wandering circus freakshow (See the amazing monkey boy and the half fish man!)... :p
Similarly, is there anything else you are looking for by way of builds/backgrounds, and also is there a 'key' player/class that would be worth noting? (ie this adventure could realy use an X or class Y)
...like if I said I wanted an Aasimar Paladin or Cleric, how far over would that kick the applecart?
Kira Moonsong
the main reason kira is a tortured elf is because of her life as a "forlorn". most of her skills i picked were stuff from what she did back in Ilmarsh before she had to go. her surrogate father may be an elderly chaotic good kobold. but i beleive young prostitutes would be a fitting thing for the city of riddleport. her surrogate father had a job as a tailor before his old age got the better of him. the whole thing behind Kira is a "Pre Broken Cutie", the original Kira was a "Cutie in the process of Breaking". (shackled city player character with a similar theme, though the torture was done in game).
Kira was effectively raised by "Pun-Pun".
well, she was technically raised by a chaotic good paragon half elder sound elemental great wyrm dragonwrought kobold sound elemental bloodline sorcerer who did the whole "Pun-Pun" thing. said kobold fell in love with an elf, who produced a line of mostly elven descendants for roughly 8 generations.
Asuna
I have an idea that fell out of another campaign that I could throw in. The above character sheet is re-worked for Second Darkness. It's an alternate Tiefling based on the custom-Tiefling rules in Bastards of Erebus. Asura-bloodline, so mods are +2 Dex/Wis, -2 Int.
The Scouting For Fiends trait explains in part why Asuna might be in Riddleport. I could adjust his history so that he's a member of a local branch of the church of Sarenrae.
Alternately, I have an idea for a character that I haven't fully paged out yet. A Human Fighter who's currently on hiatus from the (Korvosan?) Guard Academy, and has made her way to Riddleport to get work as a mercenary while she's waiting for her hearing to go through. She started out in a street gang, then earned her way into the Academy through a fighting tournament. She managed to conceal that she was female until she hit puberty, and then she was temporarily relieved while they decided if she was allowed to continue. The justification was that she had lied about her gender. She's gotten used to being tough and playing male, and she takes offense at people who treat her as a soft female. Her weapon of choice is the Urumi, something of a cross between a whip and a longsword. Stats would be: Str 18, Dex 15, Con 13, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 8. Campaign trait would be Looking For Work. I'd prefer to run this character instead of Asuna, if I'm considered.
Kira Moonsong
i know, the spell name "sonic bullet" sounds cheap. but magic missile is also a fairly cheap spell name. am i allowed to describe Kira's mage armor spell as a cacophonic barrier created by a complex series of rapid movements? create least sonic boom (burning hands) will come at 3rd. sound arrow (scorching ray) a 5th. sonic sphere (fireball) at 6th, cacophonic warding (protection from energy) at 7th. would the clap of thunder reserve feat on page 40 of complete mage be allowed at 7th level? basically, a "nearly" at will melee touch attack that deals sonic damage based on the highest compatible unused spell slot.
there were not many kira worthy avatars so i took one of the 3 pages of merisiels. there are just too many bald guys and too many valeros pics. i found nothing fitting a "forlorn" elven child of Kira's pigmentation.
Kira Moonsong
@sweeny
you said something about an elven noblewoman and her father.
Kira is a noble on the run from Ustalav due to her older sister's execution.
Kira has been in varius cities since then and has spent roughly a decade in varisia. despite being an adolescent elf. Korvosa could have been one of them.
and Kira would have had massive heirloom inheretance potential if she didn't have to pawn off every last one to pay the bills.
she lives with a surrogate "father" whom is really her great, great, great, great, great, great, grandfather. whom would be very protective of his last known surviving descendant and would be the type to swear vengeance on those who threaten the last heir he has.
the only problems are
that her surrogate "father" is a really old kobold whom is likely in his mid 2800s.
and that by elven standards, Kira would "barely" be considered an adolescent.
and though at one point, there would have been a fortune to marry her for, there isn't much of one now.
Sweeney
I really like the idea of having a connected character background. I can easily tweak Sweeney's backstory to accommodate your 'father' being a kobold, and it would be fun to have the roleplaying oppertunity. Sweeney was raised by a human, so he typically sees things from a human perspective, so your character being an adolescent by elven standards wouldn't necessarily occur to him. In fact, it would be all the more emberassing for him to find that out later, heh.

it Turns out the party is going to be hurt especially bad by elf bane weapons. may i suggest that any elf bane weapons have the elf bane property converted into something equivalent in value but far less nasty?
I dont think the DM was intending on doing a first come first serve basis for the players, so it may not be an issue, depending on who he picks. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I will submit a half-elf bard-archivist. He was drawn to the Riddleport area to study the Thassilon rune stones in the region. Robbed of most of his money by the pirates he accidentally signed on with to get to Riddleport. About to be robbed, he challenged the Captain to a duel, thinking himself not a bad fencer, but the crew laughed and mobbed him, but left him his sword and books for his 'spunk'. He used his hidden reserve of coin to buy supplies and set out to the hinterland to map and document standing rune stones. Recently though, while out scouting for new stones, he returned to his camp to find that it had been ransacked. Left with what he was carrying, he dejectedly returned to Riddleport desperate for any means of making money so that he might be able to 1)live and 2)return to his studies.
He is book smart, and world naive. In school, he learned to fence, and discovered, in the world out there he will need to learn how to fight. His ivory tower existence has come crashing down around him as he finds himself nearly penniless and surrounded by thieves.
I will have a full profile up tonight after I get off work.
Any traits allowed? I don't have the Second Darkness player's guide, but would welcome any useful feats or traits from there that might fit this build. I will look into picking it up if selected.

I'm interested, but I understand if you've already got (more than) enough people proposing characters.
Just in case, a few questions:
Maximum Hit Points at level 1?
Average starting gold?
One campaign trait from the Player's Guide?
... would these be correct assumptions?
Plus... are there any house rules you use that the players should know about? Also, are there any character types or classes or whatever that you don't like? (It's always better to know that sort of stuff before hand...). Finally, what sort of play style would you be aiming at? Deep role-play? By-the-numbers room-sweeping dungeon-bash? Or something inbetween (or completely different)?
Depending on all that (and whether you need any more players or not) I was thinking of a half-orc Summoner. A tribal type (tattoos and piercings, with a greataxe as a weapon) who came to the city a few years back (was likely crewing on a ship) and fell in with the local underworld as yet another 'thug for hire', strongarming people in back-alleys and the like. He's grown tied of such a dead-end life, and wants out, but doesn't really have the resources to get himself a better life. His eidolon would be a big (as big as medium-size allows) demonic-looking thing - jet black with swirling glowing marks which match the Summoner's tattoo patterns - known as 'The Beast'... rarely used in his 'day job', but pulled out as necessary.
I'll develop a full write-up if you're interested.
Sorvahr
Having just read the posting, I'm also expressing interest. I have no character already statted up at the moment, but do have a concept.
Ulfen barbarian, something of a braggard and drunk, sailed to Riddleport amongst a crew of traders from his homeland. Unfortunately, his frequent indulgences had him too lost in the city to have made it back to ship for the ride home, and too broke from gambling and pickpockets to afford passage on another vessel. At this point, he's pretty desperate for coin and growing to resent the city that he feels took advantage of him.
If it's something worth considering, I can draw up a character sheet swiftly.
Emyralda
If I may, I'd like to submit Emyralda, Varisian celestial-bloodline sorceress, for consideration.
A shadow in the sky. A falling star. Barely-seen lithe shapes running swiftly through shadowy woods. A beautiful, primeval forest hiding a darkness at its core. A subterranean city of almost alien design and beauty, exuding a terrifying sense of malevolence..."
Emy awoke with a start, nearly falling from her seat next to her father at the front of the vardo. Guiltily, she glanced at her father from the corner of her eye, hoping that he hadn't noticed her lack of vigilance. She was supposed to be keeping an eye out for bandits and other dangers as their caravan traveled northward, having left yet another unremarkable village earlier that morning.
Emy pondered her strange dream as they rode along. For the past couple of months, the caravan had been traveling north, far from their normal routes in southern Varisia. All at the behest of Emy's great-grandmother Iylamora, the raunie of their tribe, who would say only that the Harrow dictated their path. Realizing that she could not remain focused on her task, Emy decided to ask her great-grandmother about her dream. Promising to send her younger brother to take her place, the young girl nimbly jumped down from her seat, making sure not to let her brightly-patterned skirts get caught up in the wheel, and walked to the back of the vardo as it slowly rolled forward. She hopped up onto the back step, and knocked lightly on the wooden door. "Babicka," she called softly, "may I enter?"
After a moment's pause, a faint voice answered, "Enter, child." Holding onto the gently swaying vardo, Emy opened the low door and ducked inside. As always, she found her great-grandmother seated at a low table in the center of the small room, gazing at her Harrow cards spread before her as incense wafted through the air. And as always, the sway of the moving vardo seemed to disappear as she entered Iylamora 's sanctum.
"Tell me, child, of this dream that disturbs you," Iylamora said by way of greeting, still gazing at the Harrow cards. Emy was not surprised, her great-grandmother always seemed to know what she was going to ask before she even knew herself.
Plopping down on the cushion set across the table from her great-grandmother, Emy smiled mischievously as she replied, "Why don't you tell me about my dreams, oh wise and powerful seer?"
"Your dream is what has led us here," Iylamora answered mysteriously, pausing before she continued. "This is the path that the Great Dreamer has set before you. The Harrow shows that you will meet brave and worthy companions, although the cards currently do not show their identities.” The old woman studied the cards before her intently, then gave a frown and shuffled them back into the deck. "No, their identities remain unclear. Perhaps as we get nearer to our destination..."
The old woman looked up and stared into Emy’s eyes as she continued, "Find any one of these companions, and they will lead you to the others. Together, you must make a stand against a darkness that threatens this land, perhaps even the world."
"Oh, is that all?" Emy asked facetiously in a small voice. After a moment, she asked in a stronger voice, "And where am I to meet these boon companions?"
"At our next stop," Iylamora replied solemnly. "Riddleport."
Thank you for your consideration. Happy gaming!

For consideration, a person of faith:
Kast was beginning to tire of dealing with gnomes and man, pirates and scoundrels, thieves and whores, but until he finished his current contract, we was bound. He had begun to hate those who came to make deals within the Gas Forges. It was not completely awful...if not for the customers, the job would be great: working with fellow dwarves on matters of metal and forge-work. What dwarf could ask for more?
Of course, binding others to contract was his job: wrapping the chains of contracts between two parties, even in such a chaotic, unlawful place as Riddleport, was as necessary here as it was in any other place, if not more so. In order for any society to advance, some organization *must* exist...and Kast provided that framework. And for that, he was in need.
Thankfully, Kast has but a few days left on *his* current contract and he was eager to finish up and walk away from it. Most of his customers had little desire to honor the contract and working with them was more tedium and chore than it should be. And, finally, it was about to end.
Kast was about to be free to find another contract or another path...and it could be one of his own choosing. He is looking forward to it. Maybe he would leave this damned city of pirates, quick wives, and thieves.
He could thank his clan for both his current contract and duties within the Gas Forge. He showed a quick mind and easy wisdom at an early age. It was the clan that recognized it and trained him in the arts of negotiation and appraisal in return for his years of apprenticeship within the Church of Angradd(TBD).
In a few days, Angradd(TBD) be praised, Kast was going to be free.
Personality:
Kast tends to be a fair and impartial negotiator during his business dealings working honestly to bring about a fair, but tough, deal between smith and customer. He is patient and willing to get into details as necessary...because that is, to be honest, wherein the devil lies.
Outside of work, Kast is sociable and friendly which makes him a bit different from some others of his ilk. Kast thinks he is social by nature, but inside part of him realizes that he talks to people as a way to measure their lives and what they do...and for comparison to his own.
Kast rarely drinks and when he does (he feels it slows his mind for numbers), it is not for pleasure. He drinks to forget his customers and their unreasonable complaints. Kast has a quick wit and somewhat ribald sense of humor (learned from those who work in the Gas Forges) and he will exhibit when he is relaxed.
Quick Overview:
Dwarven Male
Cleric or Oracle, Deity: TBD
Lawful Neutral (focusing on contract, civilization)
Party role: healing and artillery
Exact build to come, as needed

You're the first to reply, so you're elected :)
We need a consistent poster, who has a penchant for the arcane arts. Allowing APG, so you're not stuck with the sorcerer or wizard only. No crazy half-demons, tieflings, or anything else that might raise an eyebrow. No huge rush on the complete build...the party may not make it to the next plot element until tomorrow or sunday, so I can work with you to work you in.
Edit: lol, yea, we already have a witch...wuh-oops.
We have a bard, a witch, a cleric, a fighter, and a some-time sorcerer.
The rogue avenue is wide open if you want to go that route, but I'm also not going to force you to choose it.
Sebastian DeGray
I think a double Whu-oops! We have Sweeny who is pure rogue.
I am Senjin, in the CotCT that you applied for. DMCloud's job seems pretty demanding so he does not post too much and almost never on weekends, so don't expect an answer till Monday most likely. He seems committed as a DM, and does a great job setting up the battles, but he is strictly a once a day poster/sometime more in the middle of a fight. But we move along at a slow but steady pace and keep up a banter as the players. We have a good, if sometimes impatient group :-)
Twilightrose
Tom, I have been following your game and I have a human rogue I spent all of yesterday creating just on the off chance that I might get into your game at some point. I'm very interested. I'll post her background momentarily.
(edit) Here is her background, sorry if it's too long! I designed her pretty much to try to fit her in with your current group, and their current mission as they head towards the ships. Bree Longfield
After a fever claimed the lives of their parents, Bree and her twin brother, Brandon, were left to find their own way in the world at the tender age of 10 years old. With no one but each other to depend on, they buried their parents and left their family farm together, headed for the nearest town.
Two years later, in a town called Riddleport, Bree was separated from Brandon when they were caught trying to steal food being brought in from a ship. The captain of the ship forced them aboard, intent to put them to work aboard the ship. Brandon insisted that they jump over board as soon as they had the chance, and swim back to land. Although only a few moments older than her, he was always quite protective of her and said that, a ship full of brutes was no place for a young woman to be.
Scared out of her mind, Bree jumped from the ship. Hitting the water knocked the air from her lungs; she had not imagined it could hurt so much. Barely able to find her way back to the surface, disoriented, she turned in the water to see that men had grabbed a hold of Brandon and were pulling him back from the edge. Others were pointing down at her and cursing, while Brandon yelled over and over for her to swim. So, swim she did.
That was the last time she ever saw Brandon, that night she killed a man for the first time when he stumbled upon her sleeping in an alley way and thought to have his way with her. A week later, she met Copper. Copper was a local street urchin, he said he didn’t really know how old he was anymore, and he couldn’t remember what his real name had been, but he appeared to be in his late teens. He introduced her to several other young, homeless teenagers who were all squatting in a rundown warehouse.
He took her under his wing and taught her how to fight, he taught her how to survive and most importantly, he gave her the thing she needed most… another person to lean on. The only thing he ever asked in return was that she bring in her share to support the group as well.
When Bree was 17 years old, Copper was mortally wounded in a knife fight with a rival group. That night, Bree killed her second man, avenging the death of Copper.
Once again feeling lost, and long since having learned not to trust others too easily, Bree left the group to find her own way in life. Without Copper, she simply did not feel the connection to the others, and in fact, didn’t seem to feel the connection to much of anything anymore.
A few weeks later, while in a tavern, she saw the city guards post a Wanted sign in regards to the capture of man wanted for murder, it promised that a reward would be given upon the verification of the prisoner’s identity. When she stumbled upon the man a couple of days later, over hearing him talk to two other men about the bounty, she decided to follow him.
Silently moving through the streets, a plan all laid out in her mind, she followed him to the docks. Just as she was about to make her move, she felt a strong hand close around her arm. She spun to face the assailant, but instead received a sharp blow to her head and the world went black.
When she came too, she found herself sitting in a chair with her hands and legs tied. The room smelled strongly of salt and rotted wood, the rocking sensation confirmed for her that she was on a ship. Certain that she was going to die on this ship, and uncertain as to whether she even cared, Bree put up no struggle and answered all of the questions the man asked of her. In the end, when it was a job as a bounty hunter he offered her, instead of the sharp end of a knife, Bree could only blink her eyes in shock. He smiled a crooked smile, united her from the chair and introduced himself only as Jefferson.
Three years later, Bree has found herself once again near the docks in Riddleport. Watching men load and unload ships, wondering if any of those men could be Brandon. Wondering if she would recognize him if they were.

Wow. I'm at a loss for words. Never had anyone spend that much work just for a random chance. What can I possibly say except welcome aboard.

Several ideas, actually.
One was continuing with the embittered Ulfen barbarian stranded in Riddleport that was proposed above in my last post. If you feel that it wouldn't be an ideal fit for your group, I had another idea. A half-elf rogue (swashbuckler), a sailor whom frequents Riddleport but is left without ship or crew after an unfortunate incident with a rival. At the time when the incident happened, when he should have been back at the ship he was occupied at one of the city's many brothels. As such he's seeking to attach himself to some other outfit that could use his skills.
I apologize that my submission is nowhere near as grand and elaborate as Twilightrose there (which is pretty impressive), but if either of those two concepts have potential... let me know and I can work with you to make it more customizable to your game.
